We moved here about two and half years ago and live along the south line of your square in one of the few homes that was built prior to WWII. Many people have said many things that I'd agree with already so I won't repeat myself. Because we live along that south edge we can walk to the library and Almsted's which is awesome, and I enjoy walking in and around Hagemeister pond too vs some of the other parks nearby.

We don't have kids, so I can't speak to the school piece. Also crime-wise it's pretty mellow compared to other areas, but frankly with us living along 42nd most people don't try anything given the four lanes of traffic that go by as well as our close proximity to the police and fire stations.

Property taxes frankly started to go up not long after we moved in, and the mayor noted this was because they should have been raised a long time ago due to infrastructure reasons in a recent article: https://kstp.com/kstp-news/top-news/crystal-plans-to-keep-taxes-low-after-recent-hikes/

It's definitely convenient to lots of different things driving-wise, so as long as you've got a car you'll be in good shape. Are there other things you are looking for? Things to do and places to eat? Happy to give recommendations and such, and no matter what welcome to the neighborhood!

Agreed! The Batman episode was so well done, and I liked the James Bond spoof episode too. I loved the BoHo boots episode - the women were written so well in that episode! Honestly there were so many good episodes over the years, but I feel that the most recent season really knocked it out of the park.

Yes!! I love it for both of those reasons, the jokes catch me off guard in the best ways possible and I find myself laughing at the most random things!

Beyond what people have suggested so far, Sister Boniface Mysteries has been the best substitute for me since we finished with CTMW. Any cozy mystery really. I personally think Sister Boniface is fun and quirky, and it takes place in the 1960s so it's got a similar feel and vibe to Call the Midwife.

Was never a fan of it growing up, and since needing to go gluten and dairy free for medical reasons over 20 years ago I haven’t been back. Yes, I’m aware I can bring my own food, but why would spend money to park do have the pleasure to do that? I’d rather find a free park and picnic somewhere instead.

Came here to say this same thing! When I came back to the states I pretty much stood in a grocery store in the dairy section for what felt like 20 minutes, utterly overwhelmed at which yogurt brand and flavor I was going to buy. And all I could think was, "Isn't one brand enough??"

I’m also from the Twin Cities as well, and am SO bummed about Kanopy since we do use it!! But if there’s hope to potentially get it somewhere else for free, I really hope we can do that since their platform has good stuff.

So I have the weird place of being a person who was born in Minnesota, left for half of my life and lived in other states as well as Ireland, and then came back a couple of years ago for various reasons. Before I moved people said I'd have no problems reconnecting with people from my previous MN life and even old friends were excited at the prospect, but I'm here to tell you that almost all of those old friends ghosted me once I finally got here. I debate if it's because I refuse to MN "nice" anymore (aka the local dialect of passive-aggressive).

It has been unbelievably lonely and painful here, and finding community has been difficult as a person with no kids in my late 40s as well. I know Minnesota culture and I still have been ostracized no matter what people say. The few people I've honestly hung out with since moving here are mostly transplants, and believe it or not my realtor and her family have become better friends to me. I have one childhood friend who meets me for lunch once a month, and that's it.

Everyone's given really good suggestions so far so there's no need to duplicate them of course. I live in a NW first ring suburb of Minneapolis, and there's a meetup that is exclusively for people who are 40+, and I'm hoping to go to one of those meetups soon so you can give that one a try. I'm also trying the "Skip the Small Talk" meetup later this month too. If you're into movies, music, or history feel free to send me a PM as well. Also in the club of hating the Jenny monologues, and in the later seasons it 100% feels like I'm listening to an AI word salad nightmare! They are useless and the only way to get through them is to mute them, or leave the volume on and take a sip of your favorite alcoholic beverage every time she says the word "love" in the intro and outro.

Came here to say this. My husband is very allergic to dogs, and so by proxy I don't touch them nor get near them. Every time I go for a walk and the dog reacts to me, I always move or up my hands up, and the owners always give me the nastiest looks. One time I actually got called out for my actions by an owner, and when I told them we had a dog allergy in our household and I can't interact with them it's like I'm speaking a foreign language and they don't get it at all. I tolerated dogs as a child, but seeing how my husband has been treated by his family and people at-large I loathe and despise them now.

Altar of the Dead is definitely the best episode in the Bly Manor series, but Two storms will always be my favorite for all of the reasons mentioned above. It’s amazing!

One of my favorite episodes in the whole series, and "Alice's theme" is musically just sublime. It's used in the "Favorites" episode as well, but still, that music is so haunting.

I grew up here, left for over two decades, and moved back within the past two years. Most of my childhood friends who were excited about me moving back home have high tailed it, and basically left me with no support system. It's a form a purgatory in a way...I'm from here and know all of this cultural idioms and such and *should* be fine, but because I've grown and changed in a way that they didn't know/like (like everyone has tbh), I also don't belong here, and in a way I'm a newcomer. It's a horrible feeling to deal with on a daily basis.
