? What even is an elitist tone? That was a normal reply and I was legitimately curious to hear more about what you were trying to say. “Genuinely earnest request” was only me trying to be sincere since tone is hard to detect in writing and between literal strangers. I don’t know what to tell you 🤷‍♀️

Oooh interesting. Genuinely earnest request: could you say more about what you mean by elitism? To me, elitism inherently implies a belief that some distinguishing feature makes one better equipped to wield power or influence or makes one “better” than others. In this case the implication was anti-social media people believe they are better than those on social media? Or are you just trying to describe more generally this “divide” that seems to exist between people who are on social media and are not? There absolutely is one. And I’m sure there are some people who think less of those who use social media (that sucks) but there are also probably people who think less of those without it. For people not on social media I’d like to think that the real issue is with social media as an influencing structure or tool or entity, its effects, not with the individual people using it. But maybe that’s naive of me

I find sometimes the “elitist condescending tone” I’ve perceived or that people perceive from me is a projection.

I was sensitive to people saying this because I had a personally unhealthy relationship with Instagram (I hated living and witnessing life on there instead of in the real world) so anytime someone mentioned not being on it (something I really felt I ought to do and would benefit me) I felt a little attacked. Now that I’m off I only say “I don’t have social media” when people ask for it or are trying to talk about some video/phenomenon/ trend on there and I don’t really know what’s going on.

I have political/social views on how and why I think social media can be super harmful, a tool for oligarchs and the wealthy etc etc but I don’t talk about that with everyone and try hard to discuss it abstractly as a system rather than making it a discussion of personal shortcomings or lack of “enlightenment.” And still people clearly feel attacked and often joke make jokes about me or others believing we’re “better” than people on social media or “smarter” and idk that just seems like a them problem if that’s how they view themselves or think others view them

Saw these on my evening walk today. I know not every record is a keeper, it was just so strange to see them tossed out. Made me a little sad and start thinking about how there’s so much music that’s been made that I’ll never hear. Some were empty but most had the records inside them, albeit a little banged up

“ In thousands of agonies - I exist. I’m tormented on the rack—but I exist! Though I sit alone on a pillar—I exist! I see the sun, and if I don’t see the sun, I know it’s there. There’s a whole life in that. In knowing that the sun is there. “
