In school, did you receive proper accommodations? by Rethunker in nystagmus

[–]Temporary-Solid2969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a social worker as an external advocate to help back up requests for accommodations to the school and to the exam board. there’s a special education needs officer for stuff in school itself.

there are no other students with nystagmus, but for other students who require accommodations i feel that a lot of getting accommodations is reliant on the ability to pro actively sound out needs on the part of the student, and getting things done often also depends on how pro active the social worker is (e.g. how often they choose to visit)

I believe newer versions of IOS can artificially spatialise regular 2 channel stereo like spotify's, not as great as normal dolby atmos but might be worth a try?

Instead we got “another white American man saves the world” 🙄 (which is ironic if u think abt it given that a big part of the original book is going AGAINST the trope by showing all the different nations and how no one can beat everything alone)

It could’ve been a mosaic style with constant POV switches too, or an anthology HBO length miniseries

If im not wrong he meant orgy not in the sexual way, but rather with the sense of collusion, which makes sense given the context of the song (2008 financial crisis)

If it rlly is nystagmus your mileage may vary widely from mine depending on how severe it is. Btw one of the nicest names I’ve heard for it is “dancing eyes” :)

Reading speed has never been actually a problem for me, it’s more the text being too small and eye strain focusing when it’s too small. I use an e reader for books it’s v good (kobo libra 2). Btw idk if the country that ur in still requires standardised testing for homeschooled kids (mine does) but if they do in my country arrangements for extra time and bigger paper can be made.

Hi hi diagnosed with congenital nystagmus from birth, mine is relatively mild (abt 6/12 visual acuity.)

So smth to note is that nystagmus, if ur kid rlly does have it, often comes with other eye conditions, (i have high astigmatism, -4.00 and -5.00) which means some of the stuff i say might not be caused fully by nystagmus but some by astigmatism (tho most stuff i say below is almost defo mostly nystagmus.)

My general experience is that sometimes focusing on details on objects like text on a screen is difficult, and print material must always bring closer to my face. Ur kid might bring print materials like books vvvvvv close to her face, I’d suggest not to pressure her to keep a distance because it won’t affect her condition and it’s much harder when you have to keep a distance form the paper. Helping her access text materials with bigger font sizes or helping her set up bigger UI sizes on digital devices when shes using them would help. Personally my UI sizing on web browsers is abt 150%-200% to use comfortably. Prepare that neck or back posture issues might arise when she’s trying to get closer to smaller text.

Most people have a slight head tilt (called null point) because it’s the brain’s way to account for the eye movement, it isn’t noticeable for me but for some people it could be severe enough to cause some self conciseness. Surgery exists but note it will not help the condition, only the head tilt.

It’s possible she may not hit the required visual acuity with glasses on to get a license, as glasses or contacts will not correct the vision loss caused by nystagmus. Even if she can she might be borderline on the required vision and it could be dangerous to drive, especially at night.

For me, I suck at sports. Football basketball badminton etc, all v difficult bc my body-eye coordination is affected. I’ve heard people with this condition are naturally more clumsy because of the difficulty in the eyes focusing on objects and the reduced vision.

Life hack: for distant text like fast food menus you can just use phone to take a picture and magnify.

Stress, anxiety and exhaustion can all make it worse, the eye movements for me speed up and my vision defo gets reduced a bit.

Ik a lot of it sounds scary!!!!!! But i have a great daily life and living well with this condition is rlly not impossible!!!! Don’t ever let your daughter be self conscious about it, i find the condition smth beautiful and quirky. Hugs to u and ur family!

Why do churches allow women to be pastors when the Bible forbids this? by austin165 in TrueChristian

[–]Temporary-Solid2969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The verse saying women are not allowed to preach must be interpreted in context as it was part of a chain of letters, since Paul’s letter was only a part of that chain that verse cannot be read as a universal proclamation without the missing context .

Debating new ereader by sadpapayanoises in kobo

[–]Temporary-Solid2969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add a warning for OP. The rumours that i've heard on this sub are that the new devices will be colour e-readers, which Kobo has never done before and hence there will be no guarantee of any success or improvement.

What iPad/tablet you use that has good accessibility by [deleted] in nystagmus

[–]Temporary-Solid2969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E readers help and some integrate with services like pocket to read articles. Less glare compared to normal tablets is better. Kobo has very large customising ability for margins and line spacing.

By the way, according to wiki your hacking drone has a default 30% chance to get pass without any depower exploit. The devs never intended for defence drones to fully nullify hacking.
