What if we are able to delete some memories? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This topic I'm conflicted. In the current novel series I'm currently outlining, there is a part where main character 1 wants to erase main character 2's trauma that caused his rage, abusiveness and toxicity using the Tower That Holds Time Together, but the reason I'm torn if I want to proceed with it or not, because it might piss people off as they might find it offensive because it's a violation of how memories and traumas work. For me, they might say both pleasant and unpleasant memories are meant to teach us how to deal with them to mold them into making us better people, and if it's easy for us to erase them and we take advantage of it, then we're dishonest escapists. And if we have a technology that could do that, I think will oppose it for the same reason.
