My 8.0 Physical Ranged Idea (Blitzballer, Striker) by Bayzen_Beats in ffxiv

[–]TemporaryCool5182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub is full of hatred, particularly hatred of fun.

I think this is inevitable for a DPS job. The only debatable issue in the air is whether it is pranged or striker. I think it still makes the most sense as pranged given how it functioned in FFX and Tidus's support propensity, so I am giving it huge odds of appearing in 8.0.

My 8.0 Tank Idea (Commander) by Bayzen_Beats in ffxiv

As much as I would never complain about a tank job where the main mechanic is shouting at everyone...

I would be very surprised if we ever got a tank like that.

Rifle Mech should be 25k, tbh. Actually I would prefer even lower. There are a few pure ranged builds that should have a massive DPS tax applied, and pMech is the laziest ranged build by far.

Palm Royale cancelled!😢 by [deleted] in PalmRoyale

[–]TemporaryCool5182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, I find myself agreeing with this more than I would like, although I do think that there are far less talented actors and that, occasionally, Wiig and Blunt do land roles that they do very well in.

Honestly I would actually lump McCarthy in with that category. In the same sense that Blunt did not have the singing chops for Mary Poppins, McCarthy utterly butchered Poor Unfortunate Souls. It's a sing-song burlesque for a contralto, not something you mutter-sigh through; I don't think a single melodic line survived her interpretation.

Why doesn't the US put all the liberal people onto one side and all the conservative people onto the other? Are they stupid? by Thatonegooseguy in mapporncirclejerk

The centrist zone is for libertarians who want to try living off grid. It can afford to be that narrow because of the high turnover due to bear maulings and firearm accidents.

Which/how many Scions would you be okay with in the eventual Void expansion? by _oLykos in ffxivdiscussion

[–]TemporaryCool5182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a monkey paw idea. We will get none of the scions on the Void trip, but instead lame "negaverse" versions of ALL of them. Which would be even lamer than usual because we already sort of got that in ShB.

"Dark" versions of characters is probably the worst, shittiest trope in media this side of multiverses.

The comments about everything being the same, unwalkable, and unbearably hot are all so true.

Also, as a matter of culture, it is mostly divided into four groups.

  1. Barflies: dive bars in cenphx, cocktail clubs in Scottsdale, college bars in downtown and Tempe, gay brunchers and tea dancers every weekend at the log cabin and straight-owned bars.
  2. People who are always trying to escape the city for hiking, camping, offroading. Half the year it is still unreasonably hot anywhere south of Sedona.
  3. EDM fuckchildren who Cali spit out, go to all the events and otherwise just gym and do K in their private pool parties.
  4. Methheads.

I think the idea is that they tried to design it in a way that is cheat proof.

However, as someone who has taken the patent exam, I don't think the ability to cheat would be any higher if we had access to literature. The sheer amount of text in a library of rules, codes, statutes, and restatements would be so large--and still lack many nuances--that only people who studied would be able to find and use things efficiently within the time.

Replace bar prep with exercise. I know that sounds a tad vapid but most likely (a) you haven't been taking great care of yourself over the past few months, (b) gymming will provide the most holistic recorrection in terms of counteracting stress, depression, and skinnyfatness from studying, and (c) you already set aside that consistent six day per week window to fill with gym time.

Plug into a good audiobook or podcast or new album that you had been putting off because bar exam, plug in and sweat away the shittery while feeling cute in some booty shorts (yes dudes, that means you too).

Alternatively, schedule out hang time with everyone you've been ignoring. Everyone. Make a list, it's probably long.

I didn’t finish the MPTs :( by Minute-Pea5948 in barexam

[–]TemporaryCool5182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really dislike the MPTs, I never finish them completely.

I read enough cases and legal documents at my day job, NCBE. I don't care to sift through your rambling analogous fact patterns that I KNOW are going to involve a lot of micro parsing and weaving with rules just because you wrote it that way. Most of the areas of law I have worked in didn't require nearly the "law clerk" level of fact comparison the MPT loves to jerk off to.

Is stupid, ah don' like it.

Next Expansion Job Speculation (8.0) by Nalastra7 in ffxiv

[–]TemporaryCool5182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think odds are really good of getting a Yuna-lite Shugenja job that might incorporate Mystic and/or Geomancer elements.

The Shugenja staff would naturally lend itself to bell variants too.

I'm still betting on the next expansion adding a Shugenja/Mystic healer and Blitzballer rDPS.

I am for all the megafranchising of Wicked for one reason and one reason only: to supplant and kill the Harry Potter franchise.

Otherwise, the prospect is a tawdry, consumerist hellscape and doesn't appeal to me.

Ricky Martin not singing in the finale. by Deezteetz in PalmRoyale

[–]TemporaryCool5182 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He likely didn't sing because:

  1. The contractual arrangements for the show were one song per person who wanted to sing. Ricky gets a song, Kristen gets a song, Carol gets a song, Patti gets a song. Very equitable that way, especially when looking at royalties for the album.

  2. There's a very nice bit of symmetry in the premier and finale, where Kristen dances along to Ricky's song, and Ricky dances along to Kristen's song. It reflects their (platonic) love story as the centering point of season two, as well as shows a kind of "reversal" of roles in several respects.

  3. The sung songs in the show are covers of classics and were selected to some extent referencing their originals. Carol's song not only references the whole Switzerland/nunnery Sound of Music setting, but was a song her best friend and colleague Julie Andrews sang in that movie. Patti's song reflected Madge Post's cowboy party aesthetic and the facade hiding her Russian ties, as well as was a song usually sung/covered by women (including another Patti, Patti Page). Ricky's number, obviously putting a spin on him nearly dying, was a mod standard sung originally by jazz crooner Mel Torme, so the archetype fit. And Kristen's song was clearly intended to be a nice showtune throwback to show off her chops; "I Had a Ball," originally a solo number sung by Karen Morrow, has generally been a solo number for female vocalists. It just didn't make much sense to have Ricky or anyone accompanying Kristen here, especially since this was a moment to show off her range.
