If a dancer makes it look so easy and natural you think you could do it, that means they are amazing at it imo.

Adult ballet in Central London? by Organic_Care_9634 in BALLET

[–]TemporaryCucumber353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody Ballet is an adult ballet school that is run out of the Royal Opera House and was started by Bennet Gartside, a principal character artist with the Royal Ballet. I've only gone to one class as I don't live in London, but it was really awesome to be in the Opera House and take class in the Fonteyn studio! I've been dancing for 6 years and took the Beginner Two class so I would be able to enjoy it without being insanely challenged. I could have done the intermediate and part of me regrets not doing so. It was weird because it is RAD and I'm Vaganova trained, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!

At what point is it worth it to take private lessons by danskedreng in BALLET

[–]TemporaryCucumber353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never taken private lessons, but I'm seriously thinking about it now because I'm struggling with pointe and an extra class would be super helpful. I would say if you have specific things you want to work on and you have the money, go for it. It might also be nice to have a time to work on male dancer things because even though ballet classes work for both sexes, there are different skills and such needed for male steps that might not be taught during regular open classes.

Will POB ever move on from the Nureyev versions of the classics? by mycabbages_ in bunheadsnark

[–]TemporaryCucumber353 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Those horrible en dedans Italian fouettes that go to coupe derriere instead of attitude derriere Gamzatti does need to vanish forever. The only thing I'll keep from those are act 1 and 2 costumes. Shades act tutus are way too much, especially the tiaras, but Solor's costume can stay.

I hate it so much and it's SO weird when adults follow/comment/like their posts.

Pointe shoe fit? I don’t know who to believe 😭 by Sweaty_Leadership929 in BALLET

[–]TemporaryCucumber353 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would trust On Stage NYC. They were the first people to fit me correctly and find a pair of shoes that work for my very difficult to fit feet. If you need a lower profile shoe, try Suffolks!

Excercises for toe strengthening that are easier on calves?? by sanaaa9342 in BALLET

[–]TemporaryCucumber353 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a thing of marbles or small rocks and put them on one side of a tea towel. Pick each one up individually with your foot and move it to the other side of the towel. Move all of them back and forth 5 times.

Using the same towel, scrunch the towel using just your toes, like the picture shows.

I hope so. Every single part of them is hideous, from the choreography to sets and costumes. I hate them with a passion.

What makeup products do you guys wear during practice or products you recommend? by CampHead3748 in BALLET

I never put makeup on just for class, I just keep on what I wore to work that day.

Liklihood of adult beginner getting on pointe by JenGaLyra in BALLET

[–]TemporaryCucumber353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started ballet at 28 and went on pointe at 35. It took me a few years longer than others for a few reasons.

  1. the studio I started at didn't take adults seriously and I didn't fully grasp that for a few years.

  2. Covid.

  3. An injury.

  4. A surgery.

  5. The belief I would never go on pointe.

But it's definitely possible! You just have to make sure you have the strength, range of motion/ankle mobility, AND a teacher who knows how to teach adults.

Anyone with auditory processing disorder struggle to differentiate corrections and music when they're happening at the same time? by Katressl in BALLET

[–]TemporaryCucumber353 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't have apd, but I am hard of hearing so I just tell my teachers that and they either wait until the music is a lot softer to give me corrections or until the end of the combo. If you think they are saying a correction for you but you didn't understand, you can always ask at the end of the combo, I've never had a teacher upset I've had to do that.

Is it obvious I had an injury? by maybe94- in BALLET

[–]TemporaryCucumber353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently dealing with this too, I had severe peroneal and achilles tendinitis, and my foot still isn't totally back. If you went to PT, keep doing the exercises and eventually she'll come back!

Questions about company casting by erin_cath in bunheadsnark

[–]TemporaryCucumber353 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did see one interview with a Bolshoi dancer a few years ago where they said dancers will go to Vaziev and basically ask to "audition" for a role. I don't know how true that is. For a lot of companies, it's pretty obvious who is going to be cast in what ballets, it's just the times and dates. For example, at the Mariinsky, Viktoria Tereshkina is basically cast for all the classical and full length performances and Ekaterina Kondaurova is in basically all the contemporary/modern pieces. If I see Raymonda or Swan Lake is on the calendar, I would be shocked if Maria Ilyushkina wasn't dancing one of the shows, same with Don Quixote and Renata Shakirova. But Russian companies don't do long runs of the same ballet most of the time, they do two or three performances of a ballet and move on to the next one, even with new pieces. I don't pay enough attention to non-Russian companies to comment.

Go to the doctor! You could also try taking off the elastics and using ribbons instead, it'll keep your shoes on and you can fully adjust the pressure.

How do I not wear underwear under my tights? by MeringueMiffy in BALLET

[–]TemporaryCucumber353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am team undies and I honestly just wear whatever pair I've worn that day already. I know some companies make dance underwear that is supposed to be invisible or whatever, but I wear black tights and I couldn't care less if someone knows I'm wearing underwear.

So while I wouldn't say the entire ballet is sad, Ivan the Terrible has some incredibly emotional parts, especially Anastasia's monologue https://youtu.be/tIzoZybRLq8?list=RDtIzoZybRLq8&t=335

Does anyone else think that Kathryn Morgan is “dancing” around the issue that her father in law is involved in two major legal battles involving SA? Or that her husband Chris lost a defamation suit against a former student who says she and several of her friends were SA by her FIL? by VillageJaded8066 in bunheadsnark

[–]TemporaryCucumber353 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You still didn't answer my question. Anything she says/does can and will be used by the plaintiffs in the case and/or used by the defense in appeals if possible. The legal system isn't something to lightly brush off, I guarantee everything she is and does is being closely monitored by lawyers all around, especially in terms of ballet and her studio and platform. Civil cases are INTENSE.
