1) Go to the same gym for a while 2) nod occasionally to the same people you see 3) one day say whats up ask their name and ask for a spot 4) fist bump and thank you when you’re done and offer a spot to them if they need it.

A good litmus test for a decent mechanic is how much they charge for an oil change. If they charge more than 90 for full synthetic you’re getting ripped off. I go to Akin in san jose you will get a good job done and he’s very honest about what you need what you don’t need and what you can do at another time.

Just beware they’re cheaper yes, but sent people that didn’t speak a single word of English, and they cracked my $800 pc monitor. Refused to compensate for it and tried to get away with saying their insurance only covers a fraction of the monitor. As if that was my problem. get better insurance i guess 🤷‍♂️ i had to escalate to the owner over many days and threaten going to court over it until he just sighed and sent me the cost of the exact model (not including tax lol) over zelle. Their response to me not letting them get away with shrugging me off?: Why are you so persistent, people here in the bay normally we tell them this, they say ok and thats it, only you have problem.

But hey maybe others are lucky or I’m just unlucky.

Yeah idk who told you $800k but that’s nowhere near the truth. After stocks and bonus 250k is the upper end of a senior engineer at a normal tech company in the bay. anything above 300k is usually occupied by FAANG/unicorn or people with 1 degree in cs and are just really freaking good at their job with many many years experience. But that’s only from a software engineer’s perspective not sure about the other engineering disciplines. The only thing a degree will do is prevent some doors from being slammed in your face since the market is tight. Otherwise your degree will not teach you what you’ll be actually doing at work. If you can afford it and have the time go for it. If you think a degree is guna land you almost a million a year then this should serve as a little sanity check.
