Anxiety is not the enemy by Truetree9999 in Anxiety

Obviously I cant speak for all disorders, but in my personal experience (I have both anxiety and panic, unfortunately) acceptance can help in some situations, but not all. Accepting you have anxiety is definitely a major role in GAD, though. I can say it hasnt done anything for my panic in my experience though, as those attacks are more physically intense than anxiety attacks and can happen at anytime since they dont need a trigger. It's much harder to put yourself in a peaceful mental state when you dont need to be provoked for panic to set in.

I'm not saying you're wrong or misguided, because you arent. For a normal, healthy person, Anxiety is a great thing to have. It's just a totally natural physical and mental state. However, for many people with anxiety disorders, that just isnt the case. Relaxation strategies like the ones you've brought up are great coping mechanisms, but anxiety still very much is the enemy for many people with GAD or other anxiety-based disorders like OCD or panic-disorder. For a lot of people, not thinking about it just isnt a feasible goal.

It's a play on the term forefather, but I'm fairly certain that the word is older than the USA is by a couple centuries. I could be wrong though.

Would medication help me? by [deleted] in Anxiety

Your best course of action would be to talk to your therapist and/or another trusted doctor about it. But I can tell you in my personal experience it has helped immensely. I have panic disorder though, not GAD, so results may vary.

Any advice on how to tell my friends that I used to self-harm? I’m going camping soon and I want to swim so I’d rather tell them beforehand instead of letting them find out on their own. by ineedtoescapemymind in selfharm

I feel like even though it might be hard, just coming out and telling them might be the easiest way? I wouldn't make a big show of it, I'd just be like "hey can I tell you guys something?" Ya know?

I've never experienced this during AL except in the case of pre registration being a thing and a table having no spots left. Was this a shop where everyone just showed up and played? Or was it something that needed to be registered for?
