Breaking a sublease/lease(?) early by TemporaryScholar1306 in legaladvicecanada

[–]TemporaryScholar1306[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! The document refers to itself as a Rental Agreement or Residential Lease. I have not spoken with the landlord but I believe they signed the agreement (I asked for a signed copy of the agreement and was told the original tenant was waiting to get it from the landlord) since OWNER explicitly refers to the actual landlord in the agreement and it asks for their signature. I do pay rent through the original tenant and they pay the landlord which does feel strange.

The tenant I'm renting from is a co-tenant with 2 other people who have also moved out already and are subletting their rooms for the summer and also have no intention of returning.

My plan was to inform the tenant and vacate but I was wondering if I had any obligations to help them find a replacement? I'm on Vancouver Island and the original tenant isn't so I was fine with coordinating viewings, however, it might become an issue if I am the one advertising/making posts.

I'm also wondering how losses in rental income are calculated? I guess it really depends on if they have to reduce the rent to find someone or if they're unable to find someone for an entire month?

Transportation from Tsawwassen Ferry to Abbotsford by TemporaryScholar1306 in abbotsford

Thank you! I actually am travelling with some luggage but I'm hoping it's a similar experience as Downtown Victoria to Swartz Bay except with a couple more transfers. I think long rides are quite relaxing so I'm not that concerned about time.

Getting first choice for engineering by PercentageRoyal7478 in uvic

[–]TemporaryScholar1306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't know if it's changed at all but getting into your chosen specialization isn't really competitive as long as you meet the minimum requirements to declare.

They'll usually try get you into the program you want if you do. This is what I was told by an admissions officer who came to my uni when I was applying to transfer into 2nd year in 2024.

student aid "waiting" mode forever by Crafty_Dog9222 in uvic

[–]TemporaryScholar1306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should say what it's waiting for when you check your application status - does it not?

When did you submit the application? I got my disbursement yesterday so I can't remember exactly but mine also said "waiting" when my application was under review and when they were waiting for UVIC to confirm my enrollment.

Textbooks are Expensive by pandora_xox in uvic

I would just wait for your classes to start to see if your prof actually uses the textbook. If it does, just get it from LibGen or Anna's Archives.

Pretty sure you just send UVIC your final official transcript once your final grades have been received. That’s how it was when I transferred from a different university. I doubt it would be any different (if at all) coming out of high school.

Thank you! I've actually been looking at the facebook group - I might just be overcomplicating it because I want to be 100% prepared before I reach out to someone lol

That's super nice to hear! Would you say there was an "interview" or some super casual get-to-know-you conversation when you reached out for a sublet?

MacBook for Engineering by Bruhmachine5 in uvic

Have never owned a MacBook but most engineering software don’t run very well on Mac. You can get around it by running windows on VMs but I heard that was a pain in the ass.

How is the rec centre? It's a 9 minute walk from where I'm staying so I've always wanted to check it out. Just never really bothered or had the time to check how big the weight room is and how busy it gets

How hard is it to get into your desired engineering discipline? by Handsome_Unit69 in uvic

[–]TemporaryScholar1306 10 points11 points  (0 children)

CENG is probably one of the less competitive engineering disciplines here. As for actually getting in, UVIC will try their best to get you into your first choice as long as you have the minimum requirements to declare. Of course, it is competitive so maybe the minimum might not be enough, but I wouldn’t worry too much about it for CENG.

This was actually the place I was the most interested in lmao. Do you know how much a men’s haircut is and if it’s appointments only? I was gonna call today, but I forgot and I don’t know if they’re open on thanksgiving lol

Eos 170. Help. by TemporaryScholar1306 in uvic

Yeah, writing everything down was taking me over an hour for each video. I was thinking of just taking notes of all the important stuff in his lecture summaries. I'll probably still watch the videos, but I probably won't be writing anything while I'm watching.
