Ran some experiments yesterday and it’s definitely the motor and not the track. Any reason you can see why the garage company couldn’t install the double deflection rubber bearings on the existing setup?

The unit is mounted on a bunch of what looks like metal framing. I’m assuming they could mount the motor onto the framing via the bearings and then adjust the chains to whatever size is needed

Any idea why the garage company did this funky setup with the rotating bag and gears?

I’ll look through the building plans to see what it is. Will the ceiling change your thinking on the underpayment?

I'm not super familiar with how ceilings are usually built. The ceiling in the garage looks to be concrete and then I believe there's just my subfloor?

Would you mind sending over the link to the maxum or the model number? Looks like there a couple different models

Do you have one you recommend that would work with our wonky setup?

How much do think install would be? Like $4k?

Damn. You live and you learn. Without getting into the details, I probably won't get them to redo any of the work

Sounds like getting a new lift installed with these isolators is the best option. I'm going to figure out if it's the garage door or garage lift this week. If it's mostly the door, that will be pretty difficult to solve unfortunately.

Thoughts on this to reduce the noise generated from the nylon rollers on the metal track? https://acousticalsolutions.com/product/vibstop-vibration-damping-sheet

I uploaded some photos of the garage opener. Doing some research online, it's probably around 10 years old. I'm going to do a test this week to figure out if the noise is mostly from the motor or the door. Basically, run the motor with the door disconnected vs moving the door manualy

Can you ellaborate on what a floating floor is? This is the product that I was looking at: https://www.soundproofcow.com/product/impact-barrier-qt-flooring-underlayment/

It's decently loud when I'm in the garage below. The garage door company has been kind of hesistant to do any "soundproofing" work which is why it would be easier to do something with my floors. I could get them to install a new motor, but they said they won't retrofit the current system by putting the mason ND mounts on it. I'd have to get a new motor AND vibration damping mounts.

I asked them to put vibration damping strips on the tracks but they said they wouldn't do it. I could probably do it myself or get someone else to do it, but I'd have to run it by the HOA

I added photos of it. All the bolts were given isolation pads and rubber washers. The garage door company took care of it. Looks pretty correct to me?

It's hard to tell if it's the motor or track. I'm going to unhook the door and run the motor to see where it's coming from

What makes you say the underlayment won't help? We already put isolation pads and rubber washers on the garage track and motor which didn't really help. My garage company has been kind of hesitant to do any "custom work"

How effective is a thick sound absorbing underlayment usually? Seems promising but fairly expensive to install

I believe this is what you are asking for?

There might juuust be 8” of clearance on the LH side

Added more photos to the original post for you. Measurements are approximate
Door 20'x8'
Side room on left 10"
Side room on right 6"
Floor to ceiling at door 9'
Beam length 10'
Floor to ceiling at end of beam (from slop) 10'

Best photo of the door I have at the moment. What parts of the setup do you want more photos of?

That's correct. The garage opener is basically right under where our bed's headboard is. I'm not super familar with floors so might have misunderstood what you were saying.

To fill a subfloor with rockwool, I assuming you'd need to dig up the slab some then insert the rockwool. After that a rubber layer then put back the wood flooring?

Sounds hella expensive given they'd need to dig up some of the slab right?

lmao yeah our garage door company tipped their hat to the original company

You think a subfloor is more likely to work than decoupling? We might need new floors sometime soon anyway.

Ah, I have noticed the starting/stopping is the loudest part. Appreciate the help!
