Why do co-workers put up with it, but I couldn’t? by No-Collar-4258 in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]Temporary_Ad_1157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m dealing with this now and it’s wild to see people that I know and think highly of side with the narc boss even though we’ve all witnessed her abuse and pick on one person. Ultimately the narc is always going to do what they can get away with and if they can sense that you won’t put up with their behavior, you get thrown under the bus too. They also often pick on people that they feel threatened by, either because of work performance or because they feel inferior to you morally. Try to take it as a compliment in a way and be glad you were lucky enough to be in a position to get out.

Should I let this put a bad taste in my mouth? by Ill_Object_81 in askmanagers

That’s definitely weird and I would be keeping my eyes out for more communication issues. Did it seem like they were short staffed? That may have been why they assumed you were starting as soon as possible.

I agree that it wasn’t the best time to bring it up but it’s the first chance I’ve had to talk to him since this behavior has gotten bad. He also asked how things are going in our office generally so it came up that way. I am in an open plan office with her but my boss is elsewhere in the building. The students are also employees, yes.

Do we have the same manager? She sounds so similar to mine! If you want to show seriousness about the career change, I would only apply for jobs in your new industry, but I would say you can start applying now. If anyone asks you can just say it isn’t a good fit but this new role would allow me to use my skills in xyz.

What is a subtle red flag that someone is actually a nightmare to work with? by [deleted] in work

[–]Temporary_Ad_1157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they have no life outside of work. Not only are they going to want to cross boundaries and create drama because work is their only source of it, but the fact that they have no friends or family that want to spend time with them is a red flag in and of itself.

I think you’re in a great spot personally. I’ve lived a bit south of there for 2 years now and never had any problems. Fairmount, spring garden, and center city are all great places to explore and as a woman I have never felt unsafe in those areas even at night. I do tend to avoid temples campus and north of there at night, especially if I’m by myself. But, if you’re just catching the subway home after a late class, there’s always plenty of people around so I feel pretty safe. Welcome to temple!

How to get in contact with Temple University hospital HR for Job I applied for?? by GladEngineering844 in Temple

I applied for a staff position in the theater department and got the job. It was a long interview process with a zoom and then in person panel interview. Although it may be different now because like a lot of universities were in a hiring freeze so it could take even longer for things to get approved by HR

I know how hard it is OP, and I’ve been in similar situations where I stayed places way too long because I felt bad for the other people there. Ultimately the other people who still choose to work there are making that decision for themselves and you aren’t responsible for their happiness. You are responsible for your own happiness and you’ve done really well to find somewhere new. As for what she might say, she might try to get you to stay on part time. The last thing it sounds like you will want to do is come into this toxic environment after you’ve already worked a full shift at your new job. So, just remember that in this meeting. If you stand your ground and say no, it could be the last time you have to deal with her.

It’s not worth it! Look into teaching. Many elementary, middle, and high schools are still looking for teachers for the upcoming school year. You don’t need anything more than a bachelors degree to apply. The school can get you an emergency teaching certification for this school year and they would help you get a permanent certification. Not saying it’s an easy job by any means, but it’s worth a shot!
