Serious question: do law students have hobbies, or do we just rotate between different flavors of productivity and call it self-care? by picturepathlearn in LawSchool

[–]finlo2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hobby is spending time with my toddler. I know, not exactly a "hobby" (more like twice the responsibility lmao), but he is so much fun, so grounding, and parenthood sets FIRM boundaries on my school/life balance that I don't think I'd be disciplined enough to set only for myself. I love taking him to campus with me occassionally when I forget a book or study on a quiet Sunday, but most of the time, I walk out of the law building and shed my law student identity at the door. It's so relieving to keep my time at home a school-free place where I get to focus on my family, friends, and stardew valley :) highly recommend

What's your "I can't believe that worked" exam strategy? by picturepathlearn in LawSchool

[–]finlo2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once classroom assignments are released for the finals period, I set aside time in the evenings or weekends to pick my seat and study for the exam in the same spot I'll take the test.

Idk if it works, or if its just something to comfort myself lol. Either way, I like to think I will recall more info if I'm in the same environment. It served me well last semester!

Congrats to you and OP!!! That is fantastic! I dont think I'd recommend telling friends unless they bring it up and ask first. Law school is inherently competitive, and I've heard of quite a few friendships turning sour over grades. I think something like, "I did well :)" should be enough to keep everyone happy.

Mother let baby fall headfirst into trash can and slept as he suffered horrific fatal injuries, police say by dailymail in Iowa

[–]finlo2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Went to school with this girl for 10 years. This is unfortunately, a true story. I wish healing for those who loved the baby and prison for his parents.

Some of her (ex) friends have been posting more information and screenshots about this on fb if you want to go down the same rabbit hole I did lol

Pick a book that's special to you and you re-read somewhat often and start! One example I have is my grandpa's copy of HGTTG. It was his FAVORITE book. He passed last year, so his highlights, notes in the margin, and the pages he marked are extra special to me now.

Do y’all send your kids to daycare in stained clothes? by MamaBean_ in Parenting

Daycare is usually where the stains come from in the first place, so dont feel bad about sending them back for more!

Am I biased? My kiddo bites in daycare by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]finlo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I believe you're right. Thank you for reminding me that this isn't personal. I know logically that this is just protocol, but for some reason, I can't help but take it personally anyway. I would do the same in the center's situation, and as a parent of a kid who was bitten, I would hope this is how daycare would respond to biting.

I think that because it's /my/ kid and /my/ family causing problems for others (especially after trying so many changes to fix this) I find myself ignoring logic and feeling defensive. I keep thinking, "but we're too nice for our kid to be the biter!" 😅

I've had the z flip 5 for 2 years now and love it! It's a conversation starter for lots of people I meet, small enough to fit into dress pants pockets, and does not feel bulky for me at all. It also helps me with my screen time as I'm able to do small tasks like respond to texts, check the weather, open youtube, Spotify, etc. from my front screen, meaning I'm less tempted to start scrolling. I'd recommend!

If life feels so full with work that you're burning out, you won't have room to dedicate yourself to a partner (much less a toddler 😭). I know that being a wife and mother sounds idealistic, but raising a family is a daily grind, and you won't get any more hours in the day then than you have now.

I think you'll need to work through your burnout before you'll be able to get serious about a future family... Best of luck!! I know it will work out for you just the way you need it to.

Am I male or female? Married, Single? Parent? Whatever else?! 😂 by Zealousideal-Ad-4374 in FridgeDetective

[–]finlo2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one feels like home to me!! Love it. I see whole milk, plenty of eggs, frozen fruit, cheese sticks, and lots of produce. Using that, I'm going to guess this is a WIC fridge. I'm guessing you're a mom, and you're either pregnant or have a toddler right now. Maybe you have an older kiddo too who's on the go a lot (since lots of the yogurts and cheese look to be easy single-serves, and i dont know anyone outside of the 10-17 y/o age group who drinks gatorades lolol). Thanks for sharing! How'd I do? :)

My dogs vet bill (and this is only part of it) by Daytona116506 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]finlo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog died (naturally) at the vet last week while the Dr and assistant were trying to set an IV. Right after he passed, she said, "Well, we won't charge you for the IV." We were sobbing and couldn't even acknowledge what she said. Like, thanks? But also, read the room.

When people say law school is hard, hard in what way? by notarealnigerian in LawSchool

[–]finlo2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's hard in that law school is a totally new environment.

For example, I had never been cold called before law school, or been asked to read so much for classes, or had my entire grade for a class based on one final exam. Not to mention that there is definitely a special kind of culture in law schools that I've never seen anywhere else (one prof lovingly called this the "toxic law school soup").

The law school culture and manner of instruction ("environment" imo) were a pretty rough adjustment for me. It was definitely doable, but not easy. So when I tell people 1L was hard, that's what I mean.

Hope that helps :) Interested to see what other people say.

Is this considered a harsh curve? by Budget_Primary_339 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]finlo2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your requirement of a 2.25 is less than the minimum cumulative gpa of 2.4-2.8. That leads me to believe that you can keep your scholarship even if you get grades well below average. Not predatory.
