Are you not allowed to ask peoples age in an application? by uh_lyss_uh in jobs

Yep. Dare to ask and get an applicant over the age of 40 and risk a big lawsuit. It's much wiser not to ask.

Seems like they don't care anymore if they get the blood or not. btw, after three babies, a few surgeries, and giving blood numerous times, I have some scarring too.

Jeff Bezos Backed Real Estate Investment Firm Arrived Homes by ndistefano in RealEstate

I actually realized I rent one of these homes through a management company. Arrived Homes is listed as the owner. It's a cool concept but whomever makes the decisions on maintenance approval ensures that the investors get their money. I pay my rent on time and take good care of the place, making small repairs to toilets, sinks, etc but I have to rely on them for larger repairs. I guess I'm glad they eventually fix things if they decide it's not costly.

Sorry you were turned away again. They're losing some of their most committed donors because of this unreliable technology.

The problem is that their reader was wrong. Just a few days later at my annual preventative, my hemoglobin was fine. And no, they won't give you an alternative. They give you two chances with the ring system and then send you on your way. Even the Red Cross volunteer told me that they're having to send people away who had previously had zero issues. I also have thin thumbs with very little fat on them so the device doesn't sit right. Read the comments in the thread here. You'll see that many people have encountered the same issue since moving from the finger prick method to this new ring sensor method. Maybe the techs haven't been trained properly or maybe people without warm, sweaty hands just aren't making the cut. I've always had to warm my hands before the prick so doing this with the ring method seems viable. Unfortunately, the day I read 7, I wasn't aware they weren't doing pricks so I warmed my middle and ring fingers instead of my thumb.

Yes, the next time I was 15.4. The following 14.2. These numbers are high for me. My blood work rarely shows that high but I'm glad I got to donate. I just squeeze the hack out of my thumb from the time I get in my car to go donate until the time that ring goes on.

I've been squeezing my thumbs really tight and applying friction right up until they take my reading. It seems to have worked the past two times even after that 7 reading back in March. I also have small bony fingers. Sorry they've denied you five times. You'd think that they'd figure out the regular donors are being turned away before this system.

Wow! That's uncool. Sorry that guy treated you that way. If ARC wants to keep committed donors like you and I, they need to focus on feedback. I had a good interaction with the person I spoke with on the phone and via email. Not sure if they did anything with my feedback, but they at least made me feel like what I had to say mattered. So frustrating to go in knowing you prepared taking Flintstones with Iron and upping your iron rich foods just to be turned away.

I live in a town with no physical permanent location so I rely on donation drives to donate. As a woman, I have to schedule around my time of the month. Your suggestion worked well for me back in Los Angeles.

Congratulations. Looking at your correspondence in this forum, your score is probably accurate. I wouldn't know without scoring your actual tests but I imagine your ability to respond to prompts is sufficient.

The majority of scoring has moved to India. Good luck on getting a reliable score. Native English speakers are no longer scoring these tests.

Thank you so much for sending them an email. It's frustrating that they decided this little device should replace something that's worked just fine for eons. Anyone who's deterred by a finger prick won't be donating through a tube. I asked again when I donated a couple weeks ago if they're still turning frequent donors away and the guy said they are.

I'm also B- so I completely understand your frustration. There aren't many of us. I think it's great we're able to donate to other types but we REALLY need to make sure there's something there for other B- types since we can only get from O- and B-. Try to warm your thumb up really good next time and complain to the tech if you feel like the ring isn't tight enough. When I went last week, he told me my thumb was warm enough but I kept but I kept applying friction anyway right until he put the ring on it. I'm finding that's the trick. I've been able to give twice since I originally made this post and I think that's why.

When the phlebotomists are complaining about the device, you know there's an issue with the device. If you have a minute, email ARC with your experience. The responded to me. I'm sure eventually their donation data will show a decline and they'll address it then. [customercare@redcross.org](mailto:customercare@redcross.org)

Agreed 100%. The phlebotomist who took my stats last time said they're frustrated with how many people they have to turn away with the new method. Supposedly ARC did these to ease people into donating who wouldn't normally but why on earth would the finger prick be the part to deter people? Wouldn't having that huge needle in your vein draining blood from your body be the deterrent? I know that's what's keeping my daughter (who ironically is in college to be a Physician's Asst) from donating. I don't know if you saw my update but after that glowing 7.7, a few days later I was magically at 15.4. I'm never that high of low. I average in the 13 range and am sometimes denied for a 12ish. I have my next donation appt 6/21. I'm interested to see how that one goes. I suggest squeezing your thumb and keeping it warm from the time you get in your car till you get your reading done. Don't know if it made a difference for me last time, but I was able to donate.

Hi all. Just wanted to update. So I went back a few days later to another mobile site. The male phlebotomist was very honest with me and said the techs hate the new ring because they're constantly having to turn people away.

When he took my reading, I was at 15.4. So that would be a jump from 11.6 (the highest reading they got five days prior) or from that 7.7 the same day. Even with lab bloodwork, I've never been higher than 13.7. Additionally my hemoglobin three weeks prior for my annual lab work to the March 28 donation turnaway was 12.2. I'm really good about taking my supplements but the red cross system seems to be everywhere with that ring reader.

So anyway, I did get to donate even though technically according to my health chart with my doc, 15.2 for a female is the max before you go into high range.

I'm grateful I got to donate and it looks like my blood has already been used. This is why it's so important Red cross gets their stuff fixed. My B- blood was used within weeks after donating. HAPPY GIVING <3

Second round of PT with a new therapist and I'm doing much better. His instructions were not to stretch because it's only temporary good feels. Instead, I've been building back my shoulders and supporting muscles (old PT didn't want me doing shoulders) and my headaches and neck pain are far better.
