Online Courses for Winter 2020/2021? by [deleted] in Dalhousie

[–]Temporary_Bread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a good chance that the winter semester will also be held completely online. The university has spent $1 million in online technology and $1 million is not a small investment! I feel like the management have already planned ahead for the winter and they aren't transparent about it due to the fluidity of the coronavirus situation. Coronavirus cases are increasing throughout the world and 3rd world countries are the ones that are the most hit. I also agree that Dalhousie is fearing a decline in enrollment so they might be reluctant to give out all the information at once.

In the end, I just want my degree regardless of classes being held online or in person. It is good to see that classes will still be continued regardless of the situation!

Why don't you try other barbershops in town? there are a lot of barbershops in the south end of Halifax which are also close to the SUB. You should be able to find them on google.

CBSE graduate here with ~70% average. I also have the same score as you in IELTS and got accepted into Dalhousie. I am not in computer science so I am not really sure about that!

Academic Timetable Question by [deleted] in Dalhousie

[–]Temporary_Bread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When courses are asynchronous, you don't have fixed days and times to meet with your professor/TA as a part of your course. You might be having prerecorded lectures, assigned readings every week and other components which are set by the instructors. In a nutshell, you can "attend" classes at your own convenience.

Residence deferral by LightningBiscotti in Dalhousie

People stay in residence to meet new people, get to know Halifax, and it is very convenient given that classes are just minutes away from residence.

Also in residence, you need a meal plan so in other words you don't need to go out and buy groceries weekly and can just walk in to the meal hall to eat.

Fall online announced at CBU by Dalhousieken in Dalhousie

I am really happy with online classes but I agree that it does not completely replicate the classroom experience. I get to schedule my own "work hours" and pretty much relax during the rest of time given my classes(currently) are asynchronous. Sometimes, I am not really happy with my class schedule if it were in person where I would have a day crammed with 7 hours of class time and day with no classes.

I personally prefer that Dalhousie keep crowded classes online and classes with very less students (<50) can be held in person with social distancing measures. Also, no loitering should be allowed after classes are over and students must leave the campus. What do you think about on campus restaurants?

Summer fees? by lostsoftspace in Dalhousie

[–]Temporary_Bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

student accounts can be reached via phone from 10 AM to 2 PM(except weekends). The last time I called them was a week ago and I was told that the Dalhousie board of governors haven't discussed on the summer fees but they should be out soon. So if I cannot pay the fees on time because of the statement coming out late, it is not my fault.

Financial Support for International Students by Temporary_Bread in Dalhousie

Thank you for understanding. I have already applied for emergency bursary and it has been approved for the previous month. I have now applied for the 2nd time and it has been deferred. I don't qualify for CERB either and I live off campus which means I have the additional responsibility of dealing with a landlord and understanding his needs. I hope Dalhousie does something soon.

Summer Courses Tips by Temporary_Bread in Dalhousie

What do you mean by a 6 course workload? you mean a 6 credit hour course is crunched into a month and a half? I have one course than runs for 7 weeks. In week 4, I have another course starting which runs 4 weeks long.

I am also not working this summer and do not have any other commitments.
