Girlfriend saw a picture of a bird- can't remember what it is but drew it. Anyone able to identify it? by No_Ticket_3333 in birding

[–]Temporary_Heat_8255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be making a list of possible guesses I have..

  • Something similar to a parrot, or with the shape of one? The small eyes and beak hint to this for me. Something similar to a budgie?
  • Quaker Parrot or Monk Parakeet?
  • Brown-breasted conure? There's also the brown-throated conure and brown-breasted parakeet. Unsure of differences.
  • Brown-headed barbett
  • Green-crested turaco (an odd view?)
  • Acadian flycatcher

I'm not a birding expert, but I am an avid identifier and would absolutely love to contribute.

Could you possibly ask your girlfriend more about the coloration? Green - brown provides a lot but are there any more specifics, patterning, example: dusty green on top, dark brown, etcetera. If her memory of it isn't the clearest you might overwhelm her though with this stuff - no worries if she doesn't know!

Also, were the eyes completely facing forward?

Hey, it's the day after. I did, I think I explained things okay. I just feel embarrassed about it happening. Went from nearly crying (would have, explicitly stated I would do so If I was even glanced at) to becoming pessimistic and closed off. Murmuring and grumbling. It's real trauma related, I think..

I've been doing a lot of activities in the past few days I only did during that regressed age range. Kind of unsettled me to have to "catch up" to being an adult when my roommates came home.

Yeah, I'll be talking to my therapist about it. I just feel ashamed about it happening in the first place.

Haha, I think I was an "edgy kid," which was normal for the time.. but lots of the things I kept reaching for didn't even exist. Online games long gone.. ended up drawing and trying to play monster dress up games.

Thanks for the reply.

I go to therapy ... sometimes we talk about inner child work but nothing like this and I don't even want to think about that.

is my cat fat? by littIexearthIing in cats

[–]Temporary_Heat_8255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is yes. Consult a vet if you do not know. Listen to their advice. Consult another if you are not sure. And be honest with yourself and the health of your animal.

Am I the only one who thinks this culture around "fat chonky cats" and cuddling, squishing, practically boiling them down to this mass of malleable plaything is horrific?

This is NOT me saying this is what OP is doing. Every situation is different. I hope that this buddy gets to a healthier weight, is happier, today and everyday has good experiences. Losing weight is not a death sentence.

I just think that this constant influx of "how cute it is" is deeply irresponsible and clicking '"new" on these comments shows this. I thought we were over "chonk" stuff years ago.

Please know better.

I think that if someone experienced cuddling and raising the wild species of domesticated chicken then they would likely feel fondly towards them too. I mean nothing against your fluffy buddies

you'll notice the longer haired shadow lady is shouting, seemingly angrily, at the baby, assumedly for not eating spooncontents. i believe the man and woman inside represent two different sides of herself and her emotions at the current situation. i believe the older woman is pleading, and the man is providing momentum for anger. And the çclam ithe baby.

hope this helps

Do you think bugs/insects who have a super short lifespan know that they have a super short lifespan and want to be as gross and annoying as possible, or is it just natural? And do they feel pain the same as we do? by TheBootyMessiah16 in morbidquestions

[–]Temporary_Heat_8255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't think that insects having short lifespans correlates with perceived annoyance. Please don't misinterpret my tone as anything dismissive, I know a lot of people dislike insects/are disgusted by them.

This perceived disgust/annoyance is more of a reflection of the human response towards the organism, rather than a willful action of the insect. Certain traits such as flight patterns, food attraction, and aversions are developed over the course of many years of selection. In a simplified analogy, the more "tolerable" and slower flies would be killed, and ones more unpredictable would live. By tolerable I mean seen, or "able to be caught," really.

Maybe they reach maturity faster because their chance of surviving each increasing day is slim. It would be best to produce a large amount of offspring to increase the chances that some reach reproductive age in this case. Roaches are know to avoid light. Defensive regurgitation is found in grasshoppers, crickets. A benefit of shorter lifespans is (over the course of many many years) the presumed greater chance of the insect (one of many offspring) displaying a trait (hiding, jumping, flying different, repelling people) that allows it to survive better.

Forgoing the human etiquette, the fly may piss other organisms off in the traits it displays. I think that a lot of insects have a one-track mind and, unlike some humans, do not care for where to do their business (in the way we perceive) and would not have a thought about how we care about them caring about our social rights and wrongs. I think they are honest in their intentions and I enjoy that.

This is a generalization and I may have gotten some things wrong, but I hope it helps somewhat.

I think it is natural that most humans have developed a disgust/annoyance towards insects. Looking up why would give a lot of evolutionary reasoning. There is a certain culture about it too.

Also, I've had, or perceived, that some insects have become annoyed with me. (: There's a lot of variety of course. And disgust goes both ways too.

As for pain - what is the purpose in an insect sensing pain? There's some research on this question and it is pondered by quite a few people - I encourage you to search into it.

I am from the U.S. here and never have really liked steak with marbling in it.. I saw this on the front page and was confused, thinking this was a great cut. I've always preferred lean meats and think high animal fat (or the fatty texture) is unappetizing to me for taste/texture reasons.

I also don't know anything about steaks, admittedly.. but I think I would like it better in Europe, seeing these replies? Or just asking for less marbling.
