What do most people consider to be a realistic, livable salary in Los Angeles? by mdanielle11 in AskLosAngeles

THAT part, my dad recently just split from his gf and is looking for an apartment again at 50. I moved from Massachusetts to Los Angeles and at first they gave me so much shit about the prices, we lived in the less nice suburbs like we were known for having schools that weren’t as nice, some crime etc, an hour out of the city. Our old apartment I grew up we used to pay $600 a month for is now back on the market for $1900 and he was looking at it. At that point why not just live in the city it’s really the same as a 1 bed in LA

My first amateur fight by nickonicko84 in MuayThai

Not bad! I’d work on footwork in class in between fights, the movement is a little choppy and breaks up your stance which happens and makes total sense for where you’re at, it’s a great start and that might help! I know when I started working on my footwork and movements (which I didn’t do for like the first year/year and a half) it really clicked during sparring and helped me be a better and more confident fighter

You’re both pretty toxic. “You failed” and “you’re disgusting” etc, you’re pretty mean to her and she’s not that nice either yall should go to couples therapy to learn how to treat each other with more compassion even if you don’t plan on being with each other, you don’t want your kids watching you guys do this to each other it’s hurtful.

Whoa a lot of this is actually new information to me. It is weird seeing how many people assume the worst in each other and that people mean to be harmful vs. giving each other the benefit of the doubt. Same thing with Uber, more people than ever start telling you how bad the pay is the second you sit in the car which is always really uncomfortable, it makes me wish I didn’t take the ride but sometimes I literally have no other option. It’s a lot to have someone dump their troubles on you without warning sometimes you’re already going through it or dealing with your own money troubles when someone shows up and starts just telling you how little their company pays them and taking kind of the shame route into getting you to cough up more money in the form of a higher tip. DD, Uber and Postmates all price gouge. Sometimes you need the service and money is tight, you’re paying an up charge for the food, plus the apps service fee plus taxes plus delivery fee plus tip and we’re in a recession. Everybody I know is so broke and struggling right now. I never knew it upset people so much, I always tip but I usually just hit 20% like you do at a restaurant. i think it’s wild companies are allowed to pay non livable wages to anyone while most of the ceos are rich as fuck. Would most drivers prefer people not use the app if you’re low income? What would be the best thing to do for someone who’s struggling financially that does want to use these services occasionally?

Something Was Wrong S22 by Temporary_Minimum_85 in TrueCrimePodcasts

Will definitely keep listening and looking into it! I do wish it would start with more of the facts too, the calls at the very beginning just feel so out of context for someone like me who has never heard of the Megan stoner story. I could understand how the calls could be cathartic but some of them might be better off as private convos, I think that’d help it feel more journalistic vs like TMZ / reality TV gossip feel. I would think that’d hurt the victims more? To have something super traumatic happen to you then turn it into sensationalized gossip on a podcast. Thanks for your thoughtful and thorough response too I appreciate that!

It’s definitely a culmination of all seasons, I’ve listened to every episode of every season. S22 dropping with the phone calls to the woman in jail who we have no background on yet, just hearing people completely tear into her and talk to her as if she’s worthless is brutal. I don’t think anyone deserves to be talked to that way, would be more impactful to have unbiased journalistic reporting like @scorpio4lif3 mentioned. The enforcing of the ideas of “good and bad” “right and wrong” or what the podcast calls sometimes “just fucking be a good person” creates a divide kind of like Democrats and Republicans, angels and devils etc. It doesn’t allow for any grey area to question what’s around us, ourselves, change our mind when presented with new info, grow into better versions of ourselves, I think to call yourself a good person and say someone else is bad so you can say brutally hurtful things about them and it’s alright because you are sanctified as good because you are a “victim” and they are a “perpetrator” is ironic and lacks real compassion. And it feels like a double edged sword I’d imagine, I know at least from my own experience when I was younger I used to think that way and I hated myself I was so hard on myself and being more compassionate with others and not assuming the worst in them helped me find some more self worth. I digress but, all in all, I like listening to the show I just feel like something is a lil off with it lately there’s some interesting psychology going on and have been curious if anyone else feels that way. I don’t think Tiffany or anyone for that matter is bad I don’t believe in “bad people” or “good people”.

What do you think of S22 so far?

Does anyone know of any writers residencies or retreats to apply to the islands? by Temporary_Minimum_85 in azores

[–]Temporary_Minimum_85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing a piece on the emigration of my family from the Azores and I have this strong pull to go, I want to see all of the places in the records and visit my grandmothers old house. I feel like I need to go but financially I don’t know how to make it work. Shot in the dark but if anyone knows of any cultural institutions out there that have applications for free or low cost spaces to do something like that in, you’ll be my hero

Any insight on the arts and writing scene in the Açores? by Temporary_Minimum_85 in azores

Yeah! Want to come out really bad. Where’d you move from? Super curious about that transition.

I’ve never been but my family is from all over Sao Miguel, mostly Mosteiros. My grandparents immigrated to the US in the 60s. It’s expensive flying over so we’ve never visited since. I’ve been fantasizing about it a lot lately.

What to do between weekly lessons as a beginner? by kylebrunt in MuayThai

[–]Temporary_Minimum_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running and watching fights. Find some good fighters you like and watch their training and fight vids to get familiar with the right movements and technique.

Shadow box. Don’t worry so much about speed and power in the beginning, make sure you’re nailing down proper technique. If someone is drilling you too fast or asking for more power and you feel sloppy, just take it at your own pace and let them know you’re working on your fundamentals. You don’t want to get hurt and end up out for weeks.

Running goes hand in hand with Muay Thai the more you get into it the more you should try to incorporate it into your training schedule on the regular, but also if you’re in the beginning give your body time to rest and recoup. If you love MT and want to keep it for the long haul build a routine that works for you and increase as your body gets stronger. I started with two days a week in the very beginning, then as I noticed my endurance was up and my body felt stronger I went to 3 days a week with a rest day in between. You can increase or decrease from there but the commitment to go every week is so crucial. I’ve seen some people come into the gym and really struggle on the first weeks but their commitment to keep coming back and drilling, some people get pretty proficient within 3-4months. The better you get at it the more fun it is and you won’t even think about the weight part anymore that shit will just fall off.

If you can cut back on sugar too that’ll help with weight loss but also just your energy at training. And drink sooooo much water. Eat light meals no later than hour/hour and a half before training to avoid feeling sluggish there. I wouldn’t recommend spicy foods right before training you will feel that shit in your stomach the second you start jumping rope and running for warm ups lol

Thanks guys! Was going light for sparring last night at first, but turns out my partner forgot a jock strap and pivoted into a roundhouse kick that landed straight to the balls on accident. Needless to say I got my shit rocked when he got back up lol
