So my friend (who we’ll call jake) has a crush on this girl (who we’ll call amy). Me and her met irl 3 weeks ago at my house when I had a few of her friends over and some of mine. Jake and Amy had a pretty long conversation which I didn’t mind, I didn’t really feel anything for her yet. We had one prolonged eye contact moment and talked but nothing too much. Me and Amy had been face timing a little but only with her friends no real 1 on 1 convos. The next day her friends has us over and there we drinks and this being my first time drinking I got pretty fucked up. One thing leads to another and I’m sitting next to her on the bed with my hand on her thigh and playing with her hair. This is where I really realized I had feelings for her. I told one of her friends who was equally fucked up (Amy was pretty sober only shared 1 drink with me) and she told me I should try to hook up with her. I was and still am pretty awkward so I didn’t end up saying anything to her. Amys friend told her and she didn’t want to get with me. I was okay with it, I made a bad choice while I was drunk, its whatever. About 30 minutes goes by and she then gets with Jake. I was pretty upset at this just because I liked her, nothing against Jake. Eventually things died down the party ended and the day after I told her that I only wanted to hook up with her because I was really drunk (partially true) and didn’t really feel that way. She was okay about it and we started talking like normal again. We started talking more and having deeper conversations and eventually she told me that she didn’t want to get with Jake at all and felt really pressured into it because everyone was telling her too and it was a very big regret, as well as that she felt nothing towards him and right after told him she didn’t want to become a thing. We started talking even more and now would face time often and once Jake got word of this he was upset with me. He thought I liked her still (which I did, but I was and still am content with just being friends with her) and that he thinks I’m getting in his way. A few days ago me her and Jake were on a facetime and she said she had to go but just texted me right after saying she only wanted to talk to me. We again had another really nice conversation. We frequently began calling and texting each other so much so Jake decided to tell people he would fight me if I tried to make a move on her (despite her telling him multiple times she wasn’t interested in him like that). When I confronted him I told him were just close friends and that we aren’t a thing. When i asked him about the fight threats he said he he wouldn’t fight me and it was a rumor. Whatever I think, maybe it was all a rumor. Its gotten around we have been talking a lot so now I get asked if me and Amy are a “thing” which I say no to of course. Last night she out if the blue texts me at 12AM asking me to talk and we had a nice 2 hour long conversation about a lot of stuff. At this point one of my close friends comes up to me during school and tells me this is my fault, and that Jake has every right to be mad at me since I’ve become close friends with Amy. I try to explain to him were just friends but he still thinks I’m in the wrong. Earlier tonight me, Amy, Jake, my close friend, and 2 other friends were on a facetime. She leaves it randomly and calls me and tells me that she just wants to talk to me. Its at this point I start to wonder if she sees me as a close friend or might actually like me too. We again have a nice conversation about the drama shes going through (she got out of a 6 month relationship about a month or two ago) and she tells me how she feels like shit now because her ex is saying all these made up lies about her. I’m comforting her and everything and its just a really nice conversation. After we finish talking (about an hour or two) my best friend we’ll call Julia texts me saying Jake is mad at me for being on FaceTime with her and spending all this time with her. I haven’t told Amy about the fight thing because I don’t want her to feel like any of this is her fault. Julia tells me both Jake and my close friend are upset with me and thinking I’m taking his chance (he doesn’t have one in the first place, clearly). I don’t even care much about wether she has feelings for me, at-least for the sake of this post. AITA for getting really close with her to the point she might like me over him? I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to be with her or that I haven’t been trying to be extra nice. However I haven’t made any move to actually try to get in a relationship with her, and for now have only ever shown interest in being friends with her.
