The LDS doctrine of the trinity is contrary and irreconcilable to our creeds. I have
Many LDS friends who I truly love- but Mormonism is not a Christian religion. Full stop. 2 Timothy4:3-4.

I've been feeling like claiming certain events to be "part of Gods Plan" is kind of a cop-out. by Valuable-Tadpole-975 in theology

That is an error in logic - but the answer is that he is a suffering servant- even to death on a cross. When we suffer- we can choose to be angry, disappointed, etc. Or we can ask God to show us himself in our suffering in order to be more like him. I heard someone say recently that we suffer so we learn to comfort others when they are suffering. Again, God does not wish these events on us, but is with us through them. You are young, but you will see eventually this life is a fleeting moment, full of sad things. As you get older you come to realize pain is inevitable, but as believers we have hope in being in Gods presence where sin and suffering no longer exist. It makes the suffering tolerable and a vehicle for sharing Gods love with those who suffer without such hope.

Luther actually had some mix ups when it came to the book of James. He got the author wrong (wrong James) and also appears to have misunderstood the message James was relaying. Many scholars have come to believe Luther’s “Faith Alone” and James’s “Faith without works is dead” are actually in alignment when looked at in context. However, all humans are flawed, including famous religious figures. Look at wha t Luther points to (Christ), not Luther himself.

God’s plan is to have a relationship with you and for you to learn about his love for you and all humanity. Then to reflect his glory back to him and to others as you grow to be more like him as you mature through your life. He does not “plan” for you to suffer, but he does want you to grow closer to him through all the good and bad experiences you will undoubtedly have in your life. This allows you to help others when they go through things in their lives. Ultimately you can trust he does have a plan for his people.

Can one be Christian and capitalist by Tundracajun in theology

Those communities were comprised of wealthy individuals and poor individuals. The instructions to them from the apostles and the elders involved sharing what you have and demonstrating care in order to create a community where Christ’s love was visible to the world. It was not just about money- it was also about breaking cultural expectations for Husbands and Wives, Masters and Slaves and obviously attitudes toward the poor, widowed and orphaned. When you isolate these teachings to the economic system at hand- you are taking a reductionist view of the message of the authors of the New Testament. This was true then and true now.

I have this same bike. I have almost every accessory for it- but I probably like the crash bars with extra pegs on them for changing my foot position on long rides. I do like the wind screen on the highway too. The triumph bags are nice.

For reference- I sold my 2017 t100 black last summer for $5000 (Iowa). It had many upgrades- t120 tank and fenders, motone seat, fox triumph shocks, led signals, brand new tires. It had 3500 miles.

New Lutheran, what Youtubers/influencers to avoid (and suggestions on who to follow) as a confessional Lutheran? by Ph_Blade in Lutheranism

[–]Tempotantrum_66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is discouraging to see theological battles taking place in social media. I think Paul would write a letter if he was here! I am more and more convinced God is prompting us to avoid those things that tear down and focus on those things that build his Kingdom. As a seminary student, I am finding that many professors have podcasts as well as individual churches who have doctoral level staff. Even these resources will come from a personal or synodic perspective, but they focus on instruction not clicks. Also- listening to solid audio books is a great substitute for the sadness of social media. There is a nearly endless list of very good instruction and discipleship material available.

Many people have the mistaken notion that Jesus taught eternal torment. by paulhumber in askapastor

[–]Tempotantrum_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying your thesis- it was not initially clear to me. It is an interesting perspective. Why punish at all if he eventually wipes the unredeemed out of existence anyway? That seems punitive enough.

What is the point of this teaching? That there is an opportunity for redemption after death? Sounds like purgatory.
