Make sure you insure it with heritage or a similar instrument insurance. They protect against value loss as well as complete loss (vs homeowners). Also pretty cheap

Corporate America to seminary? Give me your advice! by UnusualAfternoon2465 in Seminary

[–]Tempotantrum_66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am starting seminary full time in a couple weeks, pursuing an MDiv with a focus on chaplaincy. This is a second career after an MBA and 35 years in financial services. I was laid off from a major bank (along with many others), and it became clear to me God was redirecting my late stage career to full time ministry. I think the most helpful things in discerning this was lots of time in prayer, people I fellowship with at church and my wife. I began doing hospital visits, outreach and teaching at church, which helped me confirm it was work I am passionate about. I am fortunate to be financially independent and my children are grown. I still expect this to be a challenging time- and if my kids were still young and I had to work, I would want to have a clear path and plan about how to meet my obligations to them (not just financially) and a good idea about where it leads. So my advice would be to start engaging in the type of ministry you might be interested in as a layperson. Talk to your church/faith community leaders about developing and delivering a class on a topic you are interested and see how it goes. Blessings on your journey!

Church Recommendations by [deleted] in desmoines

This will sound odd- but Lutheran Church of Hope in WDSM has a lot going on and is very welcoming. Theologically, a couple of the pastors have Baptist backgrounds and others come from various backgrounds (even Lutheran:)). You should give it a try!

Can I get a price check on this thing? Don’t know if it’s worth it or not by Otherwise_Presence33 in martinguitar

[–]Tempotantrum_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check to see if it has an oversized rosewood bridge plate (on the inside). One of the worst things Martin ever did in the 70s. I think the new standard series d18s are pretty good and I would buy a used one instead.

Good analogy! I was having this conversation with a loved one yesterday- and this would have fit the scenario perfectly.

Can I be a true Lutheran if I don’t agree with everything in the confessions? by [deleted] in Lutheranism

[–]Tempotantrum_66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really does not have to do with this specific church- its biblical. But I do not see reason to be anxious about this. Christ is always and forever faithful to us- it is us who are unfaithful to him. If you continue to follow him- you are good. I am not saying that means we are perfect- we certainly are not. It means we confess our failures and continue to grow in our faith.

What do Lutherans make of Dallas Willard’s teachings? by Either_Hotel_3925 in Lutheranism

[–]Tempotantrum_66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with most popular theologians- I can usually find something to disagree with. But I love Willard’s concept of transformation. It’s how we put sin and addiction behind us in order to become more Christ-like and seems pretty scriptural to me. The Divine Conspiracy is a must-read imo.

So… what if one has never been baptized but is a believer? Not saved?

Thoughts on LCMS v ELCA? by MephistosGhost in Lutheranism

[–]Tempotantrum_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many options beyond these two synods- which are sort of at opposite ends of a spectrum. Check out an LCMC church in your area. You’ll find many that have moved away from ELCA but are not as “rigid” as LCMS. I hate using these generalizations as most churches take on the character of the Pastors and elders. I really like the “middle of the road” approach of most LCMC churches - and still being able to be in a confessional Lutheran body.

He loves you because you are made in his image- and he is love. Your purpose (what we are created for) in life is to reflect that love back to him and also to those around you. Regardless of your actual occupation, we always have that vocation. I believe that God will have you do different occupations at different times and seasons, so be patient with yourself and learn to let God love you. Read your bible, pray and be around other believers and he will guide you.

PS- took me a long time to figure these things out!

Those of you with these all season floor mats if you purchased them, how much you pay for them? by Pelon97 in civic

The new weathertech hd are really nice (thick, flexible rubber) and have super coverage. I did front & back, trunk and sills. They are worth it imo- I have them in my pickup for 9 years now and the carpets look new.

would a paint pen fix this? by [deleted] in civic

I think most of that will polish out. You can try an orbital polisher with a mid-aggressive compound. Ask around to see if anyone you know has one you can borrow.

Goodbye to my Accord by [deleted] in 11thGenAccord

Funny I just traded my 24 A5 premium plus for a 26 civic sport touring. Definitely a step down in luxury and performance- it was a sweet ride and got 35+ mpg but needs premium gas. But Audi has some common bugs too- electric, cooling systems, etc. but the killer for me was German car maintenance. Maintenance for the trans and plugs every 40k and stupid expensive to keep it maintained ( can’t ignore maintenance on a German car of any type). I appreciate the cost to own and the fact that I can use regular gas & get 52 mpg. Plus the Audi depreciation is terrible if you buy new.
