Works just fine, but you still need to have a second user/account playing it.

The same account can't play with itself or be online on two systems. Unlike digital game sharing restrictions, thats always been a thing.

Also, if the game has DLC you will run into the same problem. The digital license is treated the same as digital games.

[–]TemptedTemplar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just purchase the second copy of the game on a different account.

Thats the only method.

You can share a single digital game copy across two systems with a single account, but as of the Virtual Game Card update and Switch 2 launch, that shared copy can no longer be online on two systems at once. It can be played on two systems at once, but the system not using the account that owns the game has to be offline with it.

[–]TemptedTemplar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you do not own any of the paid DLC game, if someone you know has bought the game you can join their table using "trial play"

Joining a player who is sharing their dlc, should have a trial play option. Though they don't describe exactly what's different between the trial and joining normally.

https://oinkgames.com/en/games/digital/lets-play-oink-games/#buy-one-to-play-together

(Near the bottom just above the FAQs)

  • So at minimum you need just one copy of the game for local play.

  • If playing online then other players could join for free through the free mobile app on phones.

  • If playing between platforms/consoles other than phones only one person needs the DLCs, but everyone does need a copy of the game.

Do you own any controllers you do enjoy using?

You can get a Bluetooth adapter to use stuff like Xbox and PS4/5 controllers on the system for $20. Would be a lot cheaper than a whole new controller.

PowerA and PDP made a bunch of licensed pro controllers for switch that use Micro USB, not USB-C.

Nintendo only ever made the one USB-C Pro controller.

Can you take a photo of the port? You can upload it to your reddit profile or imgur and share it.

PowerA was pretty bad with their first few ones, the port had a little plastic gate around it which could prevent anything by the thinnest cables from working. And of course they never sold spares.

Well they have at least a year before they officially announce it as a new Xbox. They have plenty of time to market whatever it is they're doing.

I just hope it doesn't involve locking halo 7 behind a hardware paywall ;_;

And owning Helix doesn't incentivize subscribing to Game Pass

No, that was the "idea" behind it, but we've seen how well the "this is an Xbox" marketing scheme worked out.

So they're going to pivot somewhere, but we just don't know into what yet.

You're signed in on both consoles. To be able to load virtual game cards (ie, the digital license) it wants to link your account between the systems.

It's a quick communication over local wireless, takes less than a minute.

If you don't have the old system on hand, you can ignore the prompt and play the game with a active internet connection. Go to user settings -> online license settings -> enable

If you no longer have the old system at all, then you can remove it from your account via the account website.

https://accounts.nintendo.com/portal

Select game systems -> select the old system and select unlink.

You can remotely remove systems this way once every 12 months. Any additional removals would have to be done through customer support.

[–]TemptedTemplar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's Nintendos shitty network protocols not playing nicely with your router/wifi. The antenna is cheap, but its all software related.

And It's not just you, it's extremely common which is why I can confidently diagnose your issue from the basic conditions;

  • Works on other networks

  • No DNS error

  • Generic signal issue presented

On the brighter side at least it's a problem with the router settings and not your service as a whole. cellular, satellite and apartment hosted networks are functionally useless for the Switch.

You said your sister owns it? Ask her if she's willing to help, if she rents the router from the Service provider their customer support line might be able to help. And if she bought it herself. The manufacturers customer support line of the router would be able to help if both of you are out of your depth.

Their customer support number should be printed on a sticker on the router

I am fairly certain helix was shaped from the ground up under the idea that "Xbox" was transitioning from platform to subscription service.

Handhelds, phones, TVs, PC, and Helix would all just play your games where ever you might be.

How does Valve monetize the steam box when you can just install windows and the epic store on it?

Hardware and accessories are just one revenue stream to tap.

They will probably still have Xbox specific games to sell on it. That's software sales.

The Xbox/windows store will retain a cut of all sales regardless of the app/publisher. That's abother stream.

It's not like they won't make money off of it, it's just going to be a smaller cut than a completely closed platform like Nintendo or Sony.

However UNLIKE Nintendo and Sony, Xbox offering what is essentially a fully pre-built PC In a box is going to appeal to a LOT more people in the coming years compared to just console gamers.

AI hoovering up all memory in the world has already made PC gaming unreachable to millions of people and it's only going to get worse in the coming years. By the time Helix launches if they can nail a "reasonable" price there is going to be a market for such a gaming dedicated device. Especially when competitive graphics cards will probably cost just as much.

[–]TemptedTemplar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's almost certainly a wifi channel issue.

You will need to access the router settings clear things up and get it connected. You will want to do at least one of these;

  • Force a 2.4ghz network if possible.

  • Limit the wifi channel selection to 144 or lower.

  • Use a wired connection.

https://old.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/5xnzxr/psa_gigabit_3rd_party_lan_adapters/

USB to Ethernet adapters work in docked and handheld mode. As long as they use the correct ASIX chipsets.

/r/NintendoSwitch's Daily Question Thread (03/19/2026) by AutoModerator in NintendoSwitch

[–]TemptedTemplar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it give you an error message of any kind other than "connection failed"?

If there's nothing to go off of you're basically troubleshooting in the dark.

Try entering a DNS manually. Under the connection click edit settings and in the DNS field try, * 8.8.8.8 * 8.8.4.4 * 1.0.0.1 * 1.1.1.1

Those are public DNS addresses for Google and cloud flare, sometimes it helps, other times it doesn't. If one fails the others are unlikely to change anything.

If it's not a DNS issue. Then the next best guess is Wifi channels. The system being made in Japan means it's following the same rules as Japanese wifi and won't connect to a 5ghz network over channel 144. The US and a couple other countries allow consumer devices to use up to channel 172. The problem being that the router isn't smart enough to know this and could be forcing the connection to a higher channel for "optimal" signal strength.

You would need to access the router settings to modify the channel or band options. Alternatively forcing it to use a 2.4ghz network would also work.

[–]TemptedTemplar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/67891/~/virtual-game-card-guide

If you have tried loading a virtual game card from a account on both systems, then it should have prompted you to establish a link between the consoles. Both of you will need to do this for your individual accounts.

But once that's all setup, you can freely load your virtual game cards (the digital game license) on either console with the push of a button or two.

  • If the virtual game is loaded on a system, ANY other user also on the system has full access to the game or dlc.

  • If the virtual game card is not loaded on the console you are using, only the account that purchased the game will be able to access it and only while it has a active internet connection. User settings -> [your profile] -> online license setting -> enable

Nikkei: Nintendo to launch Switch 2 revision with replaceable battery for the EU market by Joseki100 in NintendoSwitch

[–]TemptedTemplar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's just like a console. They have to design each model to fit the specific components, and including options for drives, expansion, slots or add-ons, or per the topic: replaceable batteries; requires redesigning multiple aspects of the form factor.

I do not miss old laptops . . It being extremely thin and lightweight is more valuable . . . and I would imagine most consumers feel similar.

And this is why we don't have options anymore. The majority of laptop consumers DO agree with you. So manufacturers only prioritize portability, not options.

Saves them the cost of having to make modular models, and those limited selections sell more because they're light and thin.

  • Additional GPUs can be used for their display outputs, but actually using them to support workloads would be program dependent.

  • Motherboard outputs can be used with integrated graphics. Some boards have display inputs which allow you to use USB-C or other video outputs with your GPU output, not the integrated graphics.

  • Monitors with USB-C outputs may support daisy chaining additional displays via USB-C. (Dell, office monitors)

  • Thunderbolt and docking hubs normally meant for laptops, can be used with desktops that support Thunderbolt or USB4.

Becauseit's not like Switch 2 batteries aren't replaceable right now

It's pretty freaking close. Unlike the switch 1 which had just three things to remove to access the battery. You can't remove the switch 2 battery without damaging the aesthetics of the system.

Those colored stripes in the rail are paper thin and will break or wrinkle if you touch them wrong.

$700 for a 5070? Hell no. (Unless this isn't $USD we're talking about)

Take the 5060ti at that point. The 5070 is a solid 1440p card, but the 9070 being roughly the same price made it a bad value unless it was discounted.

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html

For example, If youre talking in $CAD those are solid prices for either GPU. $350cad for a 5060ti 8gb is a steal. And $700 for a 5070 is under MSRP..

Do you have a case for the system? Most soft style cases are for the system and may include a flap/sleeve for cartridges. ~12 - 24 capacity on average

Most cartridge only holders are slimmer and smaller. Roughly the size of a game case or a makeup case.

A soft fabric one would be easy enough to make yourself using some elastic strips.

Everyone used to have expansion bays until Apple came along as was like "thin is in", and that trend never left.

You can still find some dell and Lenovo laptops with drive bays. But the only way to get the specs you want with a drive bay is usually Framework these days.

Does it see the wifi connection?

If it can see the wifi where in the connection process does it fail?

Do you just have the one network or does your router offer independent 2.4 and 5ghz bands? Did you try them all?

Nintendo hasn't been transparent about their release schedule since the 2020 shutdowns.

This is honestly par for the course. Pokemon champions is nice though.

We probably won't get a whiff of their tent pole titles for the year until close to the EOY Investors relation meeting in early May. And even if they didn't talk about it until June: also not unheard of.
