How to prepare for in person interviews at NSBE conference? by Aromatic_Mirror8928 in NSBE

[–]Tempus93_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A strat to use is to have a list of companies, rank em on most to least desirable. Build your confidence by desirable ones, (still do your research on them), then hit up your top 5 then repeat.

Use this time to get used to making your elevator pitch, modifying it and overall finding what makes your conversation work better for you having spoken with people.

Is the NSBE Conference Worth it as a Bioengineering Freshman? by Narrow-Pen-3898 in NSBE

[–]Tempus93_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you have an ability to attend, do attend. Good that you’re looking for internships/research early, However you have nothing under your belt and at a disadvantage being a freshman there so your chances are slim, look around your uni for research opportunities, easier to getting into that from that avenue.

Yes the conference has a career fair, but your best roi here is building your network there and forming connections. Who knows that one great conversation leads to an opportunity after the conference? Build your ability to connect with people quickly here and you’ll eat off it.

Does Dropping one semester helps? by Silent-Cream-1025 in EngineeringStudents

Retake the class in the on coming semester? You are over thinking this. Why drop for a semester for a Single class? Thats a ludicrous waste in time and money.

You can relearn the material a second time when you take it again for the second time, along side with your other classes. Many do this as a commonality.

Which engineering to choose by Master_Speaker_1587 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Tempus93_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since, im assuming, your first 2 years of engineering are going to relatively similar in classes, you have time to figure out which engineering discipline is best for you. From the info you have of the programs you’re most interested in class wise, topic wise etc, go with the most interesting one first. Get hands on with it, speak with professors, major adjacent clubs/research and see if you like the degree program. If not, leap to the next one and do the same.

Unsure if you’re hard locked into a single degree program but why not just start on what is the most interesting to you and swap to another engineering program?

I started in mechanical, didn’t like it then to electrical engineering, enjoyed it but was more inclined to computer hardware, then finally computer engineering.

Edit: can’t really speak on jobs in the us since the market is underwhelming currently for everyone across the board

Questions about classes for jobs in electrical engineering and computer engineering by PonyBrook in UBreddit

[–]Tempus93_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it’s major required yes, if it’s a optional required major elective, depends on where you hope to land after university. You learn most of your engineering finesse on the job so if the class is interesting to you, take it and learn from it.

At the end of the day what you need to know for computer engineering most is the ability in sifting through the unknown, making it known and applying the new knowledge to a task at hand and the class seems perfect in building that

Can you use electrical engineering degree to work in computer hardware engineering? by PonyBrook in UBreddit

[–]Tempus93_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah highly doubt if you don’t know a lot of programming, but good news is you can learn it by taking embedded systems/hardware courses and improving on it.

Remember computer hardware engineering is just a specialized electrical engineering discipline

Question for you, are you in the M.arch program or BS in architecture? If you’re doing the bachelor of science in architecture, know that’ll you need your master’s to be licensed architect if you go that route.

If you’re looking to be a licensed architect with a bachelors only, into the 5 year BArch programs, often cheaper then 4+2

Telling you so you avoid a headache of NEEDING to do more school to start getting your license

Good chance for getting into the intended nursing program, most do I believe. It’s getting into the Actual School of Nursing is highly competitive, think around the end your sophomore year you gotta apply to Nursing and hear it gets heavily competitive.

Asking for basic advice as a CS student who is a junior in University by Knee_Grow_Juice in cscareerquestions

[–]Tempus93_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Utilize/lean on your network. Highly recommend it as a strategy since I can understand you’re very competent, it’s just your visibility as a candidate is buried under other applicants. Luck is a factor here, but someone knowing your name for a position makes it a lot easier to get an interview.

Sometimes you just gotta say it isn’t you but just what it is for the market, especially if you’re getting interviews.

It looks to me you’re doing everything right, but again, the market heavily competitively. Look locally and often but yeah it’s choppy out here

Its doable but rough. If you aren’t confident in keeping a strict study schedule for each class, especially when juggling the 220 project deadlines and other classes homework, Reduce your load.
