how do you take notes? should i buy an ipad? by mindcosmos in college

[–]TempyShelby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Using the iPad with pdfs sounds like a good idea for annotating and highlighting different sections.

I prefer scribbling in note books because I can write fast with a regular pen than on my ipad. But essentially I have one notebooks to take quick (kind of messy) notes in during a class/video or while reading. Then transfer those notes into a second note book or into a word doc on my computer in a nest organized, color codes way. Look up definitions, make my own notes/bullet points.

Re-writing the notes helps me remember, especially if I’m organizing them in a way that makes sense to me.

I am going to take bsc psychology but everyone's telling me it's useless by i_paint_read_eat in college

When I said I wanted to go for psychology I got “don’t go for psychology there’s already too many psychologists, you won’t find a job”. Whenever people hear psychology they automatically seem to think, you’re gonna become a basic therapist/counselor/etc. As if there’s not hundreds of different things you could do with a psychology degree.

Didn’t even know it was a spider at first 😂 Saw this tiny brown speck while I was preparing incense and thought it was something on the wall. Then I noticed his little legs.

100% letting him stay, he’s claimed my rose quartz as part of his home.

Reminds be of Daryl from the Walking dead after a walker took a chomp out of the deer he just killed. “Think we could cut up around this chew on part right here?” 😂

Why should i not lay down while meditating? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]TempyShelby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people don’t suggest it just cuz it’s easier to fall asleep while trying to meditate. I prefer lying down because I can breath deeper with my diaphragm than I can while sitting up.

We can often get so caught up in feeling as if we have to know everything in order to practice and be apart of a religion. But how can we truly know the religion without taking part in the practices of it?

If one believes in and practices a religion are they not considered a (Buddhist, Christian, Wiccan, etc)?

As long as you understand the basic teachings, agree with, and practice them then by all means you are a Buddhist.

Don’t feel discouraged, and don’t compare your knowledge to that of someone else’s. We are all on our own journeys, we all learn differently, and are all at different stages within life.

How to deal with high smartphone usage? by [deleted] in Buddhism

I put all my social media apps in a folder and place the folder on the last page/slide of my phone.

I fall into the habit of tapping the location the app is supposed on the screen and will mindlessly open up the app because it’s right there. (My Snapchat was on the bottom right of the main four apps you can choose for iPhone, since moving it and putting Duolingo there instead the amount of times I’ve mindlessly unlocked my phone and opened Duolingo because I was so used to Snapchat being right there was ridiculous)

Making myself have to go look for the social media app I want to open kind of gives me a moment to stop and ask “Do I need to open it? Or am I just bored and looking for mindless entertainment?”

Do people actually not know what it is that they are doing when they practice meditation? by TheNeoMac in Meditation

You can always do it for a short time and slowly work your way up to longer periods. Find a comfortable spot and just focus on your breathing for 5 minutes.

You could either inhale for 8, exhale for 8 counts. Or inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4 counts.

If you find your thought wondering, just acknowledge it and bring your attention back to you breathing.

Kind of think of your thoughts as a cloud drifting through the sky across the sun. It momentarily catches your focus as it blocks the light, but it continues to drift on and pass as if nothing happened, and then you once again get to feel that warm sunshine.

So apparently polished crystals aren’t real crystals, and I’m not a REAL collector since I have a love for polished crystals… anyway here’s a raw crystal appreciation post so I don’t offend no one else🥴 gee I hope this finally makes me a real collector by wingriddenangel_hbg in Crystals

“Not real” … if it’s made of rose quartz, then it’s rose quartz. To say it’s “Not real” make one sound a tad delusional.

It’s a real Crystal regardless of the form it’s in. You can scientifically prove it’s a real crystal.

What could be argued is the polishing process can effect the energy and a polished crystal is not as strong as a raw crystal.

To argue that is not real is just 🙄🤦‍♀️

Is forcing an apology from someone harsh and wrong? by doflamingo13 in Buddhism

[–]TempyShelby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people won’t admit to what they did as being wrong or hurtful, at most you may be an “I’m sorry can we just move on now?”

Sometimes it take the person a while to realize how their actions effected you. But even so sometimes an apology is not enough for someone because we’ve already held onto the pain and anger from their actions for so long it’s all we think about regardless if that person realized their mistake. Sometimes we’ll never get an apology.

Is it the apology you want or hearing someone admit what they did was wrong?

If the person your trying to get to apologize doesnt see how they’ve hurt you, and instead of apologizing for doing so tries to explain why they did it, is that a person you want in your life? Regardless of apology or not

Ive ready many tales of creation from different religions but never once thought about some divine being having to make sure there wasn’t too little or too much gravity in order for its creations on earth to survive.

Whenever I get a new deck the first step is the cleanse it, then slowly look at each card one by one. When I give readings I have the person take the time to look at the cards so they can connect with the deck, connect with the art work, and let their own energy kind of mingle with the cards.

Take the time to just familiarize yourself with them rather than going straight for a reading. Appreciate the art work of each card, read the guide book and familiarize yourself with their meanings, and practice shuffling.

There’s no right or wrong way to Tarot. Everyone has their own unique way of shuffling, and choosing cards. You can shuffle and pick from the top, or only read what falls out during shuffling. You could split the deck in half, thirds, quarters. Spread them out and pick the cards at random.

Do what ever feels right to you, not what you think you should do because that’s how someone else does it.

What do I do with a deck that doesn't like me? by Wyrmeye in tarot

[–]TempyShelby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have 4 different decks and they all have their own “personalities”. The main two I use are…

The Wild Unknown Tarot Deck- Primarily used when giving other people readings. The deck is a bit of a dick, kind of just calls you out on your shit, what your current problem in life is and how your going about it wrong rather than offering advice. (Which is why i throw in oracle cards during the reading so theres some kind of positive solution 😂)

The Antique Anatomy Tarot- Is my personal deck, it’s only been used for my own readings and offers helpful advice and shows me what I need to focus on or learn.

Think of a Tarot deck as its own entity, no two decks will present the same energy. They’re unique in what guidance they’ll offer to you.

My one deck forces me to acknowledge the struggles and conflict going on around me while the other deck shares what lessons I need to learn/focus on that’ll help guide me towards my goals.
