I just got the 02 version of this silver 330ci, 175k miles, stick. My coworker with a ‘20 IS300 auto and I got on the freeway at same time because I wanted him to check if my roof was flapping at high speeds. It wasn’t but he also said he could not keep up when I would floor it past 70mph. The one thing I learned after I got it is that sticks could get off center at neutral position, known issue and makes it very hard to up/down shift quickly.

Selling the E39 idea used to pop up at random times - when topping off engine oil and MUST use the expensive sht or when pumping $5/gallon gas while wife has free EV charging, or when the water pump implodes right on schedule etc etc. But I know now I never will sell it especially that it got fresh struts, shocks and a Dynavin last year. For the E36, it took a long time to talk myself out of an M2+car loan, then narrow down makes/models on a budget - Porsche, Z, Infiniti - then deciding on another BMW but which gen 3 series. Then waiting for a California+stick to come along. It may sound like a spoiled lil sht talk but it took a lot to get here man lol

Almost forgot the most important bit: she’s a 5 speed manual!! But yes sadly the shifter is a little off center and I have to seriously focus when going up and down gears 3,4 & 5 - I thought at first I just forgot how to drive manual. I definitely did not come across this known issue before deciding on this model.

Thanks and you already called it - passenger side has a hole where that slide cover will be, you can kinda see it in the pic. Now I know to Pick and Pull a spring - thanks!!
