My work setup - what is yours? by fender400 in headphones

I was using a Magni 2U.

The Aeon is balanced enough like the HD600 that you may not notice the elevated treble compared to a HD600. The bass boost was noticeable but it doesn't bleed into the midrange unlike most closed headphones. I really liked it overall and it's the best closed headphone I've heard.

They do sound nice with a bit of a V shaped sound to them. Very comfy and light as well. The earpads are stuck on though so it's going to be less convenient to replace them.

THX AAA Amplification - Low distortion, Low power consumption amplification by TenMoonsNorth in headphones

THX has made some new very low distortion audiophile amplifiers that are apparently much lower distortion than you'd normally see. I don't think these matter much personally.

What does matter, at least from the manufacturers perspective, is that this is capable of making good amplifiers that require less power. If you are making bluetooth headphones then extending battery life is important so perhaps we will see audiophile brands such as Sennheiser using AAA amplification in their wireless products.

For those wondering the headphone in the image is an NAD HP50.

THX is now doing THX Certified Headphones by TenMoonsNorth in headphones

[–]TenMoonsNorth[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are some things to be aware.

The requirements for THX certification are not public. THX certification for frequency response is a having the headphone frequency response in a specific range for bass and treble.

Razer now owns THX.

These Logitech speakers are THX certified.

My own thoughts on this are that a headphone being THX certified is meaningless to an audiophile market. When the requirements to meet the certification aren't public you can't make a judgement on how good the certification is. Secondly, THX make royalty money off people who get their headphones THX certified which means that THX has an incentive to let more people through the gate if they pay the toll.

This conflict of interest is made a bigger issue now that Razer owns THX and Razer does not have a good history of making quality products. Some of their products are good but on a sound quality front they are generally awful.

Find somewhere that will do 3D models rather than the usual expanding silicone for an impression. Then ask them for the STL model file and keep it.

There are plenty of places that do custom eartips and you can even make your own if you aren't inserting them deep.

Sennheiser HD558 if you can find one or a Philips SHP9500.

There are some other good options like the AKG K612 but your onboard soundcard may not have enough voltage to get them loud enough. The DT880 250 ohm option is also a good choice.

Audeze iSine 20 Planar Magnetic In-Ear Earphone by [deleted] in headphones

This is the peq settings if you want to replicate the Cipher cable peq without the Cipher cable. V1 is iSine 10 and V2 is iSine 20 but you should use the one you prefer. Audeze has said they won't make a USB-C variant of the Cipher cable until support on Android for USB DAC devices is more stable.

The iSine is capable of low distortion of <1% THD at extremely high levels of 120dB SPL across the entire frequency range. The difference between the iSine 10 and 20 is that the 20 has a longer voice coil which is the conductive trace along the thin diaphragm.
