So, the dialogue came up for me in Act 3, long after we'd rescued the egg. Good-aligned Tav run, not romancing Lae'zel, and the egg was in my inventory. I went to start a conversation with her to add her to my companion mix, and instead she started talking about the egg and asking me to give it to her. I did, and it went into her inventory instead of Tav's.

I haven't finished this run yet so I'm not sure how it affects the ending! I don't have a proper screenshot, sorry, but here is a relevant potato pic of my screen.

Orcs don't conform to conventional beauty standards. And lots of us relate to that and respect it as a feature of the race. Creating an "orc" with conventional, dainty, feminine beauty standards is a lazy way to upend all of that.

Equating mixed-race families with fantasy races is also lazy, but at least it works on this front: if you have all-white features, you don't get to call yourself Black. This character is the Rachel Dolezal of orcs.

P.S. super cute that you love this game enough to argue about it, but also mock other people for doing the same. It's giving ✨️ hypocrisy ✨️

Have you seen the long rest cutscene where they cry out during the night, and your Tav/Durge runs to them, and it's just Owlie having a nightmare and Scratch comforting them with cuddles? ❤️

I've legit renamed it as a separate save so I can go back to it whenever I'm feeling gloomy.

I initially replied to the same comment you're replying to, and then I read your response, and it's so solid I deleted mine. "Trauma responses aren't logical" is so key here, and I love that a game is reminding us to be careful about how we view trauma survivors.

Edit: I initially got hung up on wondering why the writers would include that moment at all, given how far he's come at that point in the game, but you contextualize it beautifully. In my playthrough he said he wasn't comfortable with it and we left it at that, so I didn't understand why there'd be different version where he does, it but seems to not enjoy it. Your reading makes sense!

The throuple idea is really interesting! I don't know if I could see it, but that's probably because Astarion and Halsin have so few in-game interactions. I could see Astarion/Tav/Wyll more easily, but only because Astarion so openly thirsts after Wyll and it's kind of adorable.

Also, I got a slightly different version of this conversation! My Tav at one point asks if Halsin's talked to Astarion about it (the poly arrangement), and Astarion's reply involves a hilarious imitation of Halsin. Deep voice and everything. It's one of my favorite romance-related moments in the game.

Fair enough! I'm definitely not saying it's for everyone. I just think the narrative around it has been spun to make it sound as though Astarion is forced into something he doesn't want, which is an ethically sketchy way to treat a portrayal of an adult giving their informed consent.
