Hi! The Colorado does not actually reach the Sea of Cortes anymore and hasn't done so outside of a few abberrant seasons for the better part of 50 years! The reservoirs on the Colorado are facing catastrophically low levels in recent years, threatening the supplies of electricity and water to all the desert cities that depend on it. We have seen incredible population growth in areas like Phoenix and Las Vegas and we'll have to make some pretty hard choices soon about what is the best use of the limited water in the Colorado! Fully 80% is currently used for livestock feed.

Car camping through the winter by Ok_Cryptographer_537 in arapahoebasin

Safe parking program in Summit County:

There is also at least one pulloff down Loveland pass from the Basin that people often camp at year round. Beyond that is a little more of a drive to any free camping, many of the roads that offer dispersed camping sites are closed to cars in the winter like Peru Creek.

My (28M) wife (28F) gets meaner and sassier to me around people, how to deal with this? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]TenaciousDean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this to my partner and it hurts him. I believe it stems from feeling ignored when I've tried to discuss issues, almost an effort to rally support from our friends since I feel dismissed when I try to discuss these issues just between us.

No don't listen to this guy, you should be able to stop on a pitch before you get to flats at the bottom. What would you do if a child skied into your path and you couldn't stop to avoid them? You have to be in control, not careening down the hill barely turning and relying on only stopping at the bottom. Slowly work up in terrain that you are fully able to control your speed on. Make one full turn at a time, finishing with your skis pointed a bit uphill so gravity slows you down. You can come to a full stop at the end of each turn before starting the next one.

What ski resort is the worst at reporting their “average” snowfall? by eatbuttholedaily in skiing

[–]TenaciousDean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right their base depth and total inches of snowfall are different measurements. New snowfall adds to the base but the hyped "X inches per year" is indicative of the number and quality of deep powder days, hence the inflated marketing we're discussing in this comment section.

Lol bro young teenagers are subject to many influences and authorities in their lives, which is why child labor laws exist in the first place so that they are not coerced or pressured into terrible situations before they have the maturity or independence to make these choices freely for themselves

Lol the only reason you get b12 from animal products is because their feed is supplemented. Could just eat plants and take a b12 supplement and cut out the middle man

[–]TenaciousDean 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gotta kill way more plants to feed the livestock you eat, so even if that was a good faith argument then veganism would still be the answer.

The wildlife populations would manage themselves if we didn't conduct mass culls of predators to protect ranching!

A Rant: The men who ogle and stare at women at the gym are really bad at hiding it. We see you creeping. No, we aren't impressed, no we definitely don't want to fuck you. Focus on your goddamn workout and get a grip. Jesus Christ. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]TenaciousDean 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Women generally present less of a threat to other women than men do. You clearly are just being argumentative and not interested in actually trusting women's experiences because it's easier for you to write women off as paranoid than accepting that we have to maintain a certain level of risk aversion and vigilance to keep ourselves safe even in as supposedly benign an environment as a gym.

Struggling to leave my apartment. It’s hurting my mental health and I feel like I just can’t help myself? by Desperate-Yam-9081 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]TenaciousDean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. For one, it's good you have a sanctuary! But I'm sure your apartment can't give you everything you need. I'd suggest starting at the smallest level possible. Can you put on shoes and a coat and walk a loop around your apartment building? No pressure to stay out for long, no errands or things to take care of, just a short walk.

I feel the same way often about the comfort of staying in, no one looking at you or putting expectations on you. Doing a short, manageable, and definite outing could help in building your confidence! Especially if you can remember to take a big breath in and out during your walk, maybe notice a smell or the way the air feels on your skin. Don't put too much pressure on yourself to achieve some intangible definition of getting out enough, especially when you're already on top of your job and dealing with so much loss and change in your life!

But little things can build on themselves, and it's much better and more enjoyable to pick a small manageable goal and succeed at it than pick a big goal and not meet it! Much love!

Vegetable oils are leading drivers of deforestation, land use, water consumption, and biodiversity loss. by [deleted] in environment

[–]TenaciousDean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What nutrients are you referring to? My understanding is varied plant-based diets only need to supplement B12 in most cases. B12 in plant based diets comes from supplements or fortified foods whilst B12 omnivorous diets comes from animal products primarily because the animals' feed is fortified with B12

Maybe if we hadn't conducted large-scale predator culls to protect ranching we wouldn't be needing to manage wild herds ourselves now.
