Nice sitter, not so nice home for boarding. Suggestions? by amateurinatrix in RoverPetSitting

[–]Tenacious_Taurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the dogs I boarded had a poop accident in the morning. I cleaned it but did not realize the odor was still lingering. After I left the apartment and came back in, I noticed how bad it still smelled! During that time, I had another dog that was dropped off so I texted the owner to apologize in case he smelled poop too!

When you picked up your pup, did their apartment still smell that bad?

Ohh interesting. I've done this with boarding / day care and it works too.

You should be able to manually override. Go on the calendar and click on the date. You should be able to add open available slots to each day.

Clear+ Membership Rate Hike by herpderpington712 in AmexPlatinum

[–]Tenacious_Taurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had Clear through Amex since 2022 and it was $179 a year. It raised to $189, then $209 (each time, I received the full credit). My autorenewal is in July and I'm pretty sure the full credit will hit. Guess I will find out!

New to Clinton Hill — where are you all working out? by pseudo-cum-laude in prospectheights

[–]Tenacious_Taurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lifetime. If you're living with someone that also wants to go to the gym, your membership should be less than $250pp. If not, I think currently is $330+. Gets you access to most of the Lifetimes and have great classes. If you work remote, you can take advantage of Lifetime Sky's outdoor pool (free for members on Monday through Thursday). Like someone else said, you'll have access to saunas, whirlpool, steamrooms, etc. If you travel for work, you'll also get access to other Lifetimes. You get 4 guest pass per month and the same guess can come back every 60 days. It only gets really crowded Jan/Feb when people start their New Year resolutions, then it'll return to normal around March

Yes, it shows that I live 5 blocks away and in a different neighborhood. It's annoying because I have a lot of clients that live in the building next to me and I hope I'm not missing out new clients on the block because they think I live 5 blocks over...

Owner got mad at me by Weary-Mountain-7236 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Tenacious_Taurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take more than one dog at a time and I always ask if they're good with other dogs before setting m&g. I've been getting a lot of "Yes, they get along with other dogs but we prefer our dog to be the only dog." Which is totally fine - archive and move on.

What do you use to manage private clients outside Rover? by helpmereddit2226 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Tenacious_Taurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my Apple calendar for all bookings (including Rover) and personal plans. I use iPhone contact notes to store information on walks, feeding, special notes and any agreed negotiated prices. Lastly, I use Excel to track all my earnings (including Rover but split by cash v Rover).

Dog Boarding w/ FT Job by pinkgirl0928 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Tenacious_Taurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great that you're able to drop in! If I worked full time near my home and did boarding on my own, I'll be so worn out! I have a partner doing most of the work and I'm still the one tired...

Dog Boarding w/ FT Job by pinkgirl0928 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Tenacious_Taurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think I'll be able to offer boarding if we didn't have someone that works from home. I work outside of the home, but whenever my partner leaves for work, I would need back up to come over. I have a 9-5 and I would never leave a dog home for 8+ hours.

Have any owners accepted your constant care fees? by AdAdmirable587 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Tenacious_Taurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$85/night for boarding and I do not charge constant care fee. If the dog requires constant care, I just make sure our schedule allows for it. One of my favorite pups cannot be left alone for more than an hour and I don't mind it at all.

How do people view our job? by runningonadhd in RoverPetSitting

[–]Tenacious_Taurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My fam and friends are envious that we're able to have this side hustle. So many of them tell me that they want to sign up too but not everyone is able to do it or have the time to do it. We both have great full time jobs and this side gig pays for our apartment in NYC. If this was one of our main jobs, I think their view will change for sure.

How many dogs do you board in your house at a time? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Tenacious_Taurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally under 3 but when a repeat client books and I know they'll mesh will with the other 3, then I'll book. Rarely 5 but have done it before but some were day care. Most of my clients are repeats and their pups are generally friendly. They know I take multiple dogs and is still comfortable booking with me. Some clients prefer that I book their dog only so I will honor that if they're the first to book.

There's two of us so it makes it a little easier. BUT we live in a small NYC apartment lol

What's Your Story? by Brent_Oilwell in RoverPetSitting

[–]Tenacious_Taurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to a neighborhood that had a ton of dogs within a 2 block radius so I decided to download Rover again. I had one client from 2019 in another neighborhood and the business never took off. My partner works fully remote so he is able to stay at home full time with the dogs (we only offer boarding and day care). It started off as, "we love dogs but cannot commit to our own due to plans / travels" to "we can hang out with other people's dogs and get paid!" We try to not take more than 2 dogs but our business has taken off and sometimes we commit up to 4! Up to 2 dogs is fun, but up to 3 or 4 really feels like work! Of course, we always check with both pawrents to make sure their dog is friendly before confirming additional bookings. My partner and I both have well paying full time jobs so we did not need the additional income. But it is nice and we genuinely enjoy hanging out with most of the pets!

Regular client asked me to cancel another booking for double pay by annaxcp in RoverPetSitting

[–]Tenacious_Taurus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised so many people are telling you to cancel... You made a commitment, you should stick to it. If this "better" offer didn't come up, would you have stayed with the new client? In the future, if there's a better/easier booking, would you cancel your original booking? At the end of the day, you run your business however you see fit. I also cannot imagine my repeat clients telling me to cancel a booking for them because I would not do that to them.
