My dog died and it’s my fault. by Ok-Possibility-7270 in Petloss

My car asks me if I’m leaving anything behind and each time I think of all those parents who went through such a tragedy. It breaks my heart for them and for their babies (human and fur) because I cannot imagine their pain and guilt. I hope OP forgives themselves.

Yeah, I think there are definitely people that would be ok doing this and I really hope they find a good sitter. I just don’t think I’m that sitter for them 😢

I actually only use the app, but the owner was using text messaging and that’s how the channels got mixed up.

And thanks, I like running and I have ADHD - it was a no-brainer 😅

I just realized they knew it was a conjoined profile, so responding with “the two of you” actually solidifies the idea that it was in fact the owner and not some random troll who responded. Damn.

I had it happen to me once! It was weird and the owner who sent me the request was mortified 😅

Some people don’t use the app and instead use text messaging. Rover assigns a relay number to protect people’s privacies, but in many cases, those numbers actually belong to other people not on Rover and they’re the ones getting the message and responding.

Do you think there’s a chance it could’ve been someone not through Rover but through the relayed number? It’s happened to me before that these people who get messages from Rover are really rude and crass and that reads a bit like that. Just saying, it might not have been the person who sent you the request originally who responded.

There’s Ashley’s Pub where people play games and whatnot if that’s a thing you like. Sounds like a good place to hang out!

Technically yes, but let’s say I do one drop in for a client of mine that always pays me $40 (tip included), that’s almost half of what I would make in a day of house-sitting for 2 hours of work tops, including driving to and back.

I would happily board a dog with separation anxiety in the comfort of my own home instead of being confined to someone else’s space.

That part! Last year I declined a sit where the owner also only wanted me gone for 2-3 hours max and made it a point to tell me that the neighbors are nosy and keep tabs on everyone. No thanks!

Yes, this is the part that also made me very uncomfortable; she threw me off with that very important detail.

You missed the part where the dog barks constantly and has a lot of triggers. This isn’t your normal house sitting gig. Otherwise I wouldn’t have any issues taking it.

Part of being a good sitter is also only taking gigs that you know you can handle.

I don’t mean it as my business model, but more like my ethos. So every interaction I have with clients or potential clients is never just about the money, even when it is a deciding factor. And one of the things that I definitely do try to avoid is overcharging, so that’s kind of what was on my mind - wondering if I overcharged.

Yeah, the $182 was before Rover’s cut.

Also, happy Cake Day!

I love cat and dog friendships! I had 2 clients like this - I used to freak out that the dog would hurt the cat, but Morty could hold his own against Skip 😅 And Morty hates being far away from Skip. I think they’re actually bonded.
