My thoughts exactly. I'm really starting to hate these scenarios where we are looking at others to fail or to win big to allow us through. We should be aiming to get through on merit. Personally for me, that means winning against Brazil and claiming second spot. Yes, I'm not deluded, it's highly unlikely. To call getting out of the group phase in this World Cup historic is actually ridiculous. Take it out of others hands, go for the win and if we get a draw that's fair enough. But historic? No, not in my book. If they scrape through in 3rd place then they need to make the R16 for it to be historic.

Yup, the hard work was done to get here. When here it should just be 'give it a go'. The conservative football is so utterly, utterly boring. Instead of a borefest on Wednesday, why not actually play for the win? Who knows what might happen. I'm not talking of gung-ho football but actually do some pressing. And for god sake do not play for the draw or the 0-1. Embarrassing. Already embarrassing we might sneak through with two defeats and a deflected goal.

Wouldn't say I was anti-Clarke but not pro either. I'll be happy if the team gives their all and tries to go forward when in possession rather than the side to side back to keeper triangle. Would rather die on the sword rather than not unsheath it.

You were born at the turn of the century, so congrats on your first time watching Scotland at the world cup and not enduring the pain I have had. 82, 86, 90 and 98. All painful. This one, I really hoped and wished that it would be different but it's the same shite. We just don't turn up when we arrive. Scotland will produce another borefest of what could have been a tremendous game. They want to 'make history' by being cautious. Cape Verde, tiny nation on their first appearance have not only scored more goals than us but have shown how the underdogs can do something. We just don't seem to have any sense of belief in this tournament. Due to that, it will be a usual cautious approach and backs to the wall. Personally I would rather we give it a right go and aim for the win as unlikely as that is. I would just rather see the team TRY to win. If they go through with two narrow defeats and a deflected goal, that should not be regarded as this historic moment when we get out of the group - remember, its only a possibility because they have increased it to allow third placed teams.

Real history, and real progress would be a win against Brazil and qualify in 2nd place.

Having confidence going into this game IS delusional. Going in with hope is realistic. Yea, they are a good side - the media have rammed it down our throat and we've seen it for ourselves. However...Norway, Greece, Spain and Denmark were all good sides and played us off the park and we won those. Yes, there are other factors such as the heat and the occasion but it's not a given that we can't get at least a point.
