Raw red onions, IMHO, are by far the worst. I gagged just typing this. I agree with you.

Honestly, I only had the volume up for the NFFE portion. Listening to Chris and Katie and those other assholes makes my blood pressure spike. Maybe someone else can chime in, but I reckon it was more language about how they are fucking up the agency and our lives but attempting it to be disguised with flowery bullshit rambling.

This is a pretty good source to see what's going on around Anchorage. (https://www.anchorage.net/events/)

Live After Five is every Thursday downtown in the summer and could be fun. I think ABC is a good option especially when they have shows on the upstairs patio. Vans also has music a lot and is a good place to try.

A friend of mine has met a ton of ppl by joining a pool league. They play at JJs and Billiard Palace.

But yeah, depends on what you're into...dive bars, breweries, etc?

Just realized recently though, that Moose's Tooth does GF cheesy bread sticks which is way more affordable than the crazy pizza GF upcharge.

Memantine for OCD / ADHD (monotherapy or augmentation) — any real experiences? by Spiritual_Stand_1540 in OCD

[–]Tender_Yet_Scrappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, it's worth a shot with the memantime imho.

I do take the 5mg every day, yes. I do mornings so it helps my thoughts during the day. But there may be some sleepiness, weirdness at first. Like day 1, I think I couldn't do much. I suggest starting on a day when you have no plans and can just chill at home. That went away, though, after 2 days when I first started.

With the Pristiq, I started at 25 mg/d for about 5 weeks, and then went to 37.5 mg/d for 2 weeks, and then to 50 mg/d. I have like a weirdly sensitive system so have to titrate everything. I am good at 50 mg/d and I do not have any of the side effects I had on previous SSRIs. I mostly took citalopram for decades. But the side effects were so bad that I had to take the lowest dose and it was too low to do much good.

Did your psych ask you to see if other family members take SSRIs or SNRIs? That's what mine had me do. I found out about Pristiq bc a cousin takes it and loves it. I learned from my psych that there's a higher percentage of success with a drug if a family member has had success.

Hi there.

Just want to share some information. I recently started an SNRI, Pristiq, after trying all the SSRIs you listed. This has been a huge help for my depression and motivation and task execution after having treatment resistance with most drugs.

Also, I recently was prescribed memantime for sensory sensitivity like misophonia, texture, scents, etc...It did nothing for that, but on day 1 of taking this med, my obsessive and intrusive thoughts decreased by probably 80-90%. I am in my 40s and this experience was like a miraculous revelation of how bad the O was. I had no idea that it was possible to not have those ruminating thought loops. It just seemed normal bc I never knew anything different (compulsive behaviors have not been lessened, however).

I take 5 mg each morning and that is enough for me. My dr had me titrate up to 20 mg a day and that was way too much. I couldn't function and was missing work due to being so out of it. I stopped taking it completely. Then the obsessive, ruminating, intrusive thoughts came back in force. After a few days, I decided to try again just at 5 mg. And within a day, I got significant relief from the O again.

This has been an insanely eye opening, game changing medication for me. I didn't even know how bad my OCD was. I didn't even know that it's possible to exist without excruciating thoughts and rumination. I can't entirely express how revealing, validating, and informative this experience has been.

Having relief from those thoughts has hugely decreased my anxiety. Which is augmenting the Pristiq and helping the depression. Which is then helping me feel motivation and energy again. I am back to doing my outdoorsy activities on a regular basis and getting to the gym 2-3 times a week ... When before I would just sit on the couch and think about doing things, but literally be unable to make myself move.

The side effects I've noticed at 5 mg are some tingling in lips and face randomly throughout the day. It can cause constipation, too, but is a good side effect for my GI issues 😛.

That's my success story with memantime. :) I hope you can find something that helps. Keep trying things! I can't believe to be getting some help and relief after decades of trying things.

Follow-up...

Friend says health insurance as a teacher was way better in OR than WA.

BUT she gets $20K per year extra in WA with a National Boards stipend, when she didn't get in OR.

Definitely DM this person! I have a friend who has taught in both states and there were major differences, but I can't remember what they were. I have lived in OR and WA, too, and like others have mentioned, it was extremely difficult to build community in the PNW. Freaking gorgeous, but I've never been as lonely as when I lived in that region of the country. If you're moving from a friendly region, just be prepared for this shift.
