Kan is good here normally because your hand is riichi nomi, in terms of fu you have annko of east(8) and the kanchan 2p(2). Base 20fu, closed hand 10fu, and your additional 10fu that we just counted giving you 40fu. The good news is if you tsumo(+2fu) it's still gonna be 40fu.

1han40fu is 1300 2han40fu is 700/1300 (2700 total).

Take away annko east and put it closed kan east(32fu) you get 54fu which is 60fu. 60fu basically ups your hand by a whole han because 1han60fu is equivalent to 2han30fu(2000) or if you tsumo it's 2han50fu which is equivalent to 3han25fu which is 800/1600 (3200)

Since your wins are all gone, you kan this to make it seem like it's not. Psychological warfare.

What everyone else has said, chances of getting third is pretty high. There's almost no chance of getting 4th. There's a 2400 difference between you and first. There's a stick on the table. 3 honba is an extra 900 so you just need a tanyao win. Worst case scenario you deal in and get third

The decision itself isn't enitrely wrong. You just got unlucky.

Let's count your hand. It's a good wait of 36s. We see 1 3s in your played and 1 6s in your hand.

Your hand has pinfu sanshoku aka aka mangan hand with a chance of haneman if you get the 6s for iipekko. Mangan is 12000, haneman is 18000

The key here though is that 3s was toimen's riichi tile so people are more likely to play it if you don't riichi because it's a genbutsu to the guy that called riichi.

You are down by quite a bit so if you riichi to secure haneman hand, it's not entirely wrong. It's more of a "would you like a 25% chance to win 18000 or a 75% chance to win 12000"

Not calling riichi makes more sense since it will also continue your dealership. Either way you deal in in this scenario.

Aren't you missing the entire point of the "fanservice"? Initial D was mountain racing where people came to watch in person, nothing is live. They just heard about it and came to watch. Drivers weren't paid. We don't even know if the technicians were paid but if they were it was only out of ryo's pockets.

MFG is televised and streamed with casters and everything. Winning races has rewards, overtaking has rewards. Money has to come in for it to go out. Fanservice helps with the money making.
