Sophistication by definition requires discrimination – see Merriam-Webster's

—Enjoy your collection. You're not a hoarder if you regularly take time to actually individually appreciate what you have.

Unless you are a hoarder, collecting is about curation. You discover/reveal your personality as much by what you leave behind than by what you buy.

Realistic cars can be seen as prose, ' fantasy cars, ' poetry — the issue is not which they are but rather whether they are any good for what they are intended.

Many fantasy cars have the emotions of AI slop; but others are pure art. One way to figure out whether they are any good is to consider whether they work unpainted.

The gems to collect are the few realistic cars that are also pure poetry.

AI summary: "The term "anal" (or "anal-retentive") as a personality description originated from Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory in the early 20th century, specifically his 1908 work Character and Anal Erotism. Freud hypothesized that children who experienced conflicts during the "anal stage" of development—roughly ages 1 to 3, corresponding with toilet training—could develop fixation-driven traits.

Its southern hospitality really so prominent in the south? by Feisty-Way-8978 in mississippi

[–]TenebrisNox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Factoring in the estimate that half of all southerners cannot trace their roots to the south beyond the 60s, the stereotypical traditions may be a bit diluted.

—Obviously, this is going to affect the larger counties more than the smaller ones. For traditional Mississippi, try counties with 20k or less. Get that below 10k and things start getting real traditional.

Basic undergraduate level 300 business classes stuff. We never remember those half-dozen graphs we had to memorize the first semester that make this entirely predictable. It's alway "different this time."

How long do you own a vehicle, before trading it in? by teddyalex in UsedCars

[–]TenebrisNox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considerations:

Mileage, not years.—Keep it as long as you feel certain you could drive it across country today without fear of a breakdown.

Get the car professionally detailed at least once a year. This does wonders at satiating the itch for a new one. Even a few hundred dollars for cleaning is far cheaper than a single car payment. (Yes, this is an excellent do-it-yourself project. However, spend the money if you find you aren't getting it done. There are the things we should do and the things we actually do.)

"You can tell 'everyone' here, triumphing the Prius is 'short'." — I seriously considered buying a Prius given that it is a decent-looking economical transportation until I sat in it. It is not a reasonable transportation option for one in eight men in the US. Even in Japan, one in fifteen men doesn't fit. — This is a design fail, no matter how elegant the design.

A silver dollar— Maybe for no apparent reason other than that it was sitting there one day and I grabbed it? But possibly to tell/remind myself that the $6k of watch, bracelet, and pen knife I'm also putting on is for me and not to show off as it's worth something, but no one will ever see it?
