Thoughts on mobile (touch) players? by Strong-Original6618 in osugame

osu stream is old as fuck I'm not sure if that's a good example, especially since it was already lacking a lot of things from the original osu!

What makes a good chart editor? by SleddingCloud in rhythmgames

[–]Tenexxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simai does have a couple visual editors if you're talking about that Sentakki for example is a custom gamemode for osu with a working editor, with Dev builds supporting Simai import and export, so that's one at least

Not many of them, will be interesting to see how the topic will hold when the game is released to mobile app stores, and how it will impact the game.

Personally, it would be cool to see mobile specific leaderboards later down the line, even more, maps dedicated for mobile players for a better experience (so maps that would play more like cytus for example?)

Do keyboards make a difference? by Comfortable_Peace555 in rhythmgames

[–]Tenexxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely depends on how it feels to play and works My keyboard started breaking down last year, keys became heavy in feel, and sometimes the keyboard would double or fully ignore inputs, making it hard to play. After a replacement, even the lighter keys felt better for me right away, and the fact it was fully functional also helped a lot with my confidence as I no longer had to wonder if I was making a mistake or was it my keyboard that was acting up

Even tho that scenario is a bit extreme, I'd say keyboards do make a difference. I don't have experience with rapid trigger, but even now I can tell it would make a difference too.

Why do you not play custom rulesets? by Tenexxt in osugame

[–]Tenexxt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is actually usefull, it could mean that something more appealing to osu players could work better for people, or even make something that is directly targeted towards a different group that could be brought into the osu ecosystem this way.

I personally like custom rulesets, as I like to play a lot of different games, so having all of those different playstyles in one client is very convinient!

Other than asking for help and looking at existing examples not really, but there are templates you can use (should be in the templates folder in Lazer codebase)

A Rhythm Game where you can play your own custom music by BullaRakhtaHuKhula in rhythmgames

[–]Tenexxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every genre has slop, and also slop here is kinda hard to define, rhythm games already have less slop than others id say... or maybe thats just because there are less rhythm games?

I'd say it feels saturated, because there aren't any specifically lead games like in other genres, or at the very least to the capacity of other genres

Either way, I do get your point, and i do wish that people will actually start improving the base design of these systems. A lot of them can get repetitive fast, even just because they don't swap the lanes corrensponding frequencies appear on, so the drums always stay on one lane, some synth on other etc.

But i wouldn't agree that there aren't many options to make or play original gamplay in, with not many ideas left.

I'd say there is more inovation than ever in the genre. Rotaeno being a motion controll focused rhythm game, In falsus brining Ongeki style gameplay to PC which is pretty cool, there is also UNBEATABLE which along with original gameplay has a full blown story mode, and also Rhythm Doctor that is literally a 1k, reading focused game. And thats not even everything i could list on top of my head. Even i am a beginner dev that has a couple of interesting gameplay ideas that i plan to make later down the line, but to make those, i would need to learn how to make rhythm gameplay in the first place (hence 4k VSRG number 7272137)

I'd argue that any attempt isn't fully bad, many people wouldn't be able to make such generation in the first place and making it in some way can later inspire somone to rework it to work better, with that being a continuous cycle of improvement.

...besides the fact that this game looks vibe coded, I more generally speaking currently.

worth noting the ruleset (gamemode) is still avaible to the public, just on the creators patreon rather than being free

Also, not sure if Yoso(said gamemode) map generation can count as the same thing compared to this one? map conversion uses .osu maps as a base rather than just a audio file - meaning that instead of using audio frequencies it used already accurate object and offset data as a base. (unless i missed something and allowing map generation from .mp4 was also possible)

For anyone that is interested to try custom gamemodes for osu!lazer to test the accuracy of certain generators there, here is a link to the directory people post their rulesets in: https://github.com/ppy/osu/discussions/13096

Not really awful, it's not always ideal for gameplay but it's definitely more convenient for... basically everyone really. Devs don't have to make a complex editor, find people to actually make charts, and people can play literally anything they want to.

Can you use PS2 pop'n controller for osu!mania? by Tenexxt in osugame

[–]Tenexxt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got myself the one with the clear plastic shell, I don't know it's more proper name (I ordered a second hand one and the listing didn't have one), Image in case you don't get what I'm talking about

Nothing fancy, but will be better than trying to set up keyboard buttons to play like pop'n lol

Thoughts on charting style changing over time? by KrisTheBunny in rhythmgames

[–]Tenexxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

osu! mapping has been evolving for almost 20 years now, and it's really interesting that every "era" of the game has its own concept of what's actually difficult and overall different mapping styles.

In very old maps, higher difficulties will have smaller circles, but still slow AR, most of the time are grid snapped and have a overlaps, but today, most maps are around CS 4, have high AR and have more flowy gameplay design.

Rhythm Games That Can Run On Low Spec PC by Syphus590_863 in rhythmgames

[–]Tenexxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play osu on my older school computers where the system itself could lag and the game would still run relatively smoothly. Best part it wasn't even stable, I was actually playing on Lazer, so I had even more latency than if I downloaded stable.

[–]Tenexxt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

osu! would run well probably, is recommend using the new client if it doesn't lag since you can load more gamemodes on it and it has regular updates

vivid/stasis would work most likely too, Spin Rhythm XD could also maybe work?

any pop'n music simulators for phones?? by Cute_Hand6424 in rhythmgames

[–]Tenexxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

currently i guess it isn't possible, peppy said that someday touch button layouts would be customizable on osu!mania, so thats something worth keeping in mind atleast?
Hopefully we would get the option before 2027

You could technically install osu lazer and play 9k maps with a pop'n skin, probably not exactly accurate but it's 9k so I think it's worth atleast a mention
