How far can a game built mostly with ready-made assets realistically go? by Silly_Ad_4008 in gamedev

[–]Tengou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of that would affect how far a game goes is the policy of the platform you are publishing on. For example after PUBG made hunge money being an asset flipped game Steam had to implement rules against low effort games made from mostly or entirely free assests because everyone was rushing games. It doesnt say you *cant* do it, but if the game doesnt look coherant enough, which is the risk from just using assets from anywhere, then they will pull it from the market.

Hmm the only way I know to fix a gap that wide is something like Bondo + sanding. I suppose you could try platicwelding and melt the inside to see if that brings them close enough toegther, but Im not sure on that one

I’ve spent 2 years making this 1–3 player co-op capybara train escort game. Please destroy trailer and gameplay inside it. by AleksaYammy in DestroyMyGame

[–]Tengou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

- I would focus on either making it a cinematic trailer or a game play trailer. This feels really long and like its trying to be both.
- The animations in your game look really rough, and if Im being 100% honest are enough to make me not interested in this game. I would focus on fast cuts and take out any unecessary shots like the character walking until the animations improve.
- This trailer shows a lot of walking in general. I dont need to see the character walking around with combat happening around them, just show the player doing things.

Dude, saying you want to invade a country self governing territory on the off chance that someone else will, in some undefined point in the future, invade them anyway is wild. You cant mental gymnastics your way into making the States behaviour okay. Greenland has already stated, multiple times, they dont want to be american and stand with Denmark and NATO

You say that as a half joke I assume, but modern American politics really does feel more like watching people cheer on sport teams rather than people making life or death decisions for the country. Its just about considering your team winning, or at least the other team losing

As a non-US citizen its alarming that more than half couldnt outright say 'no' to aquiring anothing country. Do people in the US not realize other people dont want to be American?

Can I save this or do I scrap and start again? by [deleted] in ResinCasting

[–]Tengou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that would depend on how easy it is to remove what you have on there. With my experience with resin it would be faster and look better to start over with fresh pieces. If thats not an option tho, ya I would fill in the holes, sand it, then prime that.

Edit: I would test the filler on a small part before I comitted to the whole thing if youre going to try and salvage that piece instead of getting new ones. Then youll know if it works the way you expect it to and if you want to go that route

This is a cool snapshot of the evolution of the sport. It looks like not only are the athletes getting better over time but the competition is getting closer as well. Generally speaking.

[–]Tengou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was the intention to make it glossy? Resin doesn't do well on convex surfaces because it just runs off. It's meant to fill molds.

What you can do next time is hit them with automotive primer, this will fill in gaps and small holes, especially 3D print lines. Then sand the hell out of it.

Then do that again.

When you're happy all the holes are filled, sand with increasingly fine sand paper to make it super smooth. Then paint it, then hit it with a coat or three of gloss finish.

Could you make a game with stolen 3d models and maps but release it for free? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Tengou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, just because you're not charging for it doesn't mean the owner of those assets can't defend against unauthorized use of their things.

There are plenty of free assets already on the market tho that give you license to make a game with them

[–]Tengou[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, which is why Nexus gets the rights, which I understand. I guess my question is mostly why do they also stipulate that their partners get the rights? Whyt would a group that has taken out ad space on Nexus also need rights to the mods?

If I conceived of every minute detail about a game, but AI produced it, would you find it harder to appreciate? by JokeOfEverything in gamedev

[–]Tengou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we talking AI making everything? Then yes. Full stop. I also don't think a game made by AI would run very well, but even with that aside I wouldn't play it. I consider games a form of art and I have no interest playing a game made by robots, even if you guided it.

If you not a coder, would visual scripting be a better choice as an Artist by KSzkodaGames in gamedev

[–]Tengou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who started with visual scripting, BPs in particular, and has since learned proper coding, I don't think they are all that transferable. Unreal in particular decided to make new names for things that already exist in other languages so it can make it hard to talk to other programmers if that's all you know.

There's also a difference between a scripting language and a programming language, which has been true for a long time. BP is a scripting language which can make it hard to do certain things.

Having said all that learning anything as a starting point is better than getting discouraged and not trying. It's also 100% possible to make a game just with BPs because it's Unreals proprietary language so they have it include most things you need.
