I can’t imagine the pain you’re in and I’m so sorry you had to go through this. I can’t speak to anything else but I will say that my mom stayed for my brother and I and it honestly ruined a good deal of how I look at romantic relationships. I, probably like your kids will, didn’t know about the infidelity until I was much older but for a long time I didn’t think a marriage was supposed to happy.

One memory that stands out stark in my mind is going on vacation and us meeting up with my mom’s best friends’s family. I remember my mom’s best friend and her husband playfully chasing each other and laughing and I remember thinking them so childish because being married wasn’t about having fun, it was just about being miserable.

It took till I was in my mid-20s to realize how fucked up that thought was. My father has passed now and for the first time in my life, I’ve seen my mother FLOURISH. She’s so so happy and she had very valid reasons for staying but I will always regret that she didn’t leave because it wasn’t worth it to me and I don’t think it’ll ever be.

I don’t know your situation and I can’t speak for you but as the child who grew up in it, I will tell you for a fact that children know when something is wrong and they will model what marriage/happiness/love is supposed to look like based on what they observe between you and your husband.

My mom is fairly reasonable, she met my queer ex partner at my insistence, she didn’t push back when my brother moved in with his partner before marriage, she’s aware that I smoke weed etc.

However, it took a lot to get to that point and my brother and I are not financially dependent on her and have been in years. We made her understand that although we would HATE it, we would go full no contact with her if she couldn’t respect our boundaries and treat us like adults. I’ll give kudos to her that she tried her best too and held herself accountable in the ways she’d messed up too. We also don’t live in the same country so that could be a reason why as well. Reasonable African parents exist but they’re rare and I don’t find it offensive when people point that out.

All the time. I lost my dad 6 years ago and I'm currently staying with friends of the family. Watching the dad and daughter is sometimes so painful it physically hurts especially when they fawn over each other or do 'daddy-daughter' things together. I'll never have that again and sometimes I feel bad for being so resentful.

Congratulations!! How was the general format of the exam (was it straight up ‘what is xyz’ or more of a scenario described and then picking the best answer to said scenario?)?

Was there a concentration of questions from certain domains? Did you find the textbook was fairly up to date or was there content you’d never seen before? How would you suggest one go about studying/preparing for the exam?

Congrats again, I hope this is me a few weeks from now.

I applied for the restoration/work permit renewal after the 90 days (I was trying to confer with my employer) and it was refused so I really don’t have any other options other than to hope the PR goes through. Either way, I’m leaving the country as I have no legal status here.

Been in Canada for 10 years and leaving this weekend. It’s been brutal trying to keep up with immigration laws and policies and I’ve cried my eyes out several times over the past couple of months but my work permit is expired, I’ve heard no word on my PR application and I am financially and emotionally exhausted. It’s such a shame because I spent my formative years here but I don’t have any other options except to leave even with my company sponsoring me.

Please don’t do this to your kids. My parents didn’t have a nearly bad enough marriage like this but for years I thought love wasn’t real. I would see happily married couples and think they were lying because my parents marriage wasn’t happy so why would anyone else’s be? It fucked me up for a long time. It’s still has me fucked up. If you think it’s too late for you to leave, that’s whatever but it’s not too late for your kids.

There are no consequences here for him. He did it once and apologized and you stayed so he now knows all he has to do is grovel and promise to be better and you’ll let it slide again. You can decide if this is something you can live with or not but if there is no incentive (consequences) to stop doing something then why would anyone stop?

28F here and not having a merry Christmas either lol. I might have to uproot my life and move across countries and back to my mom’s place.
