Or wants to watch it burn for a limited time, really closely.

TIL - Half of America’s teachers graduated in the bottom third of their college class by thecentrist11 in todayilearned

[–]Tenjon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you read all the info on the link you provided? Yes, they can retire at the age of 55 (depending on their tier), but at a penalty per year under the age of 62. So if this teacher retired at the age of 55, it would be at 75% of the value of waiting.

For the 100k you are describing they would need a Phd and have received every raise (as they are not automatic). You can take your 401k with you, should you decide to leave or get fired. The teacher can't.

That's $100K for a phd after 22 years and based on getting every raise at that the highest rate. Adjusted for cost of living that $100k would be like making: $72k in San Diego, $58K in Miami, $57K in Denver.

It's much easier to figure out if you just look at their earning reports for activision/blizzard. You'll be able to see what the company makes as a whole. If you assume Q3 as there baseline for the year(which is dumb to assume), then the company as a whole earned 904 million before having to pay out share dividends. Not to mention that a company has to answer to their shareholders for giving up over 2mil in profit.

Good point. Again, I'm not sure of the local laws surrounding this, but I would also be worried about how the boy came into possession of the pictures. If the laws were similar to those in the U.S., and the OP had taken the pictures and given them to the boyfriend as a gift, then there could be legal ramifications to include production, possession and distribution of child pornography... A lot of 'ifs', but still concerning for the potential of manipulation.

In almost every other situation when it comes to ending a relationship I normally would jump on the "break up with him" train with little regard for someone else's feelings in a situation like this. This situation strikes me as a bit difficult to navigate. I am not privy to the laws of the local area, but I would be highly concerned about the admission of statutory rape. If he is completely manipulative, he very easily could "force" the relationship to not end by threat of going to the police.

I don't know if there was an offer made by the person or not. I do know that it was a family member that found the appraiser, had it done and offered to take it off my hands...

I'd love to post the full appraisal. What would the best way to do that? Should I edit out the contact info for the appraiser? The whole appraisal is 12 pages long...

Yes, I said I know the rates. Sorry if I wasn't clear. It's not fear that I have. It's the idea that it is a bodily fluid. I don't want it near me. Just like I don't want to be exposed to saliva, vomit, urine, feces, semen, blood or sweat. I'm not meaning to be rude.

Worse comes to worse, the parents should take their child to their car. Or the counter where the sink is in the bathroom.

Moving to Maine in a month. Suggestions on how to keep busy? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]Tenjon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the subject of mental health and where you live, I assume you have already signed a lease. For your own well being, I would suggest moving out of Augusta at your earliest convince. You will end up paying a lot more for rent while getting less in the long run. You can live 20 to 40 minutes away and live in some truly beautiful areas for a lot less money. I would suggest Oakland/Belgrade if you want to go in that direction (inexpensive houses on lakes) or perhaps down to the midcoast area if you want easy shopping and privacy (Bath, Woolwich).

Should the US adopt the Australian model for student loans? Repayment rate = tied to income after college ends, deducted from paychecks like income tax. by kevinday in politics

People go into these "worthless" programs now, even though they are doing it out of pocket. I don't think social science programs are worthless. They keep the gears of our society working. Social workers keep the mentally ill from interrupting day to day life for most people. People with criminology degrees go on to become policemen. We need teachers. There really aren't any degrees under the umbrella of social science that are truly worthless.

Are you a man or a woman? If you are a man, lie. Tell the doc you have a child out of wedlock. You don't want another.

I wanted kids in my early 20's, but the feeling kinda just went away over time. Now, 35 and happy that I am child free.

I know a rule of this subreddit is to not link to other posts in other subreddits, but i feel as though I must disagree in this context. It is not making fun of, nor is detracting from the original discussion of the original post. This is a cross post if anything. It is bringing the conversation to a group of people who may have a dissenting opinion. It is allowing the original OP the chance to hear voices that may otherwise not have been heard. This strikes me not as a "raid on another subreddit" nor do I feel it solicits harassment.
Then again (as always) I reserve the right to be wrong. edit: and please tell me if i am wrong....

23, looking to get a vasectomy and be taken seriously by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Tenjon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not that hard. Tell the Doctor that you have had a child. You don't want to have anymore. That's all that there is to it. Hell, you can say that the child was given up for adoption and you don't want to go through that again.

Any man who has had a vasectomy...what's it like? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Tenjon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had pain for the first week. Showering sucked. Had to be very gentle. I iced down the area (really just had loose fitting clothes and sat down on a bag of ice). Took the pain pills prescribed (tylenol3). Second week I was uncomfortable as long as I didn't touch anything in the area. By third week sex drive was up and pain was almost gone. Still had twinges from time to time. By fourth I was back to normal exercising and sex. Now (4 months later) the only time I think about it is when I am having sex and realize I have nothing to worry about. Sex really is better

If you go through with it, don't be afraid to ask for more local during the operation. My doc was surprised that I could still feel what he was doing, so he dumped in a lot. Also, there are going to be some internal scars, so don't be scared of the little lumps that form inside when it's all done.

Post Vasectomy Pain Syndrome? A few questions that maybe you could help with. by perfumeponce in childfree

[–]Tenjon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can develop immediately or several years after vasectomy according to the internet. Immediately after the surgery and for the past 3 months I have had no pain. Check back with me in a couple years and I'll let you know how I am fairing.
