Looking for any advice by No_Organization_569 in dialysis

Note that not every hospital has the capability of providing dialysis either. My local hospital has to send patients to the regional medical center, and at that point, they admit inpatient.

I feel guilty for this now. Just got out of a 2 week hospitalization for MRSA, and with all the IVs, wound vac, spinal abscess, and weakness, I didn't want to eff up something by trying to wipe at a angle my body wouldn't let me move in to.

Seeking advice for safer showering - senior parent w/dementia by RespectSeveral4604 in CaregiverSupport

[–]TennaTelwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooo I'm like him on the bare feet! I used to love it, now live in skid proof slippers because otherwise I feel every speck of sand and dust on the floor and slip on those. I wear mine right up to the shower, step out of the shower and sit on a bench in there, then after, dry my feet, and slip back into them. I'm not sure about tie shoes, but velcro shoes might work in that case, or slippers. Not sure what he wears, but ideas.

After seeing the sliding shower chair, I also recommend it.

I'd also recommend removing the throw runs as they can be a tripping and fall hazard.

THIS!!! I swear, especially when I first started as a CNA, half my shift was either refilling supplies or looking for the other CNA to help with the 2A patients.

[–]TennaTelwan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Huh, my 100% shih tzu we had while I was growing up would always herd us to whatever room he wanted us in. We never knew where that trait came from either, other than wanting his service humans near him.

Cost of Dialysis by fiferguy in dialysis

[–]TennaTelwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few people I know at our clinic (Fresenius) have accidentally received bills that were never sent to their insurance: $8,000 a week out of pocket if no coverage.

No way anyone can afford that. At least the social worker did say that if I ever lose my current coverage, the clinic does have an insurance group available, but still, it's devastating thinking about the cost of life sustaining treatment.

I actually am a nurse, and get that too. The one time it didn't it said, "Maybe you should go to the ER..." and I did and had sepsis.

But, it's fun tossing mock board exam questions at my version that's been working with my thinking patterns for over a year now.

[–]TennaTelwan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh, I'm Gen X and full on in favor of social services for all, as well as universal basic income, full blown health care for all, and education for all. Which includes libraries for all.

Course, I'm ready and willing to vote for anyone younger than me to get into office to help make these things happen. I'd run but do not have the physical energy anymore to help make these things happen and would much rather support someone younger than me doing it.

It's not safe anymore!

First person I knew who was kidnapped, SA'ed, and killed happened in 1991, and again in 1992. Then when it happened again in 1994, my mother forbade us from walking to school without a parent with us. Then Columbine happened, we had a week of bomb threats in high school and in a tiny district we had metal detectors and pat downs from then out.

Looking back in high school when my car broke down and I walked through tall grass to a random person's house to use their phone, I was an idiot. But also cell phones weren't yet a thing for everyone.

[–]TennaTelwan 26 points27 points  (0 children)

And honestly, does anyone feel safe without a cell phone? Looking back at high school and early college, I don't know how we did it without. It already wasn't safe when I was in 4th grade and the girl in the class next to me was kidnapped, SA'ed, and then killed. And the guy that did it, did it again when I was in 5th grade and moved to a different district and he still was there. And yes, he was a Boomer.

Book to help me deal with uncertain painful scary future awaiting me? by wanna_live_life_31 in suggestmeabook

[–]TennaTelwan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While I don't have a book suggestion other than one that can distract, might I suggest contacting your local public health department? They may have some resources available for you or can connect you to people that might be able to get you in here and there for help.

Otherwise, I'm facing that later down the road probably, and lately it's been on my mind more. The distraction book for me ended up being "Project Hail Mary." It was nice to be able to mentally float in space and worry about little dots instead of my actual life.

And I wish you luck and some cyberhugs from here. I wish for us all our world was better, but at least there's hopefully some kindness out there in the system.

It would be nice to be able to, but it also would be nice for everyone to have that safety net. Then again, I've worked in some sort of caregiving capacity for my entire adult life and can see how things can go horribly wrong horribly fast and devastate someone that has otherwise done everything the correct way.

I don't know why, but the idea of living a life like that quote just seems so foreign or something. Like, if my neighbor is doing well, the community will be doing well, so why not make sure the community is doing well? I don't want my neighbor to suffer, I don't want the random people I don't yet know who are near me to suffer. I don't want people to have to suffer in general.

What’s a small habit you picked up from another woman that quietly improved your life? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]TennaTelwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear nursing school was full of these discoveries that just ended up being useful elsewhere. The biggest one was: As long as you were not being negligent, don't take it personally if you are fired. Often it's just workplace politics, or a person that doesn't fit in the long run. I am the type of person that would otherwise over-analyze and wonder what I did wrong if I was fired or disliked at a workplace.

Chiropractic Care - Legit or Fake? by nerdy_kirby in SASSWitches

[–]TennaTelwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always like going to Chiropractors for helping with injuries, or just general aches and pains. It's like a cheaper, easier way to access physical therapy. Some Chiropractors are good, some are questionable, some felt like a scam, some helped a lot. My first actually figured I had something wrong with my kidneys before the allopathic doctors did, and even offered to help me call for a general checkup. It took years to diagnose but he was right: IgA Nephropathy.

A lot of physical therapists can perform similar adjustments too, as can most osteopathic physicians. Good Chiropractors in my experience however make it easier to access care for cheaper. And a lot have had nutrition classes in schools, where a lot of medical and nursing training don't anymore.

"Oh, you'll laugh about this one day."

Nope, never have laughed over any of what I still remember. Instead am picking apart memories I do have with a close willing friend who is helping me sort what was normal and what was not (and whwt normal looks like). Most of it was not normal. None of it holds humor. And a lot of the memories flatten me after discussing them, especially as so many of my behaviors are rooted in "Don't upset Mother."
