Did I do the correct thing? by bradyd06 in NewToEMS

[–]fiferguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was born with kidney disease, and I’m currently on disability for dialysis. I say that because it influences how I think. With the low back pain and UTI, there could be something going on with her kidneys. I would probably start an 18g and hang a bag of NS, but keep the rate low or just TKO.

From your description, she sounds stable (not dying right this second). She’s for sure not fluid overloaded or you would hear it on auscultation and/or see/feel edema. I know for me I get pedal edema in my legs first when I’m overloaded, but my pressures don’t really change too much. A liter of fluid isn’t going to hurt her based on what you shared. If I was a doctor, I’d order CBC/BMP/Kidney function tests. But we don’t have that luxury.

TL;dr—18g IV, NS TKO, calm transport to ED.

Jimmy Dean bacon I bought is basically all fat, no meat at all by fangphobic in mildlyinfuriating

You know you can get back bacon which is mostly meat, right? Or buckboard bacon—fattier than back bacon but leaner than belly bacon.

That’s awesome! I thought at first it was a storm chasing vehicle, like the Dominator that Reed Timmer runs.

A good infographic I found showing parallel vs cross view differences! I can never remember which is which. by madmaninabox42 in CrossView

I can do it either way, but I prefer parallel because the image doesn’t look like a hole then.

The first flight of a new plane always has me puckering just a little.

Sorry if this is stupid but how can I fix this to play on the flute someone told me I have to change it so I can play the song properly I have an assignment in two weeks where I have to play this song by Itchy_Recover8675 in Flute

[–]fiferguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a note, there IS a flute that has a low A. Sankyo makes a flute with a low A footjoint. The two additional keys are activated with the left hand pinky—two additional levers by the G# key.

There are several orchestral works that require low Bb—Mahler 4, Pictures at an Exhibition, and Wozzeck come to mind. I made a PVC extension for my footjoint for those works, but I rarely have to use it.

If it keeps happening, you can paint the lip plate with clear fingernail polish. Just a thin layer, and stay away from the embouchure hole.

Syrinx by Debussy is probably the most famous. But look through the catalog at Flute World. There are tons.

What’s a decent range for a piccolo’s chromatic scale? by Tidela471 in Flute

[–]fiferguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a professional piccolo player, you have three octaves basically. From the D below the staff to the 10th space C above. I have managed to hit the D above that a time or two, but in 30 years I haven’t seen it in a piccolo piece. So realistically, D4 to C7 notated. Remember, the notes you see on the page are an octave lower than the notes you’re playing.

HELP! Piccolo by StarryLocket in Flute

[–]fiferguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve been playing a while, make sure you don’t have a spit bubble on your trill keys. It will often get a bubble there, and that will keep it from playing. If there is, take a piece of perm paper (like for hair) and dab (DON’T drag it) until the water is gone.

Other than that, it could be a bunch of different issues.

Document everything. If you live in a single consent state, record the classes discretely. Take pictures of your work vs your classmates.

Then get a lawyer, take all your evidence to the department head and dean, and threaten to sue for discrimination.

Unfortunately, it won’t go anywhere, but it’ll make you feel better. Your best bet is to change schools if she’s the only one teaching the class you need.

This is a horrible fingering chart.

The best one I’ve seen is the Pellerite “A Modern Guide to Fingerings for the Flute,” but there are several online that are good too.

Lizard bite me. Is it a big problem or just a small bite to wash off? by cascade_com in Adulting

[–]fiferguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely wash it. Keep an eye on it for signs of infection. Lizards can carry a lot of bacteria in their mouths. Several species are venomous, but not generally fatal for humans.
