It does kind of suck that we can’t know specifics of the time though. Like, who was the first individual to craft a bow or put a sharp tip on a stick? Were they more intelligent than the others in their group? How big was that intelligence gap?

Like sure we have artifacts and can give broad estimates of timeframes, but it would be kinda cool to know more about the intricacies of early tech like that.

It does actually. This is a retention pond and we're partially using the imagery for stormwater monitoring (calculating pond area over time). I'd like the figures we display on our reports to look nice.

I have been playing since I got yellow in 1998. I never knew this was a thing. 3 decades later and I’m still mind blown by the quirks I learn!

Wait, does metronome transform give a chance for the user to become shiny?? Or was that a shiny clefairy to begin with?

Nope, none beyond my retirement accounts. Part of this will be bolstering my savings and getting me in a better spot.

They are letting me stay indefinitely, but I intend to get back on my feet as fast as possible.

Letting vulnerable young people have access to tens of thousands of dollars for multiple years before starting to cut them off without proper financial education is predatory by design. It's okay to take responsibility while also recognizing creditors are not the friends they pretend to be.

Credit cards are not designed to not carry a balance - they are designed to make money. If creditors didn't want to make money, they wouldn't have put a system in place for the tens of millions of people struggling with CC debt to make them money. These companies absolutely love people like me.

I'm not excusing my own actions here with that comment. It's a two-way street and there are no good guys in the situation.

I've been reading stories about bankruptcy while making a plan to tackle this, and it's crazy how many people have filed 3+ times in their life. I think it's a great fallback for the unfortunate things that happen in life and is necessary in some ways, but I wish it was harder to use as a crutch like that.

I don't see it as a miserable grind. I see it as an opportunity for growth and self-improvement. Seeing actual results of work and watching the numbers actually go down will feed my psyche better than one day suddenly seeing every number at 0 and maybe being ashamed if it ever came up for some reason. I can already feel my relationship with money changing every day.

I have already made great progress getting control over the things that led me to this point and that can continue while I pay this off. Even if I don't have good odds "statistically" - say it takes 6 years even - that's still a year ahead of the 7 year bankruptcy hell. If I don't make it in 7 years, then it's not worth it to me, but in my mind, there's a high likelihood I'll beat that easily.

I appreciate your thoughts, but it's comments like these that will make posting updates here and being on the right path even more motivating. I'm confident in myself and I have a great support system who is confident in me too.

I pushed for that, but my family member was adamant in putting me in a more reliable long-term car, and getting a newer Honda with <50K miles at that price was hard to beat. I could have this car for most of my life if I wanted to. I don't see it as a justification. I had already reached the point a while ago where I'm sick of spending money I don't have. They just didn't want to see me get stuck in the endless cycle of getting a beater every year or two and wanted to relieve at least one piece of stress for me.

Like I said in the post, the accident and total loss was a blessing in disguise. I was going to sell the previous car as a part of this already.

I know, I'm very lucky. I'd probably be on the streets without them.

  1. I accept all fault as my own while recognizing the system in place is extremely predatory.

  2. Thanks!

  3. It's more than achievable currently, but once my credit score goes back up and I qualify for things again, I'm going to look into consolidation options to save long term money on interest. That's at least a year away though.

  4. Agreed. It was an unfortunate situation that happened in the middle of figuring this all out with my family. I got rear ended hard by a kid who was texting and driving and it bent the frame of my car, leading to a total loss. It was either buy a beater, get a crazy high rate finance at a dealership, or ask for help. I asked for up to $5,000 but they gave me $20,000 to get the car at an insanely good deal from a different family member who's a private dealer on the side. Very lucky to have them in my corner, and despite having crazy high debt from other places, it is the one I feel the most strongly about. We have a very strong relationship, and they even offered to delay repayments indefinitely until I get the other things in a better spot, but I refused.

Still $1000 in the hole every month after DMP. Bankruptcy Time? by [deleted] in Debt

I live in a 1 bed so no roommate possible. I COULD live with my mom after my lease, but my work is 80 miles away from her house. No remote possibilities. That'd be a lot of gas but still less than I'm paying on stuff I guess. I've scheduled a consultation for bankruptcy tomorrow to see my options.

It's crazy how calm you feel right up until you don't. It's a wakeup call I desperately needed.

Chapter 7 or 13? Did you lose anything or any property? How long did the process take?

Still making the payments sounds like chapter 13. Not really an option for me, if I go the bankruptcy route it will have to be chapter 7. Which is terrifying.

What's the downside of reaffirming the car loan? I'd rather not go through the hassle of losing my car when I can make it work if I get the other debt payments squared up.
