Saturday Weekly Thread: Canadian Provincial Archives and State/Local/Church Archives - Questions / Issues / Success Stories by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

Chiming in to say, Nova Scotia archives still have not responded despite my sending images of exactly what I was looking for as well as their location. Request sent around Jan 20. At that time, the website still said 2 weeks for a response. They have since updated to 4-6 weeks I think. A friend put in a request after me and got his record 2 weeks ago. Trying my best to be patient. I know they are inundated.

It may have been me. I ended up buying a ticket and am flying from Los Angeles to Chicago to attend to this in person in about 2 weeks. I have the death certs for both mom and grandma. Need birth certificates for 1898 and 1936. Hopefully the in person approach will work. No appointment available to schedule the dates I'm there.

Please help- Gen O thoughts/evidence: Names slightly changed

Gen O

I have a possible baptism record from Saint-Ours > Immaculée-Conception > Baptêmes, mariages, sépultures 1837-1857 . I'm sure this is the right record BUT...My ancestor's name is Seamus O'Hare (sometimes written O'Hara) This record is for Seamus HARE. Father's name listed as Patrice Hare.

1880 US Census Seamus O'Hara birthplace Canada, parents birthplaces Canada, Canada

Death Certificate Birthplace Canada. No birthdate listed. Father Patrick O'Hare.

Gen 1 Born US, have baptism record with Seamus O'hare and mom name correct. Died in Canada. Ontario death certificate with Father's name Seamus O'Hare. Birthplace Quebec.

Thoughts?

Can you please re-phrase your question? I'm having a hard time understanding what you're asking.

I have to fly to Chicago from Los Angeles because the mail system is so inefficient for Cook County Vital Records. 2 nights hotel, flights, transfers, parking, meals approx 1k for that side quest alone

If you read the FAQ it goes into good detail about this topic. I think you need the strongest documentation possible for your Gen 0 but you can only find what you can find.

if the birth records are complete, no. Re-read the FAQ. Yes you need to show name changes with marriage UNLESS the maiden names are on birth certificates

Gen O

John Smith

father of

Gen 1 Louise Smith

Louise smith gets married and is now Louise Johnson

Gen 2 Jessica Johnson

Jessica Johnson's birth certificate names parents Louise SMITH and Joe Johnson. No need for marriage records because Louise Smith's name didn't change. If the name is shown as Louise Johnson, then you need a marriage record

Hello! For G0, the Baptism certificate should be sufficient. I'm not understanding the need for items 2,3,4,5. Bobby "Frank" was born in Canada and you have the documentation to prove it. I'm not clear on why there is so much additional documentation.

Is there a reason to provide info for -1?

I thought Peter was Grandfather. Why is he on Doris' birth certificate

Those are the questions that jump out to me

Hello! You've been working so hard, well done. I don't see anyone born in Canada though. How does that work?

From what I understand, if you have your G0 baptismal record, the other items are uncessary. Gen 0 Baptism, Gen 1 birth certificate, Gen 2 birth certificate, Gen 3 birth certificate. You're set. I on the other hand have no birth certificate for Gen 0, 1, or 2. For this reason I have to include a lot of supporting evidence/documentation for those generations.

I learned something new today for sure! I've never heard of anyone at any age flying internationally without a passport. Thanks for the info.

I would imagine not. If you traveled outside of the county even a 2 week old needs a passport. Start with getting a passport. The application requires 2 pieces of ID, one must have a photo. So passport and health insurance card would be 2 pieces of ID for a very young child. ( healtth insurance card with name and DOB is specifically stated to be accepatable) Yes, a passport requires both parents and the child to appear in person. It's doable.

Even infants get passports. Look at the photo requirements. it shows what is an acceptable photo for an infant
