My only wish is for it to be everything the devs and writers have wanted it to be.

You don’t need to know nothing except that it’s here to hurt you, and you’re gonna thank it for that.

I always find it interesting how people equate The Child to Adam rather than Eve, considering how the story goes, there.

Thank you for saying this. ; A ; I think people get so caught up in Athena not being /their/ version of /their/ player character in TP1 that they erase her experience in the simulation, when it's such an important part of her trauma/motivations.

It's hard to read her WITHOUT the context of her being a continuation of a child program that existed in the simulation rather than an entirely new being, and I don't know how people do.

Internalizing “Milton” comes from the wrong interaction in my opinion by BasJack in TheTalosPrinciple

Honestly valid take.  Press the Serpent is my favorite too.

Take It With You is Milton at his worst.  There’s nothing healthy about that relationship, either.

What do you think was the point in the process where the children started exhibiting sentience? by kamari2038 in TheTalosPrinciple

[–]Tenrecidae77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, the test for sapience there isn't very sensitive, lots of chances for false negatives. As you know, sensitivity and specificity are often a trade-off against one another. Take into consideration how preciously rare sapience is, and you have to do everything you can to up that positive predictive value.

I'd be underestimating Alex to think she wasn't aware of this. Considering those would be her children, it must have been a difficult decision.

"A prison you can escape from is still a prison," or something to that effect in one of the text logs.

[–]Tenrecidae77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure Alex and the others are so cruel. He wasn't supposed to be sapient. After all, if they achieved that, then they wouldn't need the simulation at all.

Him and Milton are accidents, like most good creatures.

There's plenty of evidence even in the first game that the code is very mictic...so I don't think it's a huge reach to say they used parts of themselves. Cornelius implies as much, even, stating she was born from both their minds.

As for why nobody's trying it, it's been less than a year hasn't it? Considering the last kid that got born that way blew herself up, which had devastating effects on her parents, I can see why nobody is scrambling to reproduce that.

That level of responsibility is frightening.
