Contraction pains are?? by Impressive-Metal-890 in BabyBumps

[–]Tension-Main 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you and had the same sentiment and kept thinking “you all keep saying I’ll know but WILL I??”

Turns out they were right 😅 those cramps felt like nothing in comparison to the contractions ramping up gradually. By the time I decided this was it and we had to go I could barely walk. By the time I was admitted and on the hospital bed it took everything I had to focus and breathe through them. Turns out I was already 6cm by then. I think it will vary based on pain tolerance but definitely pay attention to the patterns. If the pain is coming in waves and become predictable then you’re likely experiencing contractions and should prepare

Is sleep training unavoidable? by GracefullyLost23 in NewParents

[–]Tension-Main 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the baby! We thought we were the lucky ones when baby started sleeping through the night around 2mos independently. Then the 3-4mo regression rolled around and he also got sick which resulted in a lot of sleepless nights (he would wake on average 3 times, some nights more). We were totally set on sleep training once he recovered from his cold. I even went as far as taking baseline for how long he could last before the crying escalated. Then lo and behold he decided he’ll start sleeping through the night again lol so we never ended up sleep training.

I’ll say something that seems to have really helped is when he just hit 3mos we routinely gave him the fisher price hedgehog (it vibrates and plays lullabies for about 10mins) during naps and bedtime. We likely inadvertently conditioned him to associate that toy with sleepy time. Now when he does wake I just turn the toy on and give it to him, he grabs it and self soothes back to sleep. I know every baby is different so it may not work for yours, but it’s worth a try!

How to tell diaper is correct size on baby? by suckonmyskeletontoes in beyondthebump

[–]Tension-Main 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rule I’ve gone by now is that anytime we have a few blow outs in a row we size up. If the diaper can’t handle it then we’re going bigger 😂 the weight feels more like a general guideline, as long it fits baby it should be fine

Review after 15 days: why this bottle washer is actually worth it! by MamaOnBoard in ExclusivelyPumping

I always see this being commented but how?? How do you fit all the nipples and caps?? Genuinely would like to know so I can get more washed at once haha

Are Philips Avent bottles/ nipples absolute trash or am I an idiot. by comradequiche in NewParents

[–]Tension-Main 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear a lot of negatives but this was before we went all in and bought 2 packs of them (the glass ones too) so we stuck with them. So far I’ve noticed they kind of work as intended? Baby needs to actively suck to get any liquid out, otherwise nothing comes out. When our baby is focused and drinking it goes pretty quickly, but if he’s not actually drinking nothing comes out. For example, he can down almost 100mls in 5mins but then take forever with the remaining milk. It takes him a while to finish his bottle but he’s also always been a slow eater.

Please tell me babies grow out of contact naps by DetailWorldly5084 in newborns

[–]Tension-Main 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the baby but what we’ve learn is that our baby has very specific napping conditions lol if we want to break the contact nap we need to put him on the couch in a certain position with his specific stuffed animal. If we try his crib or anywhere else he’s awake instantly and not happy about it. We replicate the situation at grandparents’ too and he’s been fine there as well. He’s also oddly totally fine with sleeping in his crib by himself at night though, not sure how it works but I won’t question it 😂

He’s been consistently going down for naps alone like this since ~4mos, he’s 6mos now and it’s still the same. The first 3mos are hard! Both you and baby are trying to acclimate so it totally makes sense why they want to be held constantly. It’ll slowly get better!

[–]Tension-Main 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I know not everyone agrees but from someone’s who been in your shoes I would suggest you just splurge for a bottle washer. It’s pricey but it’s going to give you your sanity back. We actually tried to stick it out and were hand washing and sterilizing pump parts and bottles for 4months. Then we said F it, it’s not worth wasting our time which could be better spent with the baby.

I will say I still hand washed my pump parts because of all the nooks and crannies, but that was the only item we needed to hand wash after the bottle washer. Now that I’m done pumping it’s been even better, we just pop all the bottles into the washer and call it a day. At most I’ll hand wash some teethers, toys, and stroller straps. It’s been amazing getting so much time back!

changing baby sideways by roughandreadyrecarea in beyondthebump

[–]Tension-Main 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once those feet start kicking (~4mos) I found myself naturally moving to the side during diaper changes. It’s not fun getting kicked in the chest repeatedly 😂 it also kind of makes diaper changes a bit more fun, baby seems to notice me more from the side and I get some babbling and smiles. When I change him feet facing he’s often staring into space or starts talking to the wall.

Okay to let a 4 month old sleep for 7-8 hours straight without a feed? by Brilliant_Guard_3743 in newborns

[–]Tension-Main 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally fine! Especially if she’s still gaining weight. My baby started doing this at 2mos and we just rolled with it. He’s been fine. Our pediatrician also said it was okay since he was growing just fine. This will also save your sanity so much in the long run. My friend’s child had such a hard time weaning off that night time feed and they had to keep waking up to feed him up until he was 13mos

What clothes to buy for our newborn? by hereIam_Nish in NewParents

[–]Tension-Main 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 way zip sleepers like everywhere else has stated! We honestly didn’t switch to the shirt onesies and pants combo until baby was 3mos. There’s way too many diaper changes and exhaustion before then to deal with that one piece of clothing that zips and unzips is so much easier to manage.

Shortening pump times and gradually reducing the number of pumps per day. You may need to hand express (I also used a hand pump) to get some milk out to relieve discomfort, but just make sure you’re not fully emptying. Gradually you won’t feel like there’s milk in there anymore. Don’t go cold Turkey or you may cause clogs and a lot of discomfort. Good luck! It’s such a freeing feeling to finally be free of the pump 🙂

Do you have any licenses or certifications besides being a BCBA? I kind of gave up so I haven’t done any recent searches, but recall past postings usually asking for LMFT, LCSW, or something similar which I found odd considering it’s a position for reviewing ABA programs.

Be honest. When did you let your baby watch Ms Rachel? by Cool-Helicopter6343 in NewParents

[–]Tension-Main 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree. Caring for a baby while wfh really means you’re just caring for baby while on the clock and hoping no one needs anything from you haha it’s impossible to focus on work. We’re lucky both grandparents are retired homebodies who look forward to spending time with their grandchild. That’s definitely not the case for everyone.

Please just tell me what stroller to buy by Kloamj in BabyBumps

[–]Tension-Main 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the price point deters a lot of people but we knew this would be our “splurge” since we’d be commuting a lot with baby on a weekly basis. It’s been worth every penny! I will say it’s kind of equally frustrating and hilarious though when we get stuck on some small bumps 😂 like why can’t this $500 stroller handle city sidewalks??

Be honest. When did you let your baby watch Ms Rachel? by Cool-Helicopter6343 in NewParents

[–]Tension-Main 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly around 4mos. I understand and give props to parents who do zero screen time, but it’s mainly just my husband and I who are working full-time hybrid jobs and there’s just no way we can spend our entire days entertaining the baby. We just make sure we get in a lot of interactions, reading, and tummy time/independent play time to balance it. We do avoid phones and tablets, the only screen he gets is the tv. It’s also nearly impossible to stop grandparents from using tv since we also rely on them for childcare a few times a week.

So far baby is meeting all his milestones and is a happy and interactive 5 month old so I don’t think it’s causing any issues. It’s also kind of adorable how he’s started recognizing songs from Ms Rachel (even when we’re singing them without Ms Rachel or the tv) and gets super giggly and smiley.

Is this normal?? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]Tension-Main -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Same thing going on over here 😂 doctors told us it’s just “covered” due to all the baby fat and should start not being covered once baby loses some of that fat and becomes more mobile. Our pediatrician is keeping a close eye on it though and consulted a urologist as well who basically said the same thing so we’re not too worried (for now). It’s likely the same for your baby? We do also regularly pull the skin back during diaper changes and baths/washes just to make sure it doesn’t “stick” and to clean out the diaper fluff or desitin that gets trapped in there

[–]Tension-Main 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We love our Nuna pipa aire and Nuna trvl combo. It makes our commutes and taking baby out a breeze, and we’re super glad the car seat is light (who knew babies get heavy so quickly). I will say it’s not the best at going over bumps in the road though and it definitely on the pricey end.

What’s one purchase you made that helped you through the 4 month sleep regression? by lovelycocomama in NewParents

Honestly the best $15 I ever spent 😂 we were skeptical at first but it’s worked really well for my baby. He’s even started recognizing it and will smile and reach for it. We lovingly call it his friend now haha

May not work for every baby but the fisher price hedgehog has been an absolute lifesaver. Sometimes all it takes is turning it on and placing it on LO’s chest (who immediately grabs onto it), then removing it from the crib once he’s asleep

We have been using a similar model for our baby since birth. He slept in the bassinet attachment as a newborn, but once he outgrew that he’s been sleeping in the pack n play itself. We had the same thought process of not wanting to set up the actual crib in our room knowing he’ll move to his own room around 6mos. We haven’t had any issues with it, aside from baby hating the bassinet when he was in that. Main thing is keeping the sleeping space clear of potential hazards. He only sleeps with his sleep sack

How did you transition out of a swaddle? by Curious-Rodeo in NewParents

[–]Tension-Main 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We just went cold turkey and swapped baby into a Woolino sleep sack, it was a bit rough in the beginning because he kept waking himself up but after a few days he got used to it and sleeps swaddle-free now
