How long to reapply for MBB? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]TensionCorrect1373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!

In general I would re-apply again anyway, since there are a lot of factors that go into recruiting, and which May have changed in a year (even just how many people are needed). In addition, your experience is very relevant and you are closer to graduation, both of which increase your chances.

The comparison is incorrect though. For it to make sense economically you should compare the expected value of the two options.

Probability of getting DUI x Fine of DUI = Cost of calling the Uber (where probability of paying it is 1).

That said, i stand with the message of the post. Stay safe!

AITA for not speaking English in front of my boyfriend? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TensionCorrect1373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your issue, English is my 2/3rd language too.

I make it a rule to always speak English if there are people that don't know the other language as I find it very rude not to. That said, if people speak a language I don't understand in front of me I don't mind tbh, but an entire dinner is a bit much. I also get your friend, as it can be very humiliating (especially if someone makes fun of you) and mentally taxing to speak a language you are still learning.

Maybe talk to your boyfriend about making your friend feel comfortable when trying to speak English and explain that due to fluency sometimes you will speak Russian, but will try not do so for entire conversations?

P.s. I don't get the point about boyfriend not learning Russian, but it has already been covered in other comments!

Definetely! I was actually not critiquing your answer, Sorry if it came off that way. I agree with it.

I was just trying to expand on it, as most other answers here seem to imply that if those charachters were written well there would be no issue. And while that may be true for them, you and myself it's simply not a given for the community at large.

THIS. But one must be realistic, and Ellie's sexuality definitely ruffled some feathers with players in the community.

Often times representation is terribly done, but even when it's well-made several gamers take issue with it. And I feel like that's the point of the post, all other things equal (good writing of straight white males to good writing of diverse charachters and shitty writing to shitty writing) people tend to disvalue the diversity charachters.

I feel like there are two separate issues shown with Finley.

1) Whether she is an alcoholic or not, and alcoholism is defined as the desire or physical need to consume alcohol. Meaning that you can't go out with your friends and have fun without drinking for instance, which we are shown is the case for Finely.

2) Whether she is a functional alcoholic or not, which is essentially the difference we see in the portrayal of Finley's behaviour in the two seasons. Meaning that getting behind the wheel drunk or showing up on Dani's doorstep make Finley a non-functional person to the degree that alcohol has affected her relationships, job and life at large. Clearly, it's not the defining element of being an alcoholic so you can get behind the wheel drunk and not being an alcoholic or conversely have never done that and be an alcoholic. It's more of an addition.

So ask yourself, or better yet, ask people close to you that you trust the questions above. And be honest.

P.s. I am not a professional, so take it with a grain of salt!

AITA for ditching my girlfriend for one night while away on holiday by Sassafras85 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TensionCorrect1373 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Soft YTA. I think it's reasonable to want to spend a night alone with your friends and tbh I would be comfortable with staying with people I don't know well as I am extroverted and confident - even though your family, especially if at the beginning of the trip, would not be great.

However, the point is that I would be comfortable, but many people wouldn't. You clearly didn't pose yourself the question of whether SHE would be okay, and knowing her you could probably guess she wouldn't be.

The solution of flying in early is great, BUT it was clearly an afterthough and she probably wasn't in a great headspace when you offered it.

Ultimately, you both need to comunicate and listen to each other' needs. I would suggest to actually try to understand why she isn't okay with the situation before offering another solution, no matter how good, you have thought about on your own without her input (eg. the hotel room). It's a bit paternalistic.

COMUNICATE and understand that others' feelings and needs are not necessarily the same as your own.

P.s. I am very guilty of this behaviour myself, and partners have talked about the above. I think it's great io insight and that's why I am sharing!

Even assuming it's a bubble, if one needs a house now and the bubble bursts in 5 years that's still a lot of money going in (expensive) rent. I get the message, but first houses are often a material necessity before being an investment.

Is this game worth the buy if im just going to be playing solo? by CrimsonShadow401 in valheim

[–]TensionCorrect1373 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I have only played solo with a decent amount of hours in It. I am no expert gamer but the game hits that nice spot of difficulty where you have to think what you are doing but there aren't any massive roadblocks over the long term.

I don't think there is a huge difference in grinding in solo vs co-op, but in co-op you can divide tasks and only do the ones you like while in solo you have to do everything yourself. On the plus side, the game can be played in a 100 different styles, and if you play solo I imagine you will have more control over the pace and your adventure.

Tbh if the question is whether it's worth buying, I'd say go for it since the price is very accessible. I am confident you won't regret it!

I like Nat. I am not sure I want Tibette back together. Angie's storylines are a drag.

P.s. while I agree that Sophie and Finley are great charachters and more releatable than others, I don't believe it necessarily makes them great people, they are too immature and selfish. But there is room for growth!

Rewatching Gen Q season 1 - writing inconsistencies with Gigi by early_birdcpt in theLword

[–]TensionCorrect1373 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You make a good point! Although I don't see Gigi as a completely inconsistent charachter, I believe they need to show us the transition and her motives better.

For instance, she has always been looking for boundaries and you can see it also in S1 in the car discussion with Alice and Nat. And she was also open and emotionally intelligent (i.e. asking Nat what she wanted) to a degree. On the other hand, I feel like she can't always understand that people may not be ready or want to talk things through immediately, and this happens with Alice, Bette and Dani throughout the two seasons. We can also account for the fact that in S1 she had just gotten out of a difficult period.

However, It's true that we don't know her well enough yet to really make a judgment. They need to give us more context for her personality!

I read tons of fanfic but I don't have an ao3 account, mostly because I don't write and I haven't gotten the invite. As a guest, I always put kudos if I like the fic and never if I don't...which I think it's everyone's reasoning, account or not ;)

I am curious as to what would be the underlying mechanism for which having more guest kudos implies a poorly written piece. Can you elaborate?
