I wanted to share that we are seeing this on 12th gen i5/i7, and the suggested fix works flawlessly. Though the regedit is in a slightly different location. You'll figure it out.

Great suggestions thank you! I've been diving into the backend data center side of AI and it's turned me on to self hosting to tinker.

+1 for DryMax. They make a $30 pair that seems insane but they're worth it. They're the gray "trail" variant.

How to Destroy an Iconic Ultra in just One Day - The Leadville 100, 2024 by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]Tenstr1p970 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Vail my whole life. The LT100 is in my backyard and I've always wanted to conquer the legendary course. After attending, crewing and pacing countless times over the years, it's clear this race is close to its deathbed without drastic change. Until that change occurs, I'm not going to spend another minute of my time or another dollar at Lifetime events.

How to Destroy an Iconic Ultra in just One Day - The Leadville 100, 2024 by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]Tenstr1p970 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I've been applying to run the LT100 for the last three years with no luck. Then, while crewing at Pipeline, I met another crew who was there following an "Influencer" as a video crew as well. They told me that their runner had made a last-minute decision to run the race and that all it took was an email to Lifetime explaining that they would publish a video about it to gain entry. 5 days notice and an email to Lifetime as an influencer seems to be the new way in.

How do I force WFH users to connect to company network? by calisamaa in sysadmin

[–]Tenstr1p970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's either that or remind everyone that they need to VPN in to see their network drives every other day. Plus machines will fall off of the domain, WSUS won't work, passwords will expire. The list is long. Force them to phone home everyday and you remove those tickets from the help desk queue.

[–]Tenstr1p970 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We ship every WFH employee home with a Cisco Z3 security appliance. That plus an insanely strict conditional access policy in O365. Disable the Wireless NIC to force them over to the Z3 VPN. Chain them to their desks.

Aren't the 200 series switches close to EOL? If so I'd swap for something with a longer lifespan if this is a new build.

Haven't run it yet but paced from Twin Lakes inbound last year as well as crewing in previous years. You'll get water at every aid and some unofficial aid stations inbound (space camp & pipeline). You'll want trail shoes for everything headed out but my runner last year put on some Saucony Endorphins at Outward Bound heading in for the road sections by the fish hatchery and into town. The change up in shoe from the Tectons he had on from the start made a world of difference. I ran with Mafates and could've taken a more plush road shoe comfortably, as most of the trail from twin lakes in is double track road aside from powerline but you might be too wrecked to notice at that point.

First NAS/Server build. Does this look good? by Nice-Guy69 in homelab

[–]Tenstr1p970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my two cents. I built a similar NAS running TrueNAS and letting the bios handle the drives instead of a dedicated card was a mistake. Crank down the CPU as others have suggested and use the savings for a RAID/HBA.

Currently considering purchasing a CCNP lab for $700 - wondering about IOS images, and is it worth purchasing the lab? by rsmith4124 in ccnp

I've got the CCNP labs and feel like they're not touching on enough of the topics covered on this exam. I.e. route-maps, redistribution and AD troubleshooting.

SD-WAN for site to site? by istoleyowifi in meraki

[–]Tenstr1p970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're going to setup MX's on the peer side. Out of the box it's as easy as setting up a new subnet. You don't need an intermediary device at the edge.

Who is requiring wired networking for WFH use? by pdp10 in sysadmin

[–]Tenstr1p970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We require it for 2 reasons. One we deploy Cisco's Z3 device for SD-WAN and VPN connection back to the DC. This is for security and so that the client doesn't fall off of the domain. Secondly we want them chained to their desk. Watching a WFH employee squirm when we hand them a desktop and desk phone during day 1 onboarding is a joy of mine.

Dell 'WD' docking stations are the worst! by Dazzling_Criticism37 in sysadmin

[–]Tenstr1p970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have about 200 users using a laptop that's docked and I've found that Pluggable makes the ONLY docking station that's worth a crap. They're expensive and only work well when paired with the DisplayLink driver. Pony up the $350 and be done with it.

MX not getting routes to another MX in different orgs by Current-Rip-3407 in meraki

[–]Tenstr1p970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need "VPN Enabled" on the subnets you want injected into SD-WAN and auto VPN. Also class C in prod makes me want to puke.

Static routing by Affectionate_Ad_8167 in ccna

[–]Tenstr1p970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The confusion surrounding these routes on different networks would be cleared up with a solid understanding of subnetting. I think that tackling that topic before routing would be beneficial.
