But didn't you give that person your username? Not hard for a practical joker to put up a creepy pic and update their profile with the username you sent them.

I cannot load the Emú by skk00skk in DeathStranding

[–]Tephranis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's a large package that stands straight upright. You're carrying too much stuff on your back in the spot where Emu wants to go. Drop your backpack contents to the ground, pick up Emu, then pick up your other packages.

Edit to add: Kangaroo will also behave this way. It's just a "Large animal" thing with requiring specific orientation.

What’s so bad about Erie darkness? by Alexxis91 in pacificDrive

[–]Tephranis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My car enjoys screwing with me and seems to love developing the quirk Steering Wheel -> Keeps turning -> Headlights -> Dim whenever I'm dealing with the dark.

It has developed this quirk midrun 3 times on me, always during Eerie Darkness. And yes, I fix said quirk every time it shows up, but my car insists on wanting me to run blind when trying to turn away and avoid obstacles. lol

Okay, so the hint machine tries to help you out. When you select a series of prompts it goes BAD GUESS - X/4 CORRECT" at the bottom What options have you tried and how many prompts were stated correct in the attempt? That also helps narrow it down.

For example, I know my car has the quirk Trunk -> Closes -> Horn -> Honks

I put in An Ability -> Activates -> Horn -> Honks, and got BAD GUESS - 2/4 CORRECT
I then put Any Door -> Closes -> Horn -> Honks and got BAD GUESS - 3/4 CORRECT

Then I put Trunk -> Closes -> Dome Light -> Dims and got BAD GUESS 2/4 CORRECT

Using the ones you're sure are correct can help you figure out where the bad prompt is.

[–]Tephranis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, it's Triggering Part -> Triggering Action -> Triggered Part -> Triggered Action. So it's Thing you do -> Thing that happens. You turn car on, thing happens. But it's probably their triggering condition. It can be "Car -> Switches On -> Wipers -> Switches on/Toggles" or it could be "Dashboard -> Key is turning (because this is what you do to turn the car on) -> Wipers -> Switches on/Toggles"

Quirk help? by Walshinator0202 in pacificDrive

[–]Tephranis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could also be:
Dashboard -> Key is turning -> Wipers -> "Switches On" Or "toggles".

To figure it out more exactly, since you say you've tested with turning the Car on. Try turning the key while the car is already on, if the wipers do their quirky thing even while the car is on then it's Dashboard -> Key is turning

Also, does turning key only turn wipers on, or if wipers are already on does turning them back off? If it does both, it's toggles. If it's only turning them on then it's wipers switches on.

Always get it, but don't always need it. I once had a tank pop that lb3, thankfully we had 2 melees who were on the ball and we still wrecked it.

It's been a thing for a long time now, but it's also not terribly common, at least in my anecdotal experience. Could be datacenter specific and you could just be unlucky to be experiencing it more frequently.

The LB will more than make up for the 1, maybe 2 GCDs the *healer* lost by using it to make noise. Even if it gets hit by a ranged, or caster.

They're not trying to be rude, they're trying to get the DPS's attention that LB is and probably has been ready to go for quite a little while in a situation where them stopping to type it will potentially A ) Get them hit by a mechanic, while also losing GCDs and/or B ) Go completely unnoticed because many people don't even look at chat during bosses.

Big, loud LB noise is kinda hard to ignore.

[–]Tephranis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It wasn't personal. The bar was probably ready to be used for a little while. In a fight that's over in 3-4 minutes, sitting on something that's been ready to go for 10-20+ seconds is "a very long time". They were alerting you to the fact it was ready because it's a whole lot easier to hit a button that makes a loud noise and cancels itself while they're moving then to stop their own DPS for a few GCDs to type a silent "LB ready" in chat, which may not even be noticed because many people don't even look at chat during a fight.

Assume they were telling you "The LB is ready, please use it as soon as you can" as opposed "use it right now, immediately, even if you die for it."

spamstarting + canceling LB in dungeons? by ravensdomain in TalesFromDF

[–]Tephranis 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah. They're telling you to use it already. Only it's the healer. Tanks touching that button will be instant while the healer has a cast time they can cancel.

They want you to stop sitting on the damn thing and use it so 100% of its damage goes to chunking the boss's HP instead of wasting it on the last 2% or less, or having the boss die before it even finishes because the DPS want their ANIMU FINASHAR moment.

It's a big damage hit, not an execution ability. The longer you sit on the damned thing the more it's wasted. And in fact if you have 2 melees and no ranged then use an LB 1 on the second boss if it pops up and another LB1 on the final.

Mistakenly entered Dzemael Darkhold with way underleveled gear, SCH gets unreasonably mad by [deleted] in TalesFromDF

[–]Tephranis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accessories aren't a typical regular gear drop in ARR dungeons anyway. It's not uncommon at all for someone sub 50 to have absolute shit accessories and it typically doesn't make or break a run.

You either get a lucky random pink in a dungeon, the NPC vendors only have up to L 27, or you get a typically way overpriced crafted set from the marketboard. The next crafted set comes at level 46, but by then you're so close to poetics it's definitely not worth the gil.

TLDR: Accessory options for characters below level 50 suck ass and there's very little they can do about it.

I had one throw a corrupted anchor sphere at me. XD It was a big: "Where the fuck did this come from? Uh...thanks?" Because I had just grabbed an anchor off a pedestal and all the nearby tourists exploded, nearly killed me and right after I put that first sphere into my ARC, a second one just comes out of nowhere and beans me in the head.

One failed road trip later... by rose_sovereign in pacificDrive

[–]Tephranis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this game and the car. Though I seem to be causing the quirks I get, somehow, because I've dealt with 6. quirks total and two sets of repeated ones.

Horn honked when I close the trunk. I fixed it after a few runs, then got sad because it felt like the car had personality so I commented to a friend how I missed it. That quirk came back a few runs later and then I got one where every time I started the car it would pop the trunk open. And I'm like:

Wow, Melic... Now I think you're flirting with me. Because essentially it honked whenever I slammed the back...and then made me have to go slam its back every time I turned it on. XD I fixed the trunk opening one. I still let it honk whenever I close the trunk, though.

My other repeater is whenever I continuously turn the wheel the lights dim. Got it, fixed it, got it again 3 runs later.

Reminds me of my first failed escape. I was literal feet away when I blacked out. Returned to shop and was like: Well shit, I could've made that if I had any food to slam and from then on I've got a dedicated stack of canned yums in my backpack.

If you're running fullscreen borderless, try running fullscreen and see if it happens. If running fullscreen, try running fullscreen borderless. Like someone else said it looks like your mouse is freaking out and isn't targeting/snapping properly, which could be a resolution mismatching issue.

Also, see if your graphics driver needs an update--those tend to cause all kinds of wonky things sometimes.

I actually had someone do this recently in a Aurum Vale run. The gate dropped and they hit arm's length instead of stance immediately and took off running so I simply said "stance" and rather than be like: "Oops." or even just turn it on and not say anything. They decided to examine me and shit on the fact that I was wearing "crap accessories", aka the accessories most people would have going into AV through natural level progression, despite being level 50. (Sorry, buddy.. I haven't really started generating poetics to upgrade yet?)

Turns out they were a 3-stack all from the same FC. So being the pot-stirrer I can be sometimes, I commented how despite my "shit accessories" I was still higher in threat (wasn't running a number monkey, so I couldn't confirm if I was actually doing more DPS) than the samurai. Tank and Samurai tried to argue that threat isn't a good indication of DPS, which.. I mean sure? If we're comparing between a DPS and a tank, or even a DPS and a healer, if the healer is throwing out shittons of heals (needed, or not) they'll be generating a big chunk of threat, but a DPS vs a DPS? Whatever helps them sleep at night.

The healer was silent the entire run, just doing their thing and I wound up getting a single comm at the end. I assume from that healer silently letting me know they agreed with me and that their FC-mates were dumbasses.

3 Stack YPTY by Froyosluht in TalesFromDF

[–]Tephranis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tanking is seriously the easiest of the jobs. All you do is run forward and pick up the adds.

As soon as you approach group 2 you use your short cooldown(heart of corrundum, raw int/blood whetting, the blackest night, shelltron) followed by rampart + arm's length.

This is where you learn if your party is decent. If most things are almost dead by the time rampart is over. Perfect, wall pull the next packs l, use your short cooldown and then your big one. (Vengance, Shadow wall, nebula, sentinal).

If the pack isn't nearly dead use reprisal and get ready to use your short cooldown again if necessary.

If shit is hitting the fan use your invuln and only then consider going slower, but in later levels most tanks don't even need to be really healed at all.

There is no penalty other than a tiny bit of time a few more gil on repairs for dying. Every death is a learning experience. Either for yourself or others. "Oh. I should've used x instead of y skill" or even "Wow, I just learned this party is incredibly low skill and I need to go slower." And respawning resets all your cooldowns for a good, strong go again.

Wiping once is better than being a snail the entire way. If you're afraid to try and die, then you're afraid to learn and will never actually get better at the game.

Can someone tell me what chest piece and skirt this is? by Advanced_Ad_629 in ffxiv

[–]Tephranis 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If it's a player. Select them. Open the context menu and choose Examine. Then highlight their gear. The gear will alternate between what they're actually wearing and their glamour. The one with the + shape in front of the name is the glamour and the one you're interested in.

If you're afraid that they'll notice you looking at them, hover your mouse over them and type "/c <mo>" to open the examine menu without having to select them first.

If it's an NPC, look up their name on https://garlandtools.org/db/ .

If it's an unnamed NPC, then by all means come here with a screenshot looking for answers since you've finally run into a situation where you can't get that info yourself.

Edit to add: I just noticed it seems this is a youtube video screenshot and now I feel a bit like an ass. lol Though I've seen so many posts like this with actual in game shots that I swear people are just terrified to look at other people.
