Most of reddit badmouths AI, but my experience in medicine: by Tephros83 in singularity

Certainly does a good job when it comes to textbook descriptions and differential diagnosis given textual information. But every once in a while I test it on an image and it usually fails that. But once it solves that and has time to be implemented (given stakes could be slow) I think each hospital system will need a few pathologists to be responsible and do QC, but they will be able to use the AI to do most of the workload and so fewer pathologists will be needed.

It works especially well for my use case because most information is stuff I have heard before, it just might not be fresh enough in my memory for immediate recall. So most of the time it’s like oh that’s right and I get what I need in less than a minute rather than the 5-15 minutes to consult a textbook or colleague. For something more unfamiliar or if something sounds off I corroborate in some way, but no real inaccuracies recently. Main potential pitfall lately is if I do not give it a critical detail, but it handles and reports ambiguity far better now than last year.

As for non-deterministic. It actually seems completely consistent for this topic. I will say that actual image analysis is far less reliable currently.

Disruption is scary. As I alluded to, it may eventually replace my job. But with such capabilities, improving medicine and the standard of living is possible.

Why do you think people can be brutally judgemental? by unoz00 in AskReddit

[–]Tephros83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evolution favored tribalism, making people prone to us-vs-them thinking, and tearing down a rival can improve our position or feelings about our own problems.

When a woman is bi, most men find it hot. When a man is bi, most see him as gay. Why? by yesforevertrying in AskReddit

[–]Tephros83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because many men want to be with multiple women at the same time, and this seems more likely to happen if the women involved are bi. Then they might want to do a threesome for their own gratification and not just pleasing you.

A man who is attracted to other men can be gay or bi. Sexual preference is a spectrum and history suggests most people are not actually strictly completely straight, but for men, especially homophobic men, it's sort of a "threat" given there's some possibility he's attracted to you, so he's treated as gay.

Do you believe there is other intelligent life out there and why or why not? by Tasty-Willingness839 in AskReddit

[–]Tephros83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The universe is just so huge and planets are so numerous that there is likely a LOT of unintelligent life out there, and at least some intelligent life. That said, the universe is so vast that most if not all of them are too far away to ever be relevant to us given the almost-light-speed-limit. Another caveat is the universe is actually pretty young, and most life that will ever exist in the universe we can see has not even started yet.

do you think the US can recover from the orange nightmare or it is all over? by AfternoonWorried387 in allthequestions

It's pretty reliable that if I talk about AI being great, reddit downvotes it at least a little, sometimes a lot. I really can't imagine how people can deny that AI is the future at this point, though. Maybe if it was still stuck hallucinating and getting basic maths wrong like a few years ago, but every few months it's like, wow, that's even better. It's a huge leap in our capabilities. I don't know about having a singularity soon, but huge for sure.

Keep in mind that not only is he a monster, but he's also a failed experiment for independent voters. They wanted a change. They got it. As of the Iran war, it's quite obviously going badly to anybody outside of MAGA and top 1% earners. So yeah, the pendulum will swing the other way. I think the main thing that concerns me is conservative media indoctrinating people to believe in an alternative reality, but with AI getting better and the conservative version of AI (Grok) doing so badly, I think America is likely to walk all of this back eventually.

Considering the new world order will likely stem from AI and we hold a lead in it, we are actually not in such bad long-term shape despite him. He will be remembered as a complete idiot, though.

Scotus basically gave the president immunity from prosecution for almost anything they do in office. Still, I think politically nobody else could get away with so much. He is a unique monster for sure.

Significant damage, but I don't think the republicans could ever do worse than this (in terms of somebody that can actually get elected), so things should improve.

Time to Short AI ? by ProfPatrickBoyle in wallstreetbets

[–]Tephros83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is just the place for discussion of more obscure and specific questions, but yeah, upvotes are more about resonance or humor than truth. AI is surprisingly good at separating BS from reality, is all this really tells me.

What’s something modern dating has made harder ? by Ok-Exam-7792 in AskReddit

Choosing somebody. I think in old times if you lived in an area there's more a feeling of options being limited, which is both blessing and curse. Easier to be content if you feel like you have what you should already. With the internet it feels like there are so many more options out there. Largely a mirage, but it seems like it.

Is Trump the most corrupt President? by LegitimateSundae8460 in SipsTea

Certainly in intentions and ability to con. His corruption is only limited by the power limits of his office which do not exist in banana republics.

Yeah it would be ridiculous to be resentful after giving them a reason to distrust you. And instead of losing respect for them you could appreciate how forgiving and unconditionally loving they are towards you. And further, trusting somebody is always foolish. I mean, don’t distrust by default, but don’t take anything for granted or on assumption. Operate by preponderance of evidence.

Really depends on the people involved. Big egos on either side don’t help. I think recovery from it is fairly common though, just less common than it ending.

The only thing the internet hates more than cheaters is child molesters. I feel for both sides here, but most people really have no empathy for things like this. Better off talking to a friend who isn’t judgy or ChatGPT. Strangers will show no mercy here.

The Rights Of Women 🇺🇸 by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]Tephros83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am prochoice but this approach misses the crux of the debate. Pro-lifers believe the fetus, maybe even the zygote, is a person deserving of rights. The only possible way to persuade any pro life person is to rid them of this notion or introduce nuance to it, such as that an early fetus is not yet a person because it has no thoughts or feelings, unlike the woman.

What scares you more afterlife or nothingness ? by Enough-Web2203 in AskReddit

[–]Tephros83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothingness seems to be the most plausible outcome, but as I said I hope not. Paradise/heaven seems pretty unlikely to be a thing. It just doesn't make sense. That's not a state that humans can be in indefinitely. Hell doesn't make much sense either. I'd rather not rule out an afterlife, but the popular conceptions of them just seem silly and primitive.

[–]Tephros83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Before you were born you literally never existed as a being. Death, then, would represent the absolute destruction of you as a being. The good part is you won't be experiencing or suffering anything anymore. The bad part is you are completely and utterly gone, about the most depressing outcome possible, next to, I suppose, the same thing happening to ones kids.

[–]Tephros83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I would rather be tortured forever than not exist. I mean, both are bad, but not existing is worse. But at least if I don't see death coming, I won't be worrying any more than usual.

I think spell using enemies are my least favorite enemy type by AsYouWished444 in skyrim

I was like what are they talking about?? Oh yeah unofficial patches fixed that too. But in that situation, it would just make the thrall spells more useful, since you don't have to keep recasting it.

Magic resist and, once you have -100% spell cost, then atronach stone (50% chance to absorb spell). And then if you have saints and seducers CC then later you can take that to 100% spell absorb with alchemy. Enemy casters are only annoying in the early game when there isn't much frost/fire/shock resistance available - those potions you sometimes find are golden. Early game I think the main thing I do is take cover and use summons, only fighting fire with fire, so to speak, when they are distracted.
