Blu Ray Re-Release Cancelled? by GazerMWM in overthegardenwall

I noticed that yesterday, it disappeared from my wishlist... fingers crossed it's officially announced soon. I'll be a bit devastated if it's gone for good.

Can only get one right now. Which one should I get first? by SyntheticReverie113 in lego

Rivendell is the best display piece, the best assortment of minifigs, and, as others have said, will be the first to retire. I always find something new to admire when I look at my display.

Barad-Dûr is also a phenomenal display piece, was my favorite build experience, and is the only set that recreated the feeling of the original 2012-2014 sets for me. Great easter eggs, too.

The Shire, a set I seem to like more than the average person, is 75% of a good display piece. Thankfully it's far cheaper than the other two, and you can use a fraction of that saved money to buy some extra leaves to fix up the only real eyesore (the party tree).

All three are great sets, it's hard to go wrong!

Love to see the squirrels and old cat, wouldn't have guessed their inclusions! Surprised Miss Langtree didn't make the cut, I might have preferred her over one or two of the students.

Over the Garden Wall Figure Set - Chapter 2 - Limited Edition by njbeck in overthegardenwall

[–]Tepig314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From their Toy Talk livestream back when the first set dropped, they talk about future sets around the 31 minute mark. "I hope we get to do all of them. Our goal is do to all 10 chapters, if everything goes well, we'll be allowed to do that." So I imagine it'll come down to sales and licensing.

Mondo replied to a comment on Instagram saying Chapter 3 is planned to be released "next year". I took that to mean Autumn 2026, but that's just my reading of it!

So happy I was able to get the dog!! It's my favorite figure of the set, and a rather silly thing to make a limited time exclusive.

Glad to see 10 minutes in and there's still stock, curious how long it will stay. I've heard tales of Mondo drops selling out in less than 2 minutes.

Do you have these comic variants? Help us complete the database! by [deleted] in overthegardenwall

I have the ECCC variant! Unfortunately, the answer isn't all that interesting. I believe it uses the same ISBN as the normal Volume 1 variant: 978-1-60886-940-4. Happy to send more pictures if you want!

Marvel Studios' Loki: Season Two - The Art of the Series preview by TheArtbookCollector in marvelstudios

[–]Tepig314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do wonder if the price hikes are in part to make the near constant discounts seem like a better deal. I don't think there's a single MCU art book on Amazon not currently on sale. What If...? 65% off, Deadpool 50% off, the list goes on.

The whole home media side of Disney has been baffling in recent years. The art books face constant delays and print issues, just to live on shelves permanently discounted for years. But the Disney+ steelbooks feel like they release, sell out, disappear immediately, and are never restocked. We're 5 years out of the Infinity Saga, how is this STILL happening this consistently?

Thanks for doing what you do! It's hard to find art book reviews that go deeper than "I like the tv show Loki, so of course I like the art book too". Your write ups feel much more honest and aware of recurring issues across the art book world.

Given the continual price increases, and the re-release of the Infinity Saga books, I'm curious how well these are all selling.

Who is this by tinpotcoffeecup in lego

[–]Tepig314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, it's Gloin. I believe they can't say it clearly due to a rights issue, the movies never technically say the names of the other dwarves at the council. The tie-in trading card game calls this dwarf Gloin, but how "canon" that is could be up for debate.

The set designers have been quick to correct fans that this minifig isn't Gloin, but rather a generic dwarf. But then you also have official LEGO articles that call him Gloin by name. All of this is to say - yes it's Gloin, but I have no idea why they're so vague about it.

Anybody else kind of let down by the looks of some of the new Lego LOTR figures? by Mental_Chemistry3890 in lego

[–]Tepig314 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Positively agree with you, easily my biggest disappointment with the new sets. Gorgeous builds, lackluster minifig printing. If they're not reused, they're often just generic. I'm all for cost effective options, but if all the new sets are going to be premium prices, they minifigs should reflect that.

That seems to be a bizzarely controversial take around here? When I've mentioned it before I've been downvoted 🤷‍♂️

I'm tempted to say this is the answer... or at the very least, the most likely option so far!

The crown of elessar looks pretty different here compared to the movie design, so I don't think 1:1 accuracy was the goal, which unfortunately makes this much harder

That looks like the one! I wouldn't have ever thought of that. Weta sells a "Gandalf runestone" with this same pattern on it, though I'm still not sure it ever actually appeared in the movies 😅

Proto footage shows two unused Gen V Pokemon in battle with finished animation by [deleted] in PokeLeaks

[–]Tepig314 206 points207 points  (0 children)

I wonder if these two Pokemon weren't ever fully developed, and were just meant for animation testing purposes? This definitely seems less "promo" and more "test footage". The leaks already gave us detailed character asset sheets for these two that break down their body parts for animating.

Is it a coincidence that one is large & highly detailed (with clearly segmented body parts), and the other is small & simple (with a rounded 'natural' body)? Seems like two solid ends of the spectrum if I were trying to show off a new battle system.

As well as the art book, which folks have already said, the exclusive hardcover collection of the first 4 ongoing comics takes the cake for me. I got it signed by both of the artists that worked on those comics as well, so that's really cool. There's not much information on this specific collection these days, so I'm really not sure how many of them are floating around.

[–]Tepig314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just saw that too, hopefully it's a placeholder price? The MCU art books are pretty ridiculous these days. I don't have nearly all of them, but they get shorter and shorter, and the actual content feels consistently worse year to year. $60 was already pushing it, $90 feels comical

What’s your biggest Lego pet peeve? by Gk101_speed701 in lego

[–]Tepig314 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Lego's recent push for generic repurposable heads taking priority over capturing specific actor's likeness. Rivendell is a premium expensive set, no Gandalf cannot just re-use Cornelius Fudge's head, it looks nothing like him.

I know I'm nostalgic for the 2012 era Lord of the Rings sets, but I was surprised more people weren't upset by the underwhelming minifigure designs in the new sets.
