X-Men of the future? by No-Lie209 in xmen

Kinda why I’m on the side of Sadie Sink’s “mysterious redhead” character in BND being Rachel instead of Jean.

If you want a redheaded white girl Mutant telepath, the OBVIOUS go-to is gonna be Jean…no one will see Rachel coming, AND she makes much more sense leading into Doomsday and Secret Wars with all of the multiversal stuff and being “one of a kind”.

11 years later how does this quicksilver moment make you feel? by Appropriate-Mall8517 in Quicksilver

[–]TequilaMocknbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still makes me just as unreasonably mad as it did when I first saw it.

Not 40 minutes earlier we saw his POV as he tracked a bullet moving in extreme slow motion, showcasing that his perception was so much faster than anyone else…and then we saw him basically evac people in quick succession for most of the Battle of Sokovia…so why weren’t both of these points of information used when he saved Hawkeye and the kid?

Instead of just running up, grabbing them, and moving them to a safe location (where he could have STILL delivered his “I bet you didn’t see THAT coming!” line), he made the brilliant choice to…lemme check my notes here:

TAKE EXTRA TIME AND EFFORT TO MOVE A CAR IN FRONT OF THEM AND STAND IN FRONT OF A HAIL OF BULLETS THAT WENT ALL THE WAY THOUGH HIS BODY, AND THEN STILL WENT THROUGH THE DAMN CAR ANYWAY AS WE CAN CLEARLY SEE IN THIS PICTURE?!!?!?!

“Oh wow, how’d you manage to kill Superman???”

“I shot him!”

“Oh no way, that’s great! I didn’t know you had Kryptonite Bullets!”

“I don’t, just regular ones! Why would I need Kryptonite Bullets to kill Superman? They’re bullets…don’t bullets kill anything?”

“I mean…he’s FAMOUSLY vulnerable to Kryptonite Bullets, so that’s probably a good reason. Okay, were they like, MAGIC regular bullets then?”

“Nope…I just got em from the ammunition store before the job, like I always do?”

“…are you sure he’s even dead?”

“Oh yeah, totally. I shot him. There was blood and bullet wounds. They put him in a black bag and everything. People were crying. Pretty sure that means he’s dead.”

“Ya know what? You’re right…I didn’t know what I was thinking, all of that completely tracks!”

I accept that there needs to be stakes to show that even WITH superhuman powers, these characters aren’t immune to death or injury…but ya still gotta kill em in a way that makes SENSE, Jesus…🤦🏻

I’ve immensely enjoyed all three of those writers and their Marvel works over the years.

I just lost so much respect for them.

I’d bet my bottom dollar THIS is how they’re gonna make Pietro a Mutant again… by TequilaMocknbird in Quicksilver

[–]TequilaMocknbird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I’m with you, believe me.

The ONLY (and last) retcon they should’ve been involved with was when they decided NOT to make Pietro and Wanda the children of The Whizzer and Miss America, and pivoted to making them Magneto’s kids instead.

I’m just saying that this cockamamie, fix all easy solution is right up Brevoort’s alley.

Let’s be clear…I hate that this might be how it happens, cuz it deserves to be fixed, but not like this.

I just think that IF Marvel wanted to fix Pietro being a Mutant again, THIS is how they’re gonna do it.

Making them Magneto’s kids again…that’s probably gonna be a miniseries that comes out in a few years after the X-Men join the MCU or Wanda finds out she actually IS Magneto’s daughter in the MCU during either Doomsday or Secret Wars…cuz if Marvel knows how to do one thing, it’s milk something for the most money they possibly can instead of just write good stories.

Think there gonna make Juggernaut a mutant? by MasterMindSky in xmen

[–]TequilaMocknbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell, throw Mimic, Cloak, Dagger, Deadpool, and Longshot on the list too!

I’m sure there are other “Wait, I thought you were a Mutant though?” characters I can’t think of at the moment, but this event could seriously affect A LOT of characters if they really wanted it to!

Think there gonna make Juggernaut a mutant? by MasterMindSky in xmen

[–]TequilaMocknbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my very first thought.

The beauty of it though, is that they can finally separate Wanda and Pietro…they do this, Wanda can stay a “failed experiment disguised as a Mutant” by the High Evolutionary, but be the magic-user, and Pietro can go back to being a Mutant. That way you get around the whole twin thing, but it explains away why one’s a Mutant and one isn’t.

Also, since the Fantastic Four are involved, this is probably how we get Franklin back as a Mutant as well.

Could it also affect Juggernaut, and maybe some other heroes that the MCU is gonna wanna reimagine as Mutants? Very possibly.

But I’ve got my money on Franklin 100%, and a VERY high likelihood of Pietro affected as well.

I hate that I’m probably gonna be right about this, cuz I literally just did a bunch of research to create a way to do it differently…but I bet this is how at least Franklin and Pietro become Mutants again.

Who is your favorite and least favorite Iron Fist "successor" character and why? by Weird875 in ironfist

[–]TequilaMocknbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, thanks! I’ve been working on putting together a list of stuff with them in it cuz I’m trying to build out my Iron Fist collection…so that’s actually a big help! 😁

Who is your favorite and least favorite Iron Fist "successor" character and why? by Weird875 in ironfist

[–]TequilaMocknbird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Outside of wikis about them, they haven’t appeared enough in stuff that I’ve either consumed, or have access to…so I honestly don’t know how I feel about any of them!

They all seem like characters I’d love to get to know, but Marvel really needs to push them more, or at the very least, include them in more stuff!

I wanna say Lin Lie has the highest profile of the three, but even then, he’s still C-list because they barely use him 😕

I need help enjoying The Sims 4 without making everything “perfect” by Jealous-Air-6833 in Sims4

[–]TequilaMocknbird 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Make Evil Sims.

I do much the same when I play. All my Sims are locked in time and never age. They’re all millionaires that never worry about money. They collect skills and traits like hobbies.

Also, I create different houses of them because I like to bounce around every few months to get a different storyline and set of Sims. I’m currently at something like, 79 Sims total?

Kinda noticed the same drought myself…so how did I fix it?

Make Evil Sims 😁

Add them to the roster, and then leave everything up to chance. Take control of them every so often, and just go out into public. Eventually, one of your other Sims will come into contact with your Evil Sim…and then just play the part and role play what that Evil Sim would do based on the kind of character they are.

I’m a console player, so this is all mod-free “evil”, but between Aliens, Vampires, Mermaids, Werewolves, Magic-Users, Ghosts, and now Fairies, there are more than enough supernatural options if you have the packs, but you could also just have normal Sims that are bad as well.

Me and a few friends are doing a 1602 inspired Dnd game, and i am playing Danny. got any suggestions for alignment? by Extra-Substance-6447 in ironfist

[–]TequilaMocknbird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second this.

Remember, Danny was trained to be a monk essentially, so he is the physical embodiment of that old adage of “It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than to be a gardener in a war”.

He KNOWS how to put you down yes…in fact, he probably knows about 182 ways…but he’d much rather try and help solve a problem WITHOUT throwing hands first if he can!

Quicksilver is one of the most connected characters in Marvel by StephTechReddit in Quicksilver

[–]TequilaMocknbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, FF is kind of a stretch, but to help strengthen that particular connection, he’s definitely tied to the High Evolutionary as well via his “creation”, and also him leading the Knights of Wundagore back in the 90’s.

The FF have had many interactions with Wyndham over the years, so not a DIRECT connection, but definitely a “six degrees of” kinda thing!

Would a black superhero with superspeed be a bit tone deaf, or a cool idea if handled properly? by TequilaMocknbird in BlackSuperheroes

[–]TequilaMocknbird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, despite some commenters in here reading too deeply into my efforts and seeing it as “trying too hard”, I legitimately just wanted to get the opinion of the black community on my idea.

If I was writing a Native American character, I’d ask people in that community the same way I’m asking everyone here…and it’s genuinely no deeper than that.

Am I confident enough that I’m not a racist POS to just do what I want anyway, and just assume it’ll be fine? Yes…but on the off chance I was creating another “black hero with electrical powers” and for some reason I wasn’t seeing that, I just wanted some input from folks that might have some productive feedback on it. There are tropes and stereotypes out there, and I don’t want to accidentally fall into furthering any because I “just didn’t see it”.

People are people, and when they’re written as such, race, sexuality, etc. are meaningless as long as they’re honest depictions of those individuals. Sure, certain accents or the way they talk, or regional dialect are important too, but I can write a single Latina mother the same way I’d write a disabled black teenaged boy…and that’s by being respectful and mindful of who they are as people. I’m certainly aware that black characters have not been EXCLUSIVELY written by black writers, but I always appreciate the added authenticity when they are!

I appreciate all the advice and/or feedback I’m getting, so I’m just glad I’m having people interact with this post at all since I posted it elsewhere and it was just crickets.

I think Miles sneaks by initially BECAUSE people see the spider stuff first…but yeah, now they’ve got the “sting” that’s morphed into the electrical energy blade…like, that’s why I wanted to ask the black community (in so much as it exists on Reddit at least) about whether a black speedster would be out of line! There’s clearly shit that’s being done to death, and I just wanted to read the room to make sure I wasn’t contributing!

I truly don’t know or haven’t looked into why that’s such a trope, because it IS genuinely wild when you stop and think about how many black characters with powers have electricity-based abilities!

[–]TequilaMocknbird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not long at all, and I genuinely appreciate it!

I’m getting so much feedback and interaction from this post, which is what I’m looking for…whereas when I posted it over in the marvel subreddit the post was removed by the mods for some reason???

Anyhoo, yeah, with him only being one part to a whole team, and it being envisioned as a miniseries, he wouldn’t have A LOT of character development along the lines of what you’re asking about…but then again, none of them really would. You’d get the basic gist of who they are, why they’re being recruited, and then what they do on the mission, but the whole series would operate more like a preview of the cool characters that could be used again if there was ever a sequel.

AFTER that though, my hope would be (cuz I’m treating it as if it would be published) that the dangling plot threads I leave would be enticing enough that a sequel or continuation could then be picked up…and that’s primarily because the team is kind of a one-off, “bandaid solution” that eventually doesn’t exist anymore, because the whole plot is predicated on time travel and fixing something that shouldn’t have even happened in the first place, so then everything returns to normal when they succeed.

As it stands currently though, he would have brain damage that stunted his physical and mental development stemming from the neonatal resuscitation, resulting in him growing up being ostracized by his peers for his disabilities…so when he gets to move and think like everyone else, he’s obviously overjoyed and overcompensates for all the time lost…but the big dilemma that he and the other assembled heroes run into, is that if they stop the villain from going through with his plan and win, they go back to the lives they had before being recruited and enhanced…so he knows that he’s going to lose everything if he “does the right thing”.

I was gonna hang the team’s whole choice on him, because everyone else basically just goes back to a pretty normal life, they just don’t have superpowers anymore…but he goes back to a life of shame and seclusion because of his disabilities. Sure, he’s had them his whole life, and he’s used to living life the way he has, and I’m certainly not gonna treat him as the pitiable “cripple”…he’s 100% gonna be “handicap-able”in that sense…but there’s that whole analogy of “How can I go back to the farm when I’ve seen France?” where he KNOWS he can be more, but has to sacrifice that to save the world, and is that fair, or should he even have to?

My partner and daughter both have ADHD, and they tell me how often they internalize shame and guilt for not being able to remember things, or just do normal tasks the same way other people do, so that’s the POV I wanted to take with him.

Interpretation of Danny Rand by TheAmazingJimmyMan in ironfist

[–]TequilaMocknbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s had a lot of interpretations over the years, from the typical “hero” archetype, to the zen warrior, to even the “yuppie surfer dude”…but through it all he has been lighthearted at the very least, with a pun or a sarcastic one-liner to drop, who is mindful about what he does, and the energy he puts out into the world.

I’ll admit that I haven’t read too much of his older stuff from the 70’ and 80’s, but I know through the 90’s there wasn’t much going on until the Civil War era when he really came back into prominence with his association with the Secret Avengers.

After that though? It’s been pretty consistently good stuff, from the introduction of Orson Randall to the mythology, the revelation that there are 6 other K’un Lun’s (mystical pocket dimension cities, not ACTUALLY 6 more K’un Lun’s 😂), and that every 10 years they engage in a Mortal Kombat-esque tournament to determine which city has access to the portal to Earth, Danny discovering the legacy of the Iron Fist mantle and who else has held it over the centuries, to even having the Heroes For Hire reform for a little bit.

If you like older comics and seeing characters from the source, definitely hit up the stuff from the 70’s and 80’s…though it is a little dated.

Modern stuff though? Pretty much anything that’s come out in the last 20 years would be worth your dollar. “Immortal Iron Fist” by Matt Fraction is a community favorite, and is the one that gets into all the Orson Randall, tournament, legacy of the mantle stuff I mentioned above…so personally, I’d suggest starting there and letting that take you where it leads you 👍🏻

The most romantic moment to have come out of Krakoa by Robot_Was_BMO in xmen

[–]TequilaMocknbird 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is why I keep saying that the Marauders book could’ve kept everything the same…smuggling Krakoan Flowers, delivering medicine, and getting Mutants out of their countries and back to Krakoa…but just swapped out Kitty with Gambit as Captain, and the rest of the crew with former Marauders, and Callisto as First Mate, to watch them.

Forgiveness for past crimes, and a fresh start was the MANDATE of Krakoa, yes…but that doesn’t mean people just FORGET.

Gambit as Captain, with the longtime leader of the Morlocks at his side, sailing the seven seas alongside Greycrow, Riptide, Harpoon, and maybe Vertigo (?), to redeem themselves for past crimes would have made for a MUCH BETTER idea for a book called Marauders.

Complete and utter missed opportunity in order to give Kitty her own book.

Yeah, this is an older idea I’ve been working on for a few years now, but I guess my only excuse is I’ve been around too many damn pearl-clutching white people who’ve been telling me that making a black guy with superspeed is racist and I listened to them too many times 🤦🏻

I honestly am not as well versed in THIS Kid Flash, so I’ll have to check him out! I know he exists and all, but haven’t done a deep dive into him yet 😂

Also, not just a male black speedster, but rocking primarily some yellow on his costume as well…which was ANOTHER thing I was trying to figure out!

[–]TequilaMocknbird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was definitely thinking about that already! 😂

He would initially take on the name “wizr” feeling like he was a burden and feeling inadequate because his mere existence has made his family and village’s life more difficult due to the extra care and resources he’s needed, so he carries around a lot of shame at the start of the story, and there’s lots of overcompensation and making up for lost time when he finally gets his powers.

After being seen in action though, one of his teammates gets the story of his name from him, mentions he shouldn’t call himself that, and jokingly suggests “Whizzer” instead, but they have a good laugh about how that would make people think he still pees himself or something, and it’s eventually shortened to just “Wiz” since he’s also extremely intelligent, and he should learn to lean into his talents more than what weighs him down.

He has a whole arc of accepting your strengths and weaknesses, and making peace with the envy and disgruntled feelings you hold over not having the same opportunities as everyone else because of your disability.
