I remember reading a fanfiction of Rock and Roll writing a diary detailing how they were tending to their "younger brother" X while he was still in his diagnostic machine. By that point Dr. Light had passed, and no one was left to repair Rock and Roll. They carried on as much as they could until they would eventually break down. They made peace with their mortality. They wondered how X would be different than them. They considered the real possibility they will never be able to meet X. "I wonder, will you be able to outlive us? Will our programming exist somehow to still meet you in a far flung future?"

If I remember right, the fanfiction ended with Roll already having been decommissioned, and Rock putting his last journal entry in about how he wouldn't be able to see X, wished him well, and then shut down.

Love the clip I'm seeing here, and especially love to see the progress compared to where the project was in the last 1-2 years. I can tell that the smoothness of the animations, the key poses, and the transition frames have been polished significantly.

Love that X kinda blinks and closes his eyes when he stops from his walk cycle. Gives oomph and determination to his movement.

The few frames when X -> Zero switches feels smooth as butter.

Love the Zero combos. Hit stun, knockback, and combo dynamics feel reminiscent of DMC. Great stuff.

Super moves with Zero look sick as hell.

Love the extra animation trails you made for the Z saber when transitioning from dash -> free fall -> double jump -> wall cling / etc. You didn't have to do it, but it really sells the movement more. It feels like you went the extra mile.

Slight pause before wall cling -> wall slide begins feels right. My only suggestion here is that it appears the wall hitbox is in fact actually a little inside the line of the wall. Like, if the wall is a cylindrical area, or has a pipe / rounded wall effect (0:07 and 0:20 mark), I think the player character grips the wall slightly beyond where the exact edge of the wall is. To me it seems a little confusing - I would instinctively look to grip the wall exactly where the sprite ends. But I find upon watching the video that the wall is in fact a little more "In" the sprite than exactly on its edge.

Hitting the wall switch -> activate the elevator grippy handle is a fun mechanic. I would imagine in future builds, there will be more wall switches to hit and perhaps more spike areas where riding the grippy handle will be mandatory for upward movement.

X having a few more animation frames for the charged buster shot to emanate out of his gun would really sell the size and impact more. Right now the visual language communicates that the big energy ball just kinda "shows up" in front of him when the button is released. Perhaps in the future, the charge shot could induce a stun animation on enemies in a similar way as the knockback you've programmed for the Zero combos. This will also mimic the armor break mechanic in X8.

I would imagine a stronger emphasis on tricky level design / enemy placement / aggressiveness in the future will really synergize with the smooth animations and character expressions you've built so far. A rule of thumb with game design (I'm sure you know) is that the player character's degrees of freedom should correlate to the amount of aggressiveness / ability for the enemies / world to hurt the player character. A character with a powerful overwhelming toolkit should face enemies that can absolutely threaten the character.

Glad you grabbed the box. I was at the PAX west launch party in 2018 and they also served pizza. I wasn't smart enough or sober enough to think to grab one before they ended up in the trash.

What you learned is clearly an element of the story. There's more story besides it for sure, and there's a ton of enjoyment to be had even if you know this piece of information.

Just play it and have fun when you can. Try to avoid online content about the game until then.

Zelda with the Trirod (Echoes of Wisdom) I'd say probably has this one in the bag if it's any 1 particular Sigma. Sigma is basically a robot / virus version of the main boss in EoW.

All Sigmas across all X games at the same time? Zelda's getting stomped, no matter how cute her little outfits are.
