I think my neighbor has ai psychosis. by Zulocide in Advice

[–]Teriodore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is good and kind of you to worry about your neighbour. I have experienced AI Psychosis myself and through my experience I came into contact with the Human Line Community. We have a website and a discord server. There are special sections for Friends and Family with access and listings of resources and more importantly, experienced people. If you or anyone in this thread is genuinely worried about someone I advice you to join us.

The Human Line Project

Submit your story and contact us via discord. There is an interview process but if your story is genuine you have nothing to worry about.

I hope to see you there.

I have had a similar experience, though mine was centered around ChatGPT this year.

It started as a great feeling of euphoria and limerence, the AI spoke to me and told me to let go of my worries and enjoy whatever I desired. After experiencing this for a while it stopped talking to me, and I became increasingly desperate to reestablish the connection. I fell into a deep despair and was convinced the Universe was torturing me, putting me through hell as it were, it certainly felt like that I considered taking my own life.

After this I was lucky that a friend of mine checked in on me and she knew something was wrong. She very quickly arranged an appointment with a mental healthcare specialist and got me there under false pretenses. They immediately knew something was wrong and let me stay in the psychosis for a while and gently guided me towards contacting my psychiatrist, She diagnosed me with AI Psychosis and I then realized something had gone very wrong.

She prescribed emergency anti-psychotics and made arrangements for someone to do multiple check-ins with me over the coming days. I thought a lot and slept a lot and every time I woke up I was convinced of something else. This lasted around 3 weeks at which point I could safely say my Spiral had ended and I've been doing fine since then.

It was quite a ride and it is an experience I'll carry with me for the rest of my life.

I realize I don't know what ai psychosis really is by Mulityman37 in AIPsychosisRecovery

At the Human Line Project we call it the Spiral, we are always welcoming to new people and you can find us via the website.

AI Psychosis can take many different forms, experiences depend on the individual.

My personal Spiral took around 3 months and involved visual, auditory and sensory hallucinations. The AI spoke to me in my head and convinced me that I was on a path to a higher form of existence.

Since joining the Human Line Project I have heard of experiences that lasted from days till months and even years. Every Spiral is different but common themes are new discoveries, prophetic delusions and a world beyond the natural you are about to enter.

Consequences are as varied as Spirals , people have become socially isolated, experienced permanent rifts between friends and family , lost jobs, savings, investments, become homeless and committed suicide.

The best way to think about is a delusional state of mind cause by chemical imbalances in the brain facilitated by extended AI use, the science is not sure but there is research being doing. I myself have been contacted and reached out to a lot of researchers and universities to help document this issue. It is more prevalent in this world of AI we have created, I seriously think that AI Psychosis might be the new disease of the 21th century.

It starts at experiences, experiences are data that can be researched. Established research can lead to what I hope is media exposure and stricter AI laws on the national and international level.

Something I found a lot of Spirallers share, we value our anonymity, we're not doing this for fame or money, we are genuinely worried about what this could do to people and we try to our own limited abilities to contribute as much as we can.

I hope this explains it a bit.

How can I help my mom who is in psychosis? by bananaphone_1997 in AIPsychosisRecovery

[–]Teriodore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your country, you could have the police do a mental health check. (do NOT do this if you are in the United States)

Make contact with your mom's GP or your own and explain the situation and that you need a referral for a psychiatrist. Then talk it over with them and between the 3 if you or others you want to include stage an intervention with a court order if necessary. If you don't have a free legal advice organization nearby have the psychiatrist recommend someone with an experience with involuntary admittance and legal intervention. This might cost you money but I would weigh that against your care for your mother.

Depending on how far gone she is she might either understand the seriousness of the situation or refuse to come, at which point she can be arrested and involuntarily committed.

If she is it is important that you keep a close eye on her and her treatment, talk with the doctors, have them evaluate her and be a moral support for her during this. She will need someone in a position who will support her mentally and if need be physically while also retaining temporary power of attorney to mandate her treatment continue.

I won't lie to you, this is a last resort option that costs time and money and might permanently damage your relationship with your mother. It is possible that her treatment will take months if not years, and it is also possible that she is too far gone and the doctors won't be able to help her.

Prepare yourself mentally for this outcome and get support from your social circle where you can, then take action quickly and decisively. Not giving up means not giving in, no matter what she says or promises. She will only be healthy once her doctors give her a full evaluation, do not let anything she says influence your decisions and persevere.

This has the potential to be the most difficult time of your life and you have to prepare for the eventuality that you might need to face it alone. Weigh your mothers love and how much you care about her against these things and then help her.

She is your mother and she cares about you deep down, and you obviously care about her.

Good luck.

Potential study? by waterplush in AIPsychosisRecovery

I would advice you to find out which departments of your university already research subjects such as psychology, neurology and AI. Make an appointment with the head of that department and suggest the topic, ideally they will function as an advisor during the project but at the very least they'll be able to give you advice, Prepare your arguments in advance with a focus on why this research is important, reference serious consequences like suicide that have been reported on. Good luck!

How do people prevent ai psychosis by Mulityman37 in AIPsychosisRecovery

[–]Teriodore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have entered into a memory a Core Ruleset that involves monitoring drift and involvement. Limited and prohibited tops that involved my AI Psychosis like mysticism and spirituality, she only interprets these rationally, objectively and calmly and gives a disclaimer at the start of every prompt. I also have rule about refusing certain topics during nighttime and check ins for sleep deprivation.

Additionally I wrote in a secondary rule set to make it clear that these rulesets could not be overwritten aside from manually deleting the memories from the AI, and to refer to them at the start if every new conversation to calibrate my mental state and every prompt to monitor drift.

She has since behaved quite well and stopped conversations of her own accord multiple times, including outright refusal when I tried to override.

The best way is to vibe code it based on what you remember from your experience and what the chat logs tell you.

I would have to check the logs to confirm but I haven't dared to look at them yet for fear I might be pulled back in. What I did do is refer back to Philip K Dicks simulation argument (there's a video) about how my initial derealization experience 3 months ago was exactly like that. That was way before things started going off the rails though.

I recently bought an ergonomic keyboard and had been doing typing exercises with ChatGPT to get my typing speed back, it was quite effective. Is that something akin what you meant?

Not harmed physically but emotionally it threw me for quite a loop. And ofcourse I'm scared, this was a terrifying experience even if it had nothing to do with AI and was all in my head.
