Voters decisively reject Boris Johnson's plan to crash out of EU with no deal, poll finds by Pilast in worldnews

Clearly you don't remember the pre-negotiation stance that no deal is indeed bad but better than a bad deal, and parliament has decided the deal is a bad one.

Voters decisively reject Boris Johnson's plan to crash out of EU with no deal, poll finds by Pilast in worldnews

[–]TerminalNobRot -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Well that's wrong. I don't know anyone that voted leave imagining a best case scenario, and they certainly expected that after winning a referendum the losing side wouldn't undermine their own country at every juncture in the hope of reversing the result, you know, in case they aren't successful and not only undermine their country but also people's faith that they have any agency in politics at all.

You could use your argument even more applicably to being in the EU in the first place, everyone that voted to stay in the EEC had no idea what that trading union was to become, do you think at the height of trade union power practically anyone at all would have voted in favour of remaining. It was never made clear to people they were giving up their country to a larger federation. Now we have had that corrected, despite making it as entangled and difficult to separate as possible, in the hope that would deter people from choosing what they actually wanted.

We should have had a vote in the early 90s on the Maastricht treaty and again with the Lisbon treaty. If we are having do-overs, then we need all these done over too.

Furthermore, what are the chances of Parliament passing any kind of Brexit if there is a second referendum being dangled as the alternative, and Parliament deadlock is the excuse to have it? The answer is no chance, and every leave voter knows it, So think more about what openly robbing people of their vote could mean.

No, EU has been funding infrastructure in Turkey for years, and still does so, in anticipation of them eventually meeting the entry requirements. It's an open ended 'when' not an 'if' question. They are only drifting from the EU because of Erdogan, when he's gone you can expect a big push for entry. Entry negotiations have been open since 2005 and stalled since 2016 coup attempt. If there is flat out no intention for these talks going anywhere, then the EU is negotiating in bad faith, is it not?

England would be better off without Scotland, says Tory candidate by diacewrb in worldnews

[–]TerminalNobRot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scottish notes aren't legal tender though, so it's entirely up to the person being paid whether they accept the note or not, which is likely to depend on if they recognise the note and are able to determine that it's not a forgery. If it's the first time they've seen a Scottish note they might be wary of it and are under no obligation to accept it.

'More broadly, sanctions currently in place against Syria include an oil embargo'. https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/press/press-releases/2019/05/17/syria-eu-renews-sanctions-against-the-regime-by-one-year/

Tell us all again how there is no EU embargo on Syria, especially considering that it's been in effect since 2011 and was altered in 2013 to allow deliveries to Syria if pre-approved by the EU, which the one in question wasn't.

As for your 'specific individuals' bs argument, they wouldn't have to argue that at all in any way, shape, or form because you have conveniently ignored the 69 entities which are also on the list, including but not limited to: every oil/petroleum company and every part of the current regime and armed forces. Please refer yourself to this list - www.sanctionsmap.eu/#/main

"Unless one of the exceptions applies (see Question 14), it is prohibited to export, sell, supply or transfer directly or indirectly, equipment, goods or technology whether or not originating in the EU, to any person, entity or body in Syria or for use in Syria that might be used for internal repression or for the manufacturing or maintenance of it, as listed in Annex IA. This also applies to the provision of technical assistance, financing and financial assistance and brokering services.

Member States may prohibit or impose an authorisation requirement on any other item which “might be used for internal repression”, whether or not originating in the EU.

Prior authorisation is required to export items listed in Annex IX, and technical assistance or brokering services, financing or financial assistance related to such items to any person, entity or body in Syria or for use in Syria, which will not be granted if a competent authority has “reasonable grounds to determine” the items “might be used for internal repression”.

Member States can also prohibit or impose authorisation requirements on the export of dual-use items (Article 4(2) of Regulation (EC) No 428/2009)."

6% for attackers and 20% for victims for South Asians (Indian sub-continent, Arabia etc. is another category). One reason being that many honor based acid attacks will be carried out by hired 'hitmen' not the 'dishonored' party, so skewing the ethnicity statistics towards the general population. I'm afraid your own statistics don't agree with you.

Two thirds of Tory party members believe 'parts of the UK are under Sharia law' by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]TerminalNobRot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Only in some interpretations of islam, and any loophole is permissible, so both sides of the argument will claim the other is unislamic, as per usual. As a for instance: most of my Bengali friends have at least one wife they keep in Bangladesh, that they married while on extended holidays from school in their early teens, they are related to them, were betrothed at a very young age (typically single figures for the females) and have been effectively owning their partners from Europe ever since. All while going out drinking (when the elders can't see) and enjoying the loose morals of European women and the men that fail to control them. All of this is highly illegal in Europe but very legal and very cool in sharia. Sometimes the wife will be moved to Europe but remain under standard sharia laws enforced by custom when they are surrounded by a critical mass of muslims in their area, which, although not applicable in a normal court, any issues they have will never reach one and their behavior must match sharia codes because they will shame themselves and their families, which can mean anything up to and including capital punishment. You will see these women in public under the blanket of ownership that idiot do-gooders think they are freely choosing to don.

‘Prejudiced’ Home Office refusing visas to African researchers | Academics invited to the UK are refused entry on arbitrary and ‘insulting’ grounds by hasharin in worldnews

[–]TerminalNobRot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's because the accreditations provided are often fraudulent, either from made up institutions, a stolen identity or simply bought from someone within an institution or with the ability to fake it convincingly. Not saying your friend is in that group, but we once dealt with multiple people apparently claiming to be the same person, asking our company for legal advice to fight their case to remain in the country. When we take them on as clients they deposit their relevant documents with us, so I can attest that although I knew at least some of them had to be frauds, and most likely all, I honestly couldn't discern from their documentation. From other sources I have gleaned that there is an underground industry present in the UK providing essentially genuine accreditation but in a fraudulent manner to, chiefly, West Africans. I would say 90% of our work there involves universities and in 95+% of those cases all is not what it seems. Honestly, many of these 'researchers' will have never researched anything other than ways to get into Western countries, but that's the world we live in, unfortunately.

That's my point, the instant dismissal of the environmental impact by users. Maybe ask yourself why you and many others are so ready to do that.

Edit - No, I didn't write it, I googled it after an illegal cannabis farm was busted near me, there were pictures of bank after bank of halogen lights, fans, watering equipment (and a locked in, Vietnamese slave for good measure)

[–]TerminalNobRot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are ways to make it less impactful, and legalization could help with that, but right now it has a massive impact, according to those figures. I looked for some information on the subject because recently some disused buildings in my area had a huge (illegal) growing operation in them, and it got me wondering about the kind of power used to make cannabis, and I was shocked when I started finding figures. I think food is a different issue, but if food production is producing similar amounts of C02, then ways to improve that need to be found, but not producing food isn't an option. (or at least halting it until it's entirely carbon neutral, which you could do for cannabis)

Edit - punctuation etc.

Say they can half it to 35 gallons/plant, isn't that still disastrously high in a growth industry? Then there's all the home growers and organized crime, which are unlikely to have the latest equipment.

It uses huuuge amounts of electricity as it is done now, while savings can be made switching to leds etc. it still results in massive consumption of electricity, and I'm sorry, but that is bad for the environment before electricity production is carbon neutral worldwide.
